My surprise encounter with Beerman of KGB ( 1998 Ultima Online, Pacific Server): I was roleplaying an environmentalist murderer on UO's Pacific server, and one day I came across a mule character gathering wood in the forest. Since he was neither attacking nor fleeing it was a perfect opportunity for interaction. I told him it was my forest and that it was in his best interest to leave. He kept chopping the tree and emoted that he glanced over his shoulder and then said, "You don't recognize me, do you?" I replied that I did not and he said "... and that will be your demise." I did some *quirks brow* or other emote and then he turned to me, throwing his cape on the ground and equipping a sword, yelling "For I am BEERMAN OF KGB!" and charged at me. He was dead nude and equipped with just a sword, so there was no way I was attacking him since he would have died in one hit and i doubt that would have been fun for either of us. I emoted a shriek from my character and rode off quickly into the woods.
What made that encounter memorable was entirely Beerman of Knights of Glory and Beer (KGB). He's not a roleplayer and he's on his dead naked alt gathering resources, more than likely for gear he needs. A PK showing up in a situation like that is nothing short of an extreme inconvenience, and most people either just flee or stand there spamming profanity at you in ALLCAPS even before you attack. Beerman took the time to have fun with the moment and created a very unexpected and entertaining scenario.

1. On DAOC Prydwen/Midgard on a dragon raid bout 4/5 years ago, iwas playing my Runemaster RUnimatrix and there must have been 500+ people at this raid since the dragon had never been killed before in Mid, was a epic event. I ended up stokin the fire and shouting charge before we were ready and we all wiped, good times haha.
2. same server again on the day Prydwen & Excalibur servers were merged, the amount of people PvP in odins gate caused the area to crash for a few hours!
3. this isnt my personal event but when a hunter on a US server in DAOC managed to slip by the mile gates and go into Alb Lands, is was unheard of! A level 50 in the starting areas where all those low lvl people played ha.
4. SWG when Jedi's were the bomb!, i was a Master BH and there were about 5 of us 1 day who thought we would try and kill a jedi, was bad times for us anyway!
5. Having a Shadowblade on Mid/Pryd in DAoC called Cokaine and a dev/gm messaged me ingame asking me what alternative name i wanted i said God he said i could keep my name haha.

GOD I miss that game!!!!
My most memorable moment was playing UO as well. I remember it perfectly: The first time I PvPed in an MMO and won.
When I first started playing Ultima Online, I was instantly hooked. I was such a n00b. I had never played an MMORPG before but loved it. Well, I had only been playing for a couple of days at this point so I was not even capable of defending myself yet. Didn't have no GM skills, but was getting better slowly but surely. Anyways, I was mining next to the mining town called Minoc. So there I am mining and smelting my ore, just minding my own business when someone enters the mine and says:
"Hail!"
I reply "Hail"
"Guess what?"
"What?"
"n00b PK r0x0rz d00d!"
Then he charged at me. Now I gathered this player wasn't a seasoned player either, but at this point I had never beat anyone in PvP, this was my first actual fight. I didn't know anything about tactics really. So we're both on foot and i'm running around the anvil to avoid him, he catches several hits. While running I kept trying to cast polymorph, so I could polymorph into an orc and get the strength bonuses. Well the spell kept fizzling because my magery was too low. So he's chasing me around and around. 20 seconds go by and finally I cast it. Once I polymorph he turns to run and I'm hot on his tail wielding an Axe.
He never made it to the bridge, and I got my first kill.
Constantly stealing aggro on my Beastlord from Warrior/Paladin/SK tanks by spamming my low level poison and slow spells. Even if it gets resisted, it still pulled aggro. The nasty tells I got... hahaha. They could never pull it off me.

