Hi.
I've just got my free 7 day trial and I've not played an MMO in ages and this one actually looks promising, the combat looks nice, the world looks very nice, all in all I'm looking forward to giving it a try.
Now it sounds like there is alot of skepticism as to whether this game is actually good. They have said they have greatly improved the game since it's summer launch of 2008 and are also creating an offer to bring back existing players so they can have a taste of what the game now has to offer (which I think is pretty sweet)
I'm just downloading the game now it's like almost 9GBS! I'm shocked! It said "Patching File 3/4" and that file was 500' odd megabytes so I thought, great, I'll be playing soon... AND THEN boom I get hit with the 8GB file hahah.. Aww.
Btw if you are going to be playing later my download will be finished in a few hours so give me your username or character name or whatever I need.

I wouldn't mind giving the trial game a testing, but no way am I wasting my time with a 12gig download.
I believe these huge file downloads will only get more common. They are basically the full client/game and the account is restricted.
AoC is a solid game. It had a troubled launch but has fixed many of the problems it had back then. These days its having a bit of a resurgance. The first 20 levels are still the best, but the later levels are much improved.
I wrote an Age of Conan Review for anyone who is considering AoC
good luck with the download
Torrential: DAOC (Pendragon)
Awned: World of Warcraft (Lothar)
Torren: Warhammer Online (Praag)
Downloading 12gb file to only try a game for 7 days sucks.. That's dumb and developers should start thinking and make trial versions of their games MUCH smaller...
I don't think you get the politics behind it...
in (Open?) beta they only opened up the first 20 levels of the game (Which happen to be some of the greatest PvE in any MMO I've ever encountered)
so people experienced that, but not the rest of the game, which is pretty good, but definitely not like Tortage.
The reason they opened up the entire game to the 7 day trial is so that people wouldn't think that they are trying to hide the rest of the game, so that people could make a real decision.

Guys! I'm hopelessly lost in a mountain of mole hills! Them damn moles!
interesting, thanks for the info.
I've downloaded around 5GB now so only 3.5GB to go
I really like it so far, but still reserving my overall opinion until after I get out of Tortage as everything I've read says to not judge the game by the first 20 levels. So I'll plug away on my trial and get out of there tonight hopefully and see what everyone's problem with the main game is supposed to be.
Right now though, as only seeing tortage so far, I can see why people would have bought this game and subbed outright after trying it. It's brilliant so far, so good in fact...that yeah. I can totally see why peeps would have been wanting the level of tortage to carry out through the rest of the game and bummed when it didn't happen.
Been waiting for a trial to make up my own mind. Should've done that with WAR as well, but that being said, the game is pretty fun during tier 1 and 2 and would have subbed to it regardless. It's afterwords that everything falls apart as has been said about this game. Will see.
Geeze, you can't possibly tell me that you're not going to "waste your time" doing something else and that a download in the background is an UNACCEPTABLE THING TO BE GOING ON IN THE BACKGROUND.
Where's the sense of Reason in that?
If you want to play the game, download it and while its downloading... I don't know... do what you'd be doing... anyway?
I've downloaded the game 1 day ago and it looks fun, at least the PvE part....
And I don't know why you complain about a 13G download, if you have recently downloaded any new games like HAWX or Endwar they are like 6G-8G so 13G is not too much for a "new" mmorpg. And btw I got a 14-day trial from fileplanet.com =D so the download is not a big issue. I rather download a game of 30G but worth playing than a 4G game and waste a single day on it.
I like the game so far (at level 10). However, I am struggling with the combat. I really like the combat, but the beginning did not do a good job of explaining how to use the combat system. I wanted to figure it out by playing the game, but I am not 100% on the shield system, and the combo system, ect. I feel it is too complicated. I don't feel like I should have to read instructions on the side on how to use the system. Why not just incorporate the combat into the beginning of the game and explain it.
I appreciate that the combat is trying to be something different and innovative, and it certainly is, but I play MMOs for so many other reasons. Let's be honest, MMO combat is nothing compared to console MMO combat so why focus so much on it? Clearly combat is not the reason people play MMOs. However, with that said, if the combat was explained to me in a fun way I would probably buy into it. But to have to read an instruction manual on how to fight is just too boring for me to do.
Whats so hard about combat system? You push a button; you see the arrows and hit the arrows on your ui correspondating with the one given from the combo.
Shielding is; hit where the shild is not gives more dmg; hit where all 3 shields are; do much less dmg. If the target has sheiled on every place, it dont matter where you hit. Combodmg gives to the last area the combo hits(you can see a small arrow on your combobutton that indicates where the combo will hit the target)
I played Age of Conan at launch and i liked the game, just so many bugs and problems. Are these problems ironed out now? Would i like it if i re patched up and gave the trial a go?
i have been waiting for a trial version so i can test this game. i hope its a good game since right now i dont know what else to play
