Calling all ex-DAoC players...

DarklighterDarklighter Member UncommonPosts: 25

I'm currently looking for any and all who used to play Dark Age of Camelot and who would like to see that game return to it's former glory. I plan on starting a rally to get as many players as I can on my list. What I want to do is gather a list of a good number of players(over a thousand preferably) who would be willing to migrate to DAoC all together and get the server numbers up again. I have been playing this game since it came out, off and on, and I have to say it's the best and my favorite MMO.

This is just my preliminary posting for now to see if I can get a decent response. Just send me an email if you MIGHT be interested: daoc_revival@live.com

P.S. I'm looking for any players who really want to get serious and help me out with this to form a team to make sure things get done. Thanks!

EDIT: Forums is up and running. Check them out here.

We are also now on MySpace. Click here to check it out!

*NOTE* Please refer to my post on page 7 for a VERY important update!

I'd be willing at least to join you for a month if you got this going. I've never really played DAoC other than the free trial which bored me because I had no one to fight alongside.

So here is a bump for you.

If you are serious about this then you might want to make a website and a way to coordinate people.

    Good Luck!

I've never played it before, was always tied up in EQ, but have recently been wanting to download the trial and check it out.  I will be downloading the trial tomorrow and we will see how i like it.

Currently Playing: Toying around with AoC and bored with Darkfall

Thinking of Playing: Fallen Earth or Darkfall after this months update.

Have Played: EQ1, EQ2, WoW, WAR, Vanguard, EvE, Requiem, PW, Lotro, Lineage2, AoC, SWG...

I'd love to join you. I only played DAoC for a very short while, as the game was already a ghost town when I started. I loved what I saw, but there was just no one to play with. If people play again, I'd definitely come back.

I'd join, but you'd have to organize this better than just making posts on the forum to get over 1000 people.

    Oh...a quick question...

would we be playing on a classic or ToA server?

I assume Classic, but just for the record...

    Classic or ToA?

I played for about 2 and  half years then left when Warhammer cam out because most of my guild left and because of the crazy inbalance in RvR (I played Hib), I am now playing EQ2 and really enjoying it but DAOC is really my prefered game if the numbers come back up.  While the graphics may not be as uber as WAR or some of the other new games I don't think it can be beat for overall play and community.

If the numbers can be brought back and if Mythic puts just a little bit of effort into it DAOC can be and will be my game of choice again.  I also think you should put up a web site to promote this idea, hopefully it is not to late to breathe new life into a great game.

I recently resubbed after a very long  break (8 years) and am having a great time playing again.

I hope you are succesful. I would love to see DAOC get healthy again. A noob guild would be great, since it seems hard to find a good guild that is noob friendly nowadays.

    Good Luck.

    Currently Playing: DAOC Uthgard

Previously Played: UO, DAOC, Shadowbane, AC2, SWG, Horizons, COX, WOW, EQ2, LOTRO, AOC, WAR, Vanguard, Rift, SWTOR, ESO, GW2.

Ive tried DAOC recently but it ran like crap. Now I dont have the most powerfull computer but I can run Crysis on Low/Med settings without a problem. DAOC is too hardcore for my machine apparently..

I wager many will come back to classic, but not ToA.

If I may suggest. An event on Pendragon (The test server).

    • By doing it on Pendragon, huge numbers of players wont have to resubscribe but use the 10 day trial.
    • You can then all log onto pendragon and insta level to 50 as well as get gear , money, mounts, etc.
    • That way, no leveling/grinding time....everyone heads out into the frontiers and start having fun on Day #1.

JUst a thought from an old Pendragon DAOC PLayer

    Torrential DAOC (Pendragon)

    Oh, and BTW: DIE HIBBIES!

So if you went back to DAoC...what realm/race/class would you play?

I know I wouldn't play Albion. I really like the idea of the Thane class, so I would try that, but the Champion class in Hibernia sounds cool too.

Elf if Hib, Norseman if Mid.

My wife and I actually considered re subbing the other day. We however since TOA is so much easier now thought of the big TOA cluster. I would like to hear more people thinking so, as we would love to play the best damn game ever made again.