Halloween as a total newb in EQ1. I was in qeynos hills... the sky turned blood red and there were "high" level undead everywhere!
Naked gnome race accross the world. GM event held in EQ1 shortly after Luclin came out. I finished (eventually) and got a SoW potion with a bunch of charges.
Froglok assault on the troll city, and turning it back into their own city. GM's played frogloks... we players fought along side them and decimpated the NPC population of the troll/ogre city.
The introduction of player cities and vehicles to SWG
Seeing WoW on a friends screen while he rode a flightpath.... I was playing EQ2 at the time and seeing this blew me away. Bought Wow the following day. Did you ever see a gryphon ride over the qeynos hills compared to a gryphon ride through elwynn forest?
Logging back into SWG and being asked to choose a class..... ack.
Being promised a new high tech EQ1 type game with a seamless world, player cities, player ships, battles at sea...... and epic journeys..... then actually playing vanguard as realeased.
Grymm MMO addict in recovery! EQ,SWG preCU,L2,EQ2,GW,CoH/CoV,V:SOH, Aion,AoC,TR,WAR,EVE,BP,RIFT,WoW and others... no more!

EQ2 when it first came out.It was my first mmo and one of the first games I played on my new computer I had bought.I finally could play games on the pc as before that I had crap for a pc.Always wanted to play eq1 but couldnt so played eq2 and it was really cool back in the day and as a first mmo.Getting off the newbie island and seeing qeynos it looked really great for a game in 2004.Remember farming giants with a group for the first time it was amazing seeing those huge guys fall.I remember getting to level 20, which at the time was actually an accomplishment and getting my last name, a fun spell, and a new fire pet(I was a conjuror). The game was really good back then as you actually grouped outside of instances just to hunt mobs.Learning new languages and gaining access to new areas was cool too.The game was a mystery to me then and there were many hidden areas to discover and named mobs to kill.Really enjoyed it back then. It's just not the same anymore.
WOW back pre TBC getting to level 60 and finally able to raid.Clearing Molten Core for the first time, getting my first epic t1 piece, killing onyxia and getting my first t2,Moonkin form when it first came out was hilarious and fun, farming ZG and staying up all night trying to get my ZG set pieces,TBC on launch day and seeing outlands for the first time and the new items.I miss old WOW, altho it's not a bad game now eaither.
AOC on launch day.Back then I still had my old gaming computer and it was really showing it'a age.Had to play it on lowest setting. Was still awsome tho, at least up to level 20.One of the best noob experiences in any mmo IMHO.Tortage was awsome.

I enjoyed reading your THOUGHTS on WoW Lol It reminded me of the ORIGINAL LEEEEROY JENKINS not the ACHIEVEMENT. The REAL achievement was finding LEEEEROY JENKINS in UBRS with NO mods that WoW players use today.
DANG I wish ANYONE would have a PRINTSCREEN on it.
1) When Richard Garriot first joined NCSoft and took control of an event on Lineage 1 and put on a display of dragon killing uberness in a single character.
2) DAOC release of SI expansion. Highlight of the game for me as it was all downhill afterwards. Being part of a role playing guild on Mordred called the Shadowclan who actually had its own kobold language to chat with (text only)
3) Initial release of WOW. My whole guild from DAOC moved over and the game seemed so full of promise. 6 months later and the reality of the game hit home and the dream ended.
4) Day I realized that EVE was a good game and I was going to be able to carve a piece of the universe for myself. (I had resisted for so long)
5) First time my WOW guild took down the final Boss in BWL for the first time. I was there, and I was proud of what we had accomplished.

