A march by protesters up MacArthur Boulevard honors Lovelle Mixon, the parolee who killed four police officers. (Brant Ward / The Chronicle) www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/object/article

what's outrageous?
It's apparently a legal peaceful protest.
I am wondering the same.. is it because they are black?
edit: Sorry african american
whats the problem. the guy killed 4 gangsters who were trying to kill him right? see no harm in this rally
MLK is rolling over in his grave.
Trade in material assumptions for spiritual facts and make permanent progress.
What's also outrageous are the posts supporting this guy. Yes, they have the legal right to march, but that doesn't make it the right thing to do. This guy's a quadruple cop killer. And people are lionizing him. Police officers are the only thing that protect our society from outright anarchy. Sometimes, some of them overstep their authority, and when they do, they should be punished for it. But in this case, you had a thug killing officers in cold blood. These marches are disgusting.

It's the right thing to do in their eyes apparently, I don't know anything about the area these people live in but judging by a few articles on this issue, the people in this community are just about tired of police terrorizing them.
While I have no idea what terrorizing is exactly to these people, for all we know the cops could in fact just be doing their job honestly. However it is also very possible that these cops are abusing their power over the law, and are getting away with it. One would have to live in the area I suppose to really understand whats going on there.
I think these people are idolizing Mixon because he actually stood up to the police for once, possibly corrupt police that have been abusing them, and that must mean something to them.
While I do not agree with killings, what has me torn on this topic is that alot of the people in that community seem to back up this idea and mixon's little battle with the cops, which makes me wonder what exactly is going on in Oakland.
Anyways as for the protest, as long its a legal peaceful protest, then really it's fine. After that, its just a matter of whether or not you agree or disagree with their belief.
Its a sad situation. Most of the time these area's are filled with corrupt cops. Add onto that the locals idolize negative behaviour because it actually gives out short term benifits. Desensitived and unexposed to any other environment , they begin to perpetuate the process on there own. Basically the only real soltutions are what occur in third world countries. Bring in security forces, protect those who will participate in education programs. Give them jobs. It usually happens when you protect the feel cool heads in the group. The cool heads do die and often. Perpetuate there martyrdom enough and a new situation grows. Peace spreads. It costs blood. Thats life though. It always costs blood.
I support this because black people are cool.

And how would you like to be a family member of one of those murdered police officers and see these people celebrating the life of their murderer? Police officers put their lives on the line and their relatives have to go through the worst heartache because of these senseless killings.
You are making complete assumptions about these cops being corrupt and terrorizing the community in order to support this protest march. The facts are that this violent crook had a rap sheet a mile long and did not want to go back to jail, so he decided to take the lives of innocent cops rather than surrender. He was not some kind of avenger, he was a coward running from the law. As Coach Jim Calhoun said at a press conference recently, "Get some facts and come back and see me!"

Maybe they are marching to make this black fellow an idol but to protest against 41 years of police terror... well thats what the banner they carry says.
I You are just being caucasian...:P They have the right, and if they have the right there is no reason not to excercise it.
makes you wonder what would have happened to the black community if MLK wasnt assasinated.

Why are you bringing race into this? Yes he was black and the cops were white, but this was not about race. This was about a lawbreaker killing law enforcement officers. If there has been a history of abuse by the police in the community where he was killed, I can think of better venues on which to protest than the violent deaths of 4 cops by a known felon.
You know, when an innocent black man gets killed or harrassed by the police, there is an outcry against the police; and rightly so. Just like that football player in Dallas who was stopped at the hospital when his mother-in-law was dying. That cop screwed up and he is being punished for it. He deserves to be. But when the show is on the other foot, it seems the cops still get blamed. Do these 4 dead cops and their families have to suffer this humiliation while they are being laid to rest?
makes you wonder what would have happened to the black community if MLK wasnt assasinated.
this made me think of the boondock eps of mlk..
Those people are disgusting and probably heavily invested in criminal enterprise, which is why they don't like cops. The fact that they have not only chosen this particular time to unite but idolize the cop-killer should tell you something, and make you wonder about the 41 years of "terror".
If you are a gang-raping, drug-peddling, etc etc you would probably view law enforcement officials as terrorists! LoL@ the accusations of racism in their banners, that's icing on the cake.