  • patheimathospatheimathos Member Posts: 1

If you get a solid group of enough people, I'm definitely in!

  • LeucentLeucent Member Posts: 2,371

The hardest thing for us is we have to literally play Mid, well I think so anyways. Whenever I played another realm I almost felt bad killing Mids lol.

I just want to point something out. I'm not negative to your idea ..on the contriary but i do feel like pointing a few things out of importance.

If you cannot fill up the newbie areas you will never get any sustainable number of players. Having old players return only to do /level 30 then what would you do after a month when they realize it's been there done that.

No what you need is to fill up the lowlevel hunting grounds and lowlevel battlegrounds again. The reason for this is very simple. Unless you do this you will not have an influx of new players. I 100% believe without new players you won't have any sustainable numbers for more than a month or two if you are aiming at old players only. There are many reasons for that.

New players trying DaoC for the first time will be instantly turned off they can't find any groups until they get to darkness falls. That the game is completely empty at lowerlevels in particular battlegrounds. I have around long enough to know this as fact.

If you can fix the problem of an empty grouping gap between level 1-30 then you have a good shot at succeeding. Otherwise i think you will fail before you even get started.

DAoC remains my favorite game of all time, I put 4 1/2 years into it.

But really, nothing can be done about the low population. I look at the numbers on the Herald and I see like 180 players for the 4 servers combined - I was in a guild with nearly that number in the golden days ( pre-TOA ).

I recognize that while I'll always have a space for this game in my heart, it's one of the MMO's that really needs a fair-sized population to work, and that just isn't going to happen.

    Bummer.

The one cluster gets 1500-2100 during prime time. Sure not like the old days where Guinevere was 3000+ alone but it will make for some good times again. I think it would be hard though. I know alot of people playing WAR that would love a station access type thing. It couldn t hurt anyways.

I played DAOC for over 5 years and share your fond memories and some pain over what Mythic has and has not done. My thoughts :

-DAOC is a still online but a  virtually dead game. The people who support it try to hide this fact.It  is its probably the same game you left and the reasons you left will become aparent soon after you  log  in.

-I believe in rewarding companys who try hard to please their customers and deliver great content and constantly strive to make it even better.Mythic gave up on this game a LONG time ago.The deserve absolutely no reward of our hard earned money for this behavior.

    There ya go...my  2 cents .

sorry but playing on pendragon is fucking retarded

you will never get 1000 people back to daoc

It is an option. I played on Pendragon exclusivly, was a blast . It offers certain advantages players may jump at. Teleporters, dont worry about grinding or gold. Just have fun.

    /bump

I would definately be interested in the prospect of a Dark Age of Camelot revival and so would our guild Femmes Fatales. In fact I recently started a thread that prompted the possibility of DAoC and some good suggestions were given about what would be needed to guarantee minimal success. I talk to Paul Barnett regularly on myspace and it would be good to run it past him

thanks for pushing the concept forward.

IMO, no MMORPG to date has a better game design than DAoC. Solid grouping, good PvP, RvR that lets you PvP when you want to, innovative features like Darkness Falls which lets players control the game world.

But, instead of going back to DAoC, can we get a new game with a solid RvR design? WAR was a major dissapointment. Stick with the basics, and upgrade the graphics, start out with some balanced classes so you don't have to nerf them, and it would be a solid game.

It'll be a long time before it happens, so your choices of games that are similar to DAoC are:

    WAR

    DAoC

Actually, the changes made to ToA since it's introduction have made it a LOT easier to get along with, it's now a pretty solid addition to the game, not so much of a tiresome grind without much purpose now. Of course, it's still a bit more pve to do, and it still takes some time, but nowhere near what it once did.

As a player mainly interested in pve though, this doesn't bother me. What bothered me personally was Catacombs. Personal, infinitely repeatable instances, custom tuned to your group... pve grouping in anything but a pre-arranged group, shot dead, right there. Used to love going through the old dungeons of daoc, but now, Mithra's tomb is empty, Keltoi's goblins are having partys etc...