1. Getting pk'd in UO with house key and rune to front doorstep in my backpack(always left in bank usually, just had a brain fart that night). Logged in with another character and fought duels with several hidden players looting my house. Lost most of my stuff, but had a great time in the fight.
2. Darkness falls in DAoC, when they added that dungeon was one of the best things they ever did in that game. Monumental fights in there.
3. Asheron's call, one of the best games to explore in ever. More dungeons in that game than any game ever.
4. The debacle of NGE in SWG, making me change my master creature handler into a medic. Will never forgive SOE for destroying that game.
5. Beating the boss in molten core for the first time in Wow. So many wipes prior were all worth it.
Nothing could touch it and I have played dozens of MMOs. But the most memorable experience was reaching level 50 in Dark Age of Camelot, meaning I was legitimate to play RVR in Albion (as a Paladin). Still sends a tingle down my spine when I recall how fantastic it felt. Long live DAoC, Revive and relaunch DAoC.
gonna add some more... my first post was not really WoW stuff... but that wasnt fair...
keep in mind I played many MMO's before WoW
First deadmines run... blew my mind. First time doing onyxia.... now that's what a dragons lair and battle with a dragon should be like! First time doing the first boss of BWL... omg the madness of it! Doing the low level warlock class quests on a PvP server in WoW as a total newbie.... horde territory!
more non wow stuff:
Losing my first Battlecruiser in Eve only an hour after buying it, and it was uninsured.... my vision literally blurred and I felt weird for a moment. First time seeing the login screen of L2 during open beta... omg the graphics and music! First time doing character creation in SWG... holy customization batman! Killing Lucan D'lere in EQ1 and becoming KOS in most of Freeport Creating an evil human (DK) in EQ1 and having to sneak around in dark sewers Falling off the boat to Kunark and having to swim for what seemed like an hour to find land... while fearing what might be beneath the surface. Being lost in the wilderness of EQ1 (several times) My first journey from Qeynos to Butcher Block in EQ1.... on my first level 10... epic.
Hey some of my best Memories are from WoW. Like when I took my Hunter and her BEAR who I originaly had from the first hunter quest that gave me my Training Lesson. See the thing is being a NIGHT ELF and a explorer. (I love to explore in games. I lvl up that way.) So I wound up in IF terriotory to find my ICE claw bear. (Named him BEARBEAR Lol) Well from there I MASTERED my skills enough and after lvl CAPPING. This was pre BC that I knew I was good enought to PVE in HORDIE terroritoy so I went to Splintertree Post just to lvl the area. Hey they deserved it since all they wanted to do was send in 20+ to ASTRANAAR (Why the horde thought they needed so many?? I always viewed them as COWARDS. Lol) SOOOOOO much fun. For most of the part HORDES had to send at least THREE or more to take me out. GOOD times.
The initial opening of the Plane of Fear in Everquest (October 1999) should probably be on that list.
"Those who dislike things based only on the fact that they are popular are just as shallow and superficial as those who only like them for the same reason."
My 5 most memorable moments. Most were from EQ as that was my first.
1. Happy Halfling tours. There is a good 10-15 minutes maybe longer (probably less but it feels like longer) boat right between butcherblock and east freeport in EQ. While on the boat this short, dumpy (aren't they all) halfling came on and said, "WELCOME TO HAPPY HALFLING TOURS". He then proceeded to give details explanations of all the sights, the water, the sharks in the ocean the islands we passed by. Then he got off on one island and said, "and now I'm leaving before the sea monster comes to get you" Strangely enough I crashed to desktop right at that moment.
2. Again in freeport by the bank in EQ. I guy was having a little session between him and the NPC guard. He was moaning how the wars had cost him his wife, his children, his parents, his life savings, his 1 legged dog... you get the idea. This went on for about 10 minutes about how crappy his life was then in a fit of rage he blamed it all on his captain (the NPC guard) who promptly killed him.
3. Horizons when I first was able to play as a dragon (awesome), then when I first was able to grow into a bigger dragon and finally fly, awesome. And of cours the bipeds that can learn every skill in the game to become a god haha.
4. In EQ going to unrest. Spooky dungeon filled with undead things. Probably my third time in there and every once in while there is a big train dead guys coming up from the lower levels. Anyway I travel along the spooky lake, into the spooky tunnel.. zone... and then I'm in and OMG a big ass grim reaper guy (can't remember what they were called was just standing right at the entrance waiting. Nearly peed myself turning around. Went back in... AUGGH he's still there. Wait a minute... some necro had just parked his pet there to freak us all out. haha it worked too.
5. My first halloween in even in EQ in Kelethin. I just finished fighting some bandit and a message pops up, "You feel someone tapping on your shoulder." Turn around and there is a massive grim reaper guy again grinning down on me... dead. Think his name was tweedledee, and there was his friend tweedledum around as well. So much fun. so much death. Those things wreaked havoc on us little elves.
6. This didn't actually happen to me, it happened to my brother (no really). It was in EQ in the throne room at crushbone ( a small zone filled with orcs). My brother was playing some mellee type and there was a druid who was the healer. This guy was obviously new, probably not just to the game, but to MMO's in general and was doing a horrible job healing. Being new he probably didn't realize he was supposed as the only healer he was supposed to heal and not much else. He would go in and mellee a bit, and draw agro, or nuke a bit and draw agro and not have enough mana to heal people. Anyway my brother was getting irritated and supposedly sent me a tell saying, "Man this healer just sucks."
Meanwhile I am in my room playing my bard listing to him playing his character across the hall, when all of a sudden "silence". He didn't send the text to me, yes it was all our worst fears. He accidently said it in /say to the whole group and everyone else around. The leader just says, "open mouth, insert foot." The druid says, "I'm trying my best it's my first day." My brother never played that character again. To this day I always bug him going that could have been just a kid, someone like your neice just starting out in the genre and you destroyed them.
That one was the best.

