Seems someone was lying about this game beeing a F2P game. Found out you can only get to level 8 before you are forced to start paying like $18 for it... This is the most expensive monthly MMO I have seen... and they say its FREE TO PLAY... haha, was a joke...
Comments
Actually if you think about it they weren't really lying to you, it's free to play....until lvl 8 (they just didn't mention that part) LOL...GG
WOW...you truely are misinformed!
Right on the front page:

there is nothing in there that I "Swore By", just what I heard back when I used to play TCOS EU Beta/Early Release. The info is a bit dated, but I did say "I hear" as in I heard, not I "know".

What you heard back then? That info is not only dated it was probably wrong back then aswell. Why not simply check what the game publisher(s) says?
You information could be based on a assumption which in turn could be based on what they would have wanted things to be. As acclaim fo have alot of cash-shop games the assumption could be that so will Spellborn be.
It is not what you are saying now, but there is (alot of) people thinking that P2P is something odd and react accordingly. And guess what?
I'm so broke. I can't even pay attention.
"You have the right not to be killed"
You just have to read the official webb page before playing the game.
Spellborn ain't meant to be a F2P game, it is just that the trial is unlimited time instead for a certain number of days as most are. Few trials give you access to the whole game anyways.
did they put in player housing or even guild halls ?
First, L2R.
Secondly, L2R.
The information is on the webpage. Right there.
Most expensive mmo? Your tripping. Or trolling. Probably both.
They give you the client (the box) for FREE. Something which Funcom or Mythic charged you £35ish for, for a better game then, imo, both of them offered.
They then give you a FREE trial, from DAY 1, to allow you to see if you like the game and how it plays. How many P2P games have done that? Most devs are more busy hiding their broken games to be this honest about their product.
They then only ask for a competitive standard mmorpg subscription for you to play, once you have personally experienced the product on offer and know that you like it.
And you still call it 'expensive'?
This is the most reasonable, open and honest sales plan I have ever seen in a mmorpg, yet still people find room to moan.
The troll tide on this forum is definitly rising with it's profile.
Game is mediocre. Not worth spending money on.
And this is why you are given a free trial.
See how SB's sales plan is saving money for people already? It cost me around £100 to find out that AoC and WAR were both mediocre at best, and at worst broken, and that LotR was just to generic, ez mode, and bland for my tastes.
Imagine how mad it was to find the game I loved in a underhyped free trial.
Even if SB isnt to you taste, and it definitly won't be to everyone's as shown here, no matter how good a lot of people think it is, at least give it credit for giving the chance to find out with no risk of cost to you.
SB gives you the chance to form your own opinion on it, rather then have to rely ungrounded and unjustified generic statements by anonymous peoples on the the interwebz.
It is only $15.00 a month. Or that is all I pay.
It is free to download and play as much as you want to in the starter areas. Level up to 7 characters....heck even more if you delete ones you maxed out...up to level 7.9.
It is cheaper than most MMORPGs because there is NO box to buy and pay $49.99 for. And there is no cash shop to spend way more than $15.00 a month on.
TCoS is actually the cheapest monthly MMORPG out there currently.
EU is subscription based, but I hear that NA version by Acclaim is going to be F2P cash shop, so....
people hear what they want to hear. even on this board there were tons of ppl saying thath f2p+cash shop was only a rumor...
anyway i agree with the posters b4 me and say grats for saving 35$ for a box
i for one really love tcos and play/ pay it for 3 month now

As has been said, this is wrong.
I have asked this question to the powers that be, because it is a concern to me as well being a hater of so called 'F2P' games and Pay to Achieve gaming, and they have underlined that SB will not have an item shop in any form and Acclaim are committed to the P2P model with this game.
Please do not spread ungrounded misinformation and unfounded rumours around just to appear clever or that you 'know something'. It is worse then trolling.

Ahh its good to see you crushing the mentally challenged underfoot with pure and simple logic that no-one can argue against. It looks like you win yet another thread.
I'm glad I stumbled upon this topic now actually. I have pretty much given up on mmos lately because they all seem to be shit but the fact that I can try out CoS for free with no time limit attached to it and also dont have to pay for the original box sounds quite appealing so I might have to give this game a try. Why would I not try it when its completely free? I stand to lose nothing (except some of my time) unlike all the other garbage mmos which charged me money only for me to find out that they were complete crap (eg WAR).
Thankyou to the OP as well. Your insane level of stupidity, misinformation and general ignorance has made me aware of this game. Cheers.
I love how folks give opinions and dont give any rhyme or reason for them.
Very informative post, I learned alot, gj.

I downloaded and began installing ... only to see nProtect GameGuard try to install. I quickly stopped the install, and deleted TCoS.
GameGuard is evil, don't put that crap on your PC.
MMO Strategy Guides
Hmmm I just read up about Nprotect Gameguard. It does indeed seem rather evil
The design and intention of GG is to prevent cheats and hacks without interfering with your system. It may not be perfect, but the alternative is much worse. Speed hacks, damage hacks, range hacks, and who knows what other exploits would be possible without GG.
I've been running GG on two different systems, two different OS's, both running AVG Free, and have had zero problems. The evilness of GG is greatly exagerated.
But back on topic, vesavius nailed it. Nothing more to add. It never ceases to amaze me just how much misinformation there is in gaming, politics, news and just about everything else in life.

Plus the game is free to play forever, even if you never pay a penny for subscription. You can play as many characters up to level 8 as you choose for an indefinate period of time. The trial doesnt end after 14 days or whatever.
This is a modified version of GG. It doesn't even install itself. It's totally contained in the client folder and only runs when the client is started. I found no traces of GG anywhere else on the system other than the client folder. Blacklight, Malwarebyte's and Gmer all come up clean after throrough scans. This is not the normel GG you see installed with many F2P games.
LMAO
Its an easy mistake to make. Its not like they list all this stuff on the website..oh wait.

So, basically, the game has a built-in unlimited free trial, with a seamless transition to the full paid game if you so choose. Sounds good to me.
If you cheat and hack in games, then GameGuard is evil yes.
We, honest players, who play games for fun..... I don't see a problem with GameGuard at all.
Everything runs fine as it should be. Many games, software and so also TCOS with GameGuard.
And GameGuard has so far (months later) nothing done to my system.
If GameGuard fails on your PC and thus fails to run TCOS, then usually it does for a good reason
Cheers
