Trying to read here and there and it appears the game released? Can't find it online to buy @ amazon or gamespot. So maybe it is only open beta and I am missing something?
Would like to give it a little try. I know the reviews seem 'mixed' to say the least but would like to give it a go.

Yeah I am confused about this as well. Apparently the game has been released but only in a limited number of copies or some crap like that.

Darkfall can only be bought from AV and only when they release copies to be bought, right now they are 'sold out'. You need to make an account with them, and when they allow people to buy it again you need to be very quick to buy the limited copies they are selling. There are no boxed copies available, so you need to download the game. There is only 1 server so they probally wont sell much more until they have the capability of opening more servers
You need to buy the game online through the website. head to the darkfall online main site for instructions and good luck

Oh kayyyyyyy. This 'no boxed bopies' may be the 'way of the future' but I don't like it. Sure you can call me a nerd but I like my row of boxes and don't want a download. I want my CDs/DVDs so while I was excited I hope they release a retail sale.
I still have all the original Ultima Online boxes and packages, EQ, old games live Lands of Lore and Civilization 2 and such. Why get rid of them?
*edit*
And this sounds terrible.

To be clear this is an indi group (with huge mouths, but that's a different story), Download distribution was the most possible avenue, given that boxes, art, and shipping ETC..is out of their reach.

Actually, beta is way optimistic.
I would say pre alpha, to be certain...
One question pops in my mind: Since they weren't ready to publish obviously, why did they do it? They were SO greedy to undermine their own creation? I strongly believe all this is just a large scam, and I fear the day they will finally release their online sales.

They could not miss another deadline, like the 5 before it. Especialy after talking so much crap, even right here on this site.

@OP:
The day they allowed the first PAYING subscriber on the server, they released. Limited release, controlled release, however they want to spin it, it's released.
So yes, the game is out. The age of paying for alpha/beta has truly begun.
So the consensus is wait a little bit and let some others pay to find all the bugs?
Reading some of the reviews it sounds like it could be promising but the bugs/glitches/server issues are a real hampering and some things need to be ironed out. It also sounds like nothing is balanced and you are almost forced into choosing certain skills/weapons/etc because they are clearly 'the best'.
Very upset that this turned into this steamy pile... for now.
So I love UO(it really is the best MMORPG ever). I enjoyed EQ1 and 2. WoW was good for a little while. I take that back. It was GREAT but didn't keep me addicted like UO(YEARS of playing... from 1997 through the 2000s). So what is next? Warhammer was even less gripping than WoW. I played that for a VERY short time. Pirates of the Burning Sea in all the possibilities and chance for greatness was a flop... RPG trading game?
So ummmm what's next?

There is no problem there.. It's just a number: 5, 6, 7... who cares? As long as its not years its fine. Fanatics like these following this scammer can endure anything...
His power is not that he created a revolutionary game or anything. His power is the possibility that the way things are right now, he can -anytime- choose when to orchestrate his last large scoop and exit the scene with grace, because this is where we are heading imo
A) Waitfor the next F5 lottery and buy the game then...........if you're worthy enough (a fanbot phrase)
B)Wait some time 3-6 months and then buy the game when (hopefully) things will be better
C) Wait for Mortal Online, Fallen Earth, Earthrise (just to name some) to release and hope they live up to their promises and do things right
Iiii-iiiiiit's.... me!!! *Hooray*
Any of those sandbox style? UO-esq?

It has been years. Years in between. This game started development in 2001. Has had 4 beta announcements, and an equal amount of "About to go live", on top of guild closed beta invites that were never honored and statements from as far back as 2003 about how the game is ready to go live, is feature complete, completely tested, and more stable than any other MMO.

So far they're either entering beta phase or in development and the features they promise are leading pretty much there but would recomend you to go their sites and judge by yourself if they suit your needs

The website says it is still in beta, and it is pretty much paid beta atm.