My top 5
1. Getting my first gate spell as a druid in 1999 about July and gating to West Commons in EQ
2 Hitting level 50 as a druid kiting dwarfs at the BB docks in EQ
3. Hitting Creature Handler at master level and brining out 3 rancorrs (NGE)
4. The day Star Wars MMo died due to NGE.
5. Getting my druid epic after months of work and where death meant having to run back and get your items.
One that cannot be numbered was meeting my future wife( married in 2003) in EQ at one of the GM wedding events.

Another memory that just came back to me:

My brand new bloggity blog.
Welcome and TY for the POST.
1 finally getting my chocoboo license in FFxi That was a great moment took a lot of work and scary travels to jeuno to get it.
2 The combat system in Tcos I love it pvp rocks in that game.
3. My first dungeon crawl solo with a necromancer on Eq.
4. SWG pre nge my first love in mmo's it was the best game i had ever played the galactic war was fun the open ended gameplay rocked.
5. Entering the Shire for the first time in Lotro it was so beautiful.
In no particular order:
1. My first time thru Dead Mines. Opening the door from the mines and seeing....A pirate cove!. Too cool.
2. My first travel power in CoH. Man, I still miss leaping tall buildings, so much fun
3. My WP getting attacked in WAR by a marauder 2 levels above me, and winning due to my heals, watching him try to run away was great
4. My first PQ in WAR, killing the boss, and getting a purple(blue?) item out of the chest.
5. The Estate of Unrest in EQ1. I just loved those cackiling jack-o-lanterns, and can u say TRAAAIIN!?
P.s PINKFLOYD rules!!

So many wipes prior were all worth it.
anybody remember the undead invasion of trinsic in Ultima Online..that was a cool event
gamertag - Swaffle House
gonna add some more... my first post was not really WoW stuff... but that wasnt fair...
keep in mind I played many MMO's before WoW
Killing Lucan D'lere in EQ1 and becoming KOS in most of Freeport
Creating an evil human (DK) in EQ1 and having to sneak around in dark sewers
Falling off the boat to Kunark and having to swim for what seemed like an hour to find land... while fearing what might be beneath the surface.
Being lost in the wilderness of EQ1 (several times)
My first journey from Qeynos to Butcher Block in EQ1.... on my first level 10... epic.

Both come from UO
1)Taming dragons and attacking people with them lol.
2 )The first time I ran into a pk town in UO.
Other mmos have been fun games but not terribly memorable. You always remember your first love in any part of life.
Great thread.
1. Wow- First time in Shadow fang keep with some rl friends.
2. Wow- Onyxia. With 30+ guildies.
3. Lotro- Learning to play an instrument in shire with some random players under a apple tree that jammed togheter.
4. Wow- The hour long battles in AV.
5. Vanguard- The unicorn questline.

1. The cutscene for the Veteran of the Wrathgate achievement.
2. Tanking General Ssraeshza in EQ1
3. Shadows of Luclin release
4. City of heroes launch. Hell, everytime I make a new character it's my favorite event in MMO history.
5. Number 5 is reserved for when Darkfall Online closes.
