line up without a monk and exo is it bad?

Nephilim26Nephilim26 Member Posts: 118

most  of us have the mercs monk and exo... but without having them you think you can win on div 1?... or in the FL?

and some says having them both is a coward thing to do?

for you guys is that true?..

In my opinion a monk is essential.  Since the melee nerf a few weeks ago most builds are going AoE so its helpful to holyguard from time to time.  The stun builds still exist so awaken is great for waking your mercs up.

The Exo however isn't great.  With the 25 second timer its hard to even use mana seal and its basic attack won't hurt.  However it can make a nice depending on your formation.

monk is essential, especially in PvPs. but believe it or not, I had seen people having two monks in their line-ups. is this crazy or what? lolz.

Duo monk builds are used to stop stuns and holy guard the front row to protect from ice ridge/ freezing axe.  Good for players that don't spam scrolls.

those mercs are really reliable and effective.. specially on my build.. im a stun + aoe build.. and with that mercs around, battles gets really tough on FL.. its like 50% of my effectiveness is off already..

me also have monks and two of them in my line up but i'm thinking to take away the other one... and take a witch for replacement..cause 1 is enough but having them both really gives my main great protection

and exo also for me is one of the best support characters because of it's skills..

but having them both makes me think that it is too much! for supporting characters...

monk and exo are realy realy nice....

but now some players stop to use monk and just use lots of scrolls (awake + purification) for avoid stun / magic effects... with this scrolls you can "more one slot" for merc... becouse you will avoid stuns/magics....

Coward things? just becouse they didnt have... they want win without monk and exo... and if they lose becouse you can awake + hg... and with exo use mana seal they are just retard for say it... lots of ppls have they on the team, and i recommend they are amazing.... gl

i have both an exo and monk in party and i say both are essential during pvps...

monks help to revive characters being stunned while exos stops magic users from using magic (more effective than an archer imo in pvp)

ive seen players not using exo and monk in the battle.. may be they want a build that is brutal in attacks... ahehehe... but in my build i have a monk but i don't have a exo... ahahaha... ^_^ i think monk is the best support mercenary... ^_^

Yeah, but as mentioned, once you get to the higher levels of FL, it's actually viable to use several purification scrolls per match (which get rid of stun and freezing and I guess spell effects), since the winnings will pay for them. So you see people doing that, dumping the monk.

u cant really live with out both at higher lvls in pvp.

    Exo easily can replace swordman

and monk can save ur ass alot. though having 2 shaman is probably nice too.. i never tried though but im thinking of doing it for dual noble sacrifice :)

scrolls can be knocked down easily anyways so definately get a monk

yeah i think having them both really make your line ups powerful

so it is bad not to have them both.. and it is not a cowrad thing thing to have monks and exo...

i havent experience the exo but having no monk in your line up is really bad this will be the guardian of you main character and helps toy awaken your mercenaries from stun and it will help you to guard them by the use of the holy guard

  • trapezoniantrapezonian Member Posts: 124

I line up without exo can be feasible but a line up without a monk is really super bad. You won't survive without holy guard and awakening in pvp.

  • Nephilim26Nephilim26 Member Posts: 118

but as they said it has a scroll that can do the monks job...

but for me those mercs will stay on my line upm for sure...

hey guys! i just finish the exo quest... i think exo is good tactics for the free league.. ^^,

  • BootynakaBootynaka Member UncommonPosts: 66

Monk is still needed for holy guard. yes awakening and purification scrolls are used but it can be countered. holy guard helps with seal and aoe. Since Aoe build is the way to go at higher rank right now. Monk is still used because of holy guard and instand Awakening. I have not yet seen monkless build at div 3 and up.

As for Exo.. exo is versitile though they are the first to be targetted at fl along with the monk. I dont really use his normal attack on FL because its better to use him for Seal. typically u put exo on the back line and switch to front if needed. but definatelly u dont want him to die quick. Max out speedcast.. its awesome

that is not crazy at all, and it even is a new tendency, ive seen fights on FL with ver 4 monks

  • darthfleshdarthflesh Member UncommonPosts: 6

monk is essential, and even more than essential if your main is squishy, provides heal over turns, and armor as well

exo is good as well, you just have to know how to play it correctly, for instance, the worst idea you can have is putting the exo in the front line as def, they have very low inherent def, as bad as putting your viking up front.

when i enter FL, if i happen to see any of those 2 in front line, they are my main target

I don't see monk in every build, and same for exo (including in div1)

And have seen a few (including my own) without either.  There are ways to get by without using either, however they require a different play style than one may expect.....

If you don't have either, my suggestions (which I have yet to fully implement myself):

    -have minimal staff mercs.

-esp. in the beginning of battle, Use skills that focus more on doing outright damage or skill effects that can't be  erased by holy guard (such as lightning strike) rather than hexes/freezing, since you can't prevent them from being erased.

-keep an archer or other collection of mercs that can silence/stun back row (assuming monk is there), especially late in the battle

-attack in columns, spreading damage vertically or focus fire, rather than across rows since healing will destroy your progress

exo cannot easily replace a swordsman - swordsman has many benefits that exo does not - better defense/front-line tank, hex, and flame sword

that's true, but the exo can really be useful in pvp or in a freeleague

cause some of the build are AoE..

exo can destroy the AoE tactics..

by stoping them to cast spell...

in my opinion line up without exo is fine but it is depends on you're startegy. But line up without a monk is another story, you can't win to any competion if you dont have a monk on you're party.

  • next_gennext_gen Member Posts: 11

its very difficult to make a pvp with other palyer if you dont have a monk. so dont forget to add some monk in you're line ups....

exo is good for deffence to and it has the ability to mana seal and monk is good for support.

i had a battle once with a ver intriguing line up. he has an exo, 2 monks, 5 shamans and i can't remeber the last merc. anyway, i wasn't able to kill it because i have an AOE built formation which is pretty much ineffective in battling two monks. argh. monks and exo are essential to anyone's line up though it is really up to us, what are we going to use. i just suggest that you guys should have a monk with the passive of shield of protection. It's pretty effective :D

  • BootynakaBootynaka Member UncommonPosts: 66

From when u get ur exo he can tank fine, until u get something to replace one of ur tank with ie. LK Spartan pirate. yes Swordsman cant be replace by exo fully.  Now a days magic damage is alot better than physical damage so alot more people using staff build.

Tank formations right now are normally like this LK, Nviking, BT  thats most common  LK for lightslash, Nviking for ridge and BT for Summon, Swords has really nothing to offer, breakdown maybe but thats not that much damage in FL.

as for monks yes ive seen no monk builds but havent yet in DIV 1, and if you are a tank, monks protection can be almost replaced by prophet. but awaken cant be replaced esp if u used up 5 scrolls on fl already.

Back to Exo, Exo is definately the best way to go right now to stop aoe builds.