Of course the families of these officers are not going to like this at all, I know I wouldn't. And yes their are honorable police officers out there, but as I said and im sure you know, their are plenty of corrupt ones who only joined so they can abuse the law and not get caught.
My assumption is based off this communities reaction, and nature of the situation. The fact that the police appear to be caucasian, and this particular community african american could also suggest that their is a race problem in this area.
The community itself, is quite happy about what happened. Why would they be so thrilled to hear that cops were slain? Naturally one can assume that these cops have been terrorizing them to a point that they would accept any method of getting away from them, and is an understandable possibility, especially if these cops are getting away with this stuff and not being punished for their actions. Of course I also understand that this is just a bad neighborhood that hates cops regardless of whether they are corrupt or honorable, however beyond the Mixon shooting, ive yet to hear that these people have been slaying/beating cops left and right. Instead it seems they resort to peaceful protesting.
What Mixon did was wrong up to this point, since we don't know exactly if these 4 cops had maybe abused him/the community. However to say that these protesters are doing something wrong through peaceful protest is debatable if not false, because their is the possibility that the law enforcment in this area discriminates against African Americans, or are simply plain abusive.
Unless we live in the area however, we simply don't know at this point.

that eps was one of their best...

half the people in this thread scare the shit out of me.
You support the guy who killed 4 cops who had families and children? And then when someone talks about how the parade was very much in poor taste some of you whip out the race card.
Bunch of shallow ass retarded people frequent these forums.
People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.
These people don't deserve any respect since they can't seem to see how to give it themselves. Why is it the cops always have to walk on eggshells when dealing with minorities? Why are they supposed to be treated any different than anyone else? If they don't want the police keeping the peace then perhaps they should build a wall around this city and let anarchy rule. I assume it wouldn't be too awful long before they're crying for help.
The itiots supporting this guy are no better than the war protestors rallying at a soldiers funeral. And this rally might have been peacfull, but didn't they just have a mini riot not long ago because they were angry with the police over the bart shooting? You can't win with people that think like them.
It's a sad world folks and people are getting dumber everyday. We are a regressing society today.
This website is a safe haven for trolls and haters. I'm done with this pathetic site.
they are gangsters, they get away with murder all the time and many, many other criminal offenses that they fry the average person for. sure there are good cops, but not a majority of them thats for sure.
any of your friends got a dui lately? a good friend of mine did(not even driving, first dui, liscense gone is suspended for over 3 years)
the cop who gave it to him basicly destroyed his life because of a grudge, and has already been caught 4 times by my friends P.I. in just over a month driving drunk. no charges filed, no diciplinary action.
thats just an example of what most cops get away with everywhere, every day.
im not saying killing cops is cool, or killing anyone is cool. but i think those people have a right to hate those cops, because history has shown they are alot worse there than they are in my suburbia. if i was in their shoes i would be right there with them, and so would most of you. easy to say you wouldn't but you don't know that.
Yes, because that could be the reason. Terrorizing is apparently a relative word now.
"The cops terrorized me by arresting me for possession of illegal drugs and firearms."
That part of Oakland is extremely rampant with gangs and crime. Those poor gangs must be sick of being terrorized by those racist cops. Let's call the ACLU - maybe they can get a protected minority group status.
i call bullshit. I worked for the Pasco County Sheriff Office from 1993 to 1996 and quit because I hated it but out of the 200 deputies we had employed, every single one of them did their jobs very well and had the upmost respect for the badge.
If you friend got busted for a DUI, then , sorry for my french, but tought shit. He should be lucky he didnt get jail time. He should have thought about loosing his license before actling like an asshole and getting in a 2 ton car drunk. Just so you know, suspension of a licence is utterly normal for DUI...yes even first offense because the law is so blatently obvious and avoidable.
Your common sense mentality is sorely lacking.
People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.
Reminds me of this South Park episode.
If you are driving drunk and get caught there is NO way you should be pissed with the officers that arrested you or your friend. If you want to be pissed at anyone look in the mirror, because that is the only person you can blame for ruining your life. My sister had to have her face put back on, her bones reset without pain medicine, and her spleen removed her senior year of highschool because of some jerk got behind the wheel after having too many and was speeding driving on the wrong side of the road. Her life will never be the same and she is lucky to be alive at all. I am against the fact that any officer took it easy on you to begin with, no they should have prosecuted you to the full extent of the law to make you fully understand that NO ONE should get behind the wheel under the infuence of ANYTHING. I don;t care if you think that ruins your life, or youir friends life.. you made that choice when you got behind the wheel in the first place, or even started drinking without arranging a ride ahead of time.
No the policeman did his job in this case and rightly so.
If you have enough money to drink yourself stupid, then I am pretty sure you have enough money to call a cab to return you home. Simple as that. Else gather a few friends at your house and drink in safety without risking neither yours nor anyone else's life...
A friend is not him who provides support during your failures.A friend is the one that cheers you during your successes.
