Active p2p mmorpgs that can be played on a very low spec laptop(netbook)

So, I plan to build myself a gaming computer later this year but in the meantime I need a low spec mmo to hold me over. I was thinking maybe dark age of camelot or the original everquest. Any recommendations?

Wow have an amazingly low requirement.  Post your spec so we can know what your laptop can handle.

As you can see, this thing is not exactly made for gaming. I bought it for it's portability and light weight.

EDIT: Oh, and by the way....

World Of Warcraft will run on this thing but it will lag like crazy during raids, or so i've heard from other Netbook owners.

I only glanced at it bu does it have any type of a video card. To be it doesn't look like it would play WoW. Prehaps a cheap old F2P mmo or old UO(not sure if it would do the new version of UO)

chronicles of  spellborn can run on pretty low specs and thanks to the art style still look pretty sexy

You'd be very surprised what this thing can do actually. It has integrated graphics, but it can run a surprising amount of games.

Just a few moments ago I logged off of Lord Of The Rings Online. It runs at a playable fps, but that is one game that I refuse to play at anything less than max settings, because of it's beauty. I know WoW plays, Eve plays, but with both of those games, there is a fair amount of lag when in crouded areas.

I tried to install Chronicles of Spellborn on my Asus eee PC 1002HA netbook which has very similar specs but slightly better graphics. And yes it can run in window mode but even at lowest setting you are down to 3-4 FPS in towns.

Im going to try CoH when I get back from work today. :)

Dofus would probably run even on netbooks and it's P2P. It might not be what you're looking for (turn-based battles and huge amounts of grind), but it's got free trial area and it's only something like 100mb download, so I'd suggest trying it.

Be careful if you play music on it:

I kid you not, that is NOT an April fools joke.

You are not going to run any recent MMO's with that system without some form of graphical lag. The game that is most likely to run fine is WoW with low/med settings, but expect lag in Dalaran with 100+ players on screen.

EQ, Wow, Guildwars (which isn't really a P2P game but since it is fun and doesn't have a RMT shop I reccomend it anyways).

How much does it cost to play Secondhand Lands?

    What are Credits?

Secondhand Lands is a free game with a micro-payment system. You have the option of purchasing Credits, which can be used to buy Guild Deeds and Item Binding Certificates. Credits can also be used to alter your character's appearance, and to participate in factional activities.

I would suggest trying The Chronicles of Spellborn if you're looking for an active P2P that can be ran on a large variety of systems. The game plays very well on low on older computers, and still keeps alot of the beauty with it. On high it provides an even more stunning world. Coupled with rock solid gameplay, it's at least worth trying.

Erm... you can't buy dodge neon and then wonder why it won't beat a Corvette in a race.

I'm not being a dick, I'm being honest.

If you want to play games, you have to buy a gaming laptop.  They start at $1500 for an average one.  Anybody who tells you otherwise is lying, or built a patchwork one from crap parts not realizing it's going to melt in a few months.

Portability and lightweight is awesome, I agree.  And if you can fire up original EQ, maybe CoH, or even WoW then that's great, but there are parts of any MMO that are going to drag you to a crawl, especially with that video card.

Hence the topic title. I know for a fact that a few of the older games will run without lag. EQ and Anarchy Online being two off the top of my head. So what you're telling me, is that you think I should buy a 1500 gaming computer to play Everquest? No thanks. I'll buy a gaming laptop when a few of my anticipated pc games are released.

It always amuses me when people come into my topics apparently unable to read. I specifically asked for low spec p2p mmos, which there are plenty of and you come in here telling me to buy a gaming pc. Why exactly would I need a gaming pc to play old games? Seriously.

So, I think I may give Everquest or Dark Age Of Camelot a try. I know for sure I can run those two with no problems whatsoever. Also considering Ultima Online depending on how active it still is. Thanks for the suggestions guys.

EDIT: I may also give Anarchy Online another go. I used to play it with no problems on high settings with this laptop before, but I only played in the free areas.

Just tried to install CoH/CoV on an Eee PC 1002 HA which have almost the same specs as the OPs netbook and it runs fairly ok when you set the graphic settings low.

The game also have no problems with the 1024x600 screen resolution.
