Nice post! Just curious as to why there aren't more free to play games on there! There are some great F2P games that are as good if not better than some on the list. Also, Tabula Rasa is dead.

    Has Crafting (Of some sort)
City of Heroes / Villains, Dark Age of Camelot, EverQuest, Final Fantasy XIGuild Wars, Lineage II, Lord of the Rings Online, Ultima Online, World of Warcraft, Tabula Rasa, Warhammer
Deep Crafting (Widely considered to have the deepest craft systems)
EVE Online, EverQuest 2, Star Wars Galaxies, Vanguard, A Tale in the Desert, Pirates of the Burning Sea
Have a game to add? Post a reply!

Final Fantasy XI needs to be moved down to the Deep Crafting section.  It has a very grindy, extremely deep crafting system that not everyone can do because of its complexities and IMO it rivals all of the other MMOs you have listed:

    • Most of the best items are very difficult to make; that require rare and hard to acquire materials!
    • An extreme grind that takes an incredible commitment and months to raise just a few points!
    • High chance to break your crystals, lose some or all of your materials, and it costs a fortune!
    • Based on elements that co-inside with the time of day, weather, and week!
    • 8 different directions you can have your character facing that work together with the elements!
    • Crafting Guilds have open/closed schedules!
    • Every item that drops in the game has a use, most of which are in some form of craft...{there is no vendor trash}!
    • There are no in-game guides to follow or that tells you too combine X & Y to make Z!

I've done hardcore grinding on Runescape and it takes way longer than 100 days to reach the caps. In fact, nobody has reached the full cap for all levels. It's impossible even after 3 years of daily grinding.

    Good list though.

Tabula Rasa is now defunct and you cannot play it.  Not that I think anyone would expect you to keep this list always up to date, just a heads up.

Great list overall.  I've played most of the games you have listed and generally agree with all your points and don't disagree with any of them enough to correct you.  Good work.

    Hello all :)

I've been playing Lineage II for 4 years, but have fallen out of love it with it for a number of reasons. So, can anyone suggest a game which satisfies the following criteria?

    • Free to play
    • No real world cash transactions possible, including rl cash for in game items (such as is allowed in RF Online) or to buy in game currency (sadly so evident in L2)
    • Contains GMs that actually do their jobs (ie ban botting, are reactive to in game issues etc)
    • Has a reasonable player base for a UK based player (I was on a NA server on L2, as Euro servers didn't exist when I started playing)
    • Has decent graphics for a high end PC
    • Has worthwhile quests which aren't all about kill xxxx mobs to get pitiful amount of in game currency/useless items

Ideally, but not essentially, also the following:

    • Event periods as a welcome distraction to the inevitable grind
    • Ability to allow 2 or more simultaneous accounts running on one PC (eg for a buffer)
    • Some kind of crafting capability
    • Ability to buy/sell from/to other players, either individually or by setting shops

I'm not a big fan of PVP per se so that wouldn't be a big selling point to me. More interested in engrossing gameplay with good people and no griefers. Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Free Realms is a blast.  Lots of little mingames, around a bajillion classes to level.  Some stuff hasn't been fully implemented yet, mainly the Demolition Derby and Kart Racing.  That's what I'm waiting for.

And another good free one to play is Warrior Epic - pretty good dungeon crawler MMO.

What all can you do on free realms? It looks like it's kind of juvenial, but that's just at a first glance.

im looking for a game thats f2p, good graphics, fast, easy to gain mounts, good armor, etc. wat do u reccomend?

I'd definitely add eve under factional PVP, they have that (militias)

I'd also add them under either endgame or instancing, depending on how you look at it. The difference is other people can still come into your instance in eve, and whether or not you consider current wormholes (T3) endgame or not...it kind of is, I guess?

Rohan Blood Feud is F2P and has amazing graphis, and easy to follow storyline and PVP features that allow newbs to progress without getting "ganked" all the time.  Check it it, its great.

    Just few comments.

First Tabula Rasa doesn't exist anymore, so you can take it out of the first page.

    Group playing:

There is major diffrences between PvE grouping and PvE instance grouping. There are games what are build so that you only need or have to group in instances. Then there is games where grouping happen allmost all "level" all the time, even if it's not needed.

    Examples:

In RoM grouping happens allways in instances and some few harder quests. Also instances are pretty much end game stuff.

In City of Heroes, grouping happens pretty much every level, because instances are all level range.

In Ryzom players solo first and higher they get more they seem to group.

    Games:

Runes of Magic, is free game, what has okey PvE side in PvE server. Game is little like WoW. It is very nice game for solo PvE players. You can level all the way up alone. There are how ever quest what can't be done solo. The few instances what exists are only for groups, even if some players with very good gears can solo some of them. RoM is 90% gear based game, meaning that you gears defines how good you character is. Sure, as it's level based game, levels allways has the biggest meaning. Crafting exist but it's allmost pointless as it cost more to make items than you get from selling them. So, game is basicly quest driven PvE game. I would also say it's pretty fast to level and very little grinding. Games graphics engine isn't so good, I mean it looks okey, but is little heavy for computer.

Ryzom, is P2P game. This is more like PvE and PvP game. Has both side and PvP happens more like zone and GvG wars. You can solo there alot and it's has extreme amount of grinding. Meaning that there isn't really much of quests. Crafting side has high meaning into the game, because every gear is pretty much player made.  I don't think anyone has yet leveled all skills to highest levels past few years the game has exists. I would say this game fits players who like to material harvesting, crafting and grinding. The combat side is little boring in higher level. Skills can be customized, so it allows little variety.

I reccomend changing FFXI's crafting degree to Deep - as it requires a lot of work and knowledge of the worlds mechanics - Unlike others it has been grouped with where you have "recipies"  and listed materials needed with no chance of failure etc.

It's quite advanced/deep - if not harsh aswell.
