Will some of you naysayers or just others who think there is a better game please PLEASE tell me whats out now thats better than AoC because I would really like to play it. This is not a rant, I would just really like to know. It will also give me some insite as to what your taste is cause I think AoC, while it is not perfect (What is?), is the best out now.
If your going to say EvE or LoTRO please don't even bother posting I hate both of those so you will have no cred with me. All others are fair game. I would really like to try ther games you suggest.

if you already have a biased view why post this thread? Age of conan has its qualities like other games, I would say Everquest 2 does the whole MMORPG thing better then AoC though, Thats my viewpoint done giving it and you probably wont bother listening to anyone that does post, So like i said why bother?
Probably because like some of us he is fed up with the negative feedback from people who make no logical points.
What makes you say I am biased ... AoC is a good game to me so if there is one better I would like to try it ... I would say thats pretty open minded. I've tried EvE and LoTRO alrdy and don't like those. I did say all else is fair game ... why so negative?
Because your post makes it sound that if a response does not agree with your views and opinions then you won't read it... in fact by saying that EvE and LOTRO "likerstm" have no cred you alienate a large group of possible responders. Probably not what you meant to do but that is how it comes across.
AoC was good and I havent played it since the patch. EQII is good for an MMO experience - it is very traditional though (probably why I like it). DAoC was great. But out of the new games out none have really excited me, and I have played/tried most.

This is because so many people post that a game is bad but don't say what they play that they enjoy. I guess I did start off my post kind of negative but then it hit me that maybe I might get some good suggestions. I've played EQ2 and yes it is a good game ... I still feel my Dredknight is one of the best balence of offense and defense in games today. However I do think AoC is just a little different without breaking the mode of Fantasy MMO's so I enjoy it now. But like I plainly stated, and if there is still any doubt, my purpose here is not to praise AoC it is to maybe find something ppl are playing that they feel is equally as good or better.
BTW why would I not read responses to my own post ... if that were the case ... why start a thread at all?
Personally i went from aoc to vanguard and never regretted a minute of it. I disliked the fragmented fealing i had with aocs world and for some reason it felt a bit plastic. This offcourse is debatable :P However i liked Vanguards world / imersion and story feel, i liked the fact that the world is big and not overcrowded but theres anough people around to play, especially if your in a guild.
Ps: Mabey instead of ranting his question, people could just answer his question? I think its a good one...
A "better" game is highly subjective term.
Personally I think there are far better games out there for sure. Only 2 areas that AoC is in the top-3 is graphics and sound. All other aspects of the game are lacking imo and most players agree with me on this. Sure there are players who love the game but for most veteran mmo'ers there's just too much been-there-done-that.
Your post is funny when you ask people to say better games but they cannot say EvE or LoTRO. For this reason I'm not going to say any names. I wouldn't want to "have no cred with you" now would I?
World of Warcraft.
Game Over.
I have said it before, there is no better game, or worse, out there than AoC, there are games out there with more content and they have been out for a long time, Eve for example has been out for 6 years now and hence it will have a ton more content.
WoW and Lotrol and others have been out longer and have more content and polish as well. Check out AoC in 6 years from now and i am sure it will be comparable to other games of its age.
Its all about what you like in a game, do you like realistic graphics or cartoony? Do you like the list of classes in this game or that game etc. Find the flavour you like and enjoy it, get tired of one flavour and try another and so on.
I do find it odd that when the naysayers do come and slate aoc they never say what game they are playing or what they will play after they leave AoC............
"there's just too much been-there-done-that" As far as i am aware AoC has introduced many things that are not commonly found in other fantasy based MMOs, like the guild cities, keeps, combat and the selection of classes, mounted combat, so although a lot of it is the same with others, ie quests etc, a hell of a lot of it is a break from the run of the mill fantasy based mmo.
So you have tried EVE and Lotro and didn't like them i played Lotro and it was a decent game but just wasn't what i wanted .
I have played Eve for 3.5 years now and still love playing it it has one of the largest learning curves that requires alot of patience hence why alot of people don't want to play it.
I am also Playing Warhammer online even though i wouldn't say its the best game out there it is a very good PVP game but its PVE is lacking.
When i played AoC it was riddled with bugs, its storyline was very interesting and the world felt so completely empty as far as it didn't give me a sence of being apart of the world just visiting..
Now i am waiting for Aion to come out and STO to come around and may try other games.
VG would be a good choice for you to try i went back twice what really erked me was the Crafting Sytem so grindy but the world is beuitful and the quests are pretty interesting if you read them.
Tenbwen
Personally, im having a lot of fun playing Runes of Magic.
AOC is a fun game, and it has a decent mix of pvp/pve.
LOTRO/WOW have much much better pve, both questing and dungeons. It's not even close. Not only do both of those games have more endgame content, but both of them have multiple paths to level up alts. In AOC, if you roll an alt, you will be doing the exact same quests each time.
EVE has far superior PVP. Just the options you have available and the scope of battles. WOW has better pvp mechanisms, moveable seige weapons, fully destructable buildings and combat that plays fast and smooth.
The problem AOC has is it is a blend of pve/pvp, but fails to do either better than WOW. If you are strictly a pve player, then both WOW and Lotro are better, and if you are a pvp player, then WOW and EVE are better. AOC does both better than Warhammer though, the only reason Warhammer is as high subscriber as it is is because it came out after AOC.
The big advantage AOC has is it has much different graphics than WOW, but most players play a game because of content and gameplay rather than screenshots.
This is 100% correct.
Games that LOOK good (like AoC) tend to get a lot of initial sales but fail once the honeymoon is over. This is what happened with Age of Conan.
When a game is all about graphics and lacks in content and gameplay, it's doomed to being a niche game.
I was a closed beta tester for AoC and played it from launch up untill 2 months ago. I loved the Hyborian setting, the graphics and the combat system but I left because although the majority of people are happy about the upcomming changes to the game, I am of the complete oposite opinion.
AoC was sold to me as a game where player skill was everything, gear did not matter. However, Funcom has caved to the demands of the WoW/EQ crowd who think that all MMO's have to be about grinding gear and raiding - NO THANKS! Any game that places an emphasis on gear over skill is a total no-no for me.
What am I playing now? Well EVE for one, but then I have always had my EVE subscription running, even when I was testing and playing AoC. I also recently picked up The Chronicles of Spellborn. So far I am really enjoying TCoS, gear is just cosmetic but can be bolstered to stats of your liking by fitting different sigils, skills can also be boosted by fitting sigils which allows for very good customisation. The combat system is dynamic, different from AoC's but dynamic all the same. Dodging, targeting etc actually work, its not down to dice rolls. The graphics aren't as advanced as AoC's polygon count wise, but the artstyle is fantastic imho and the graphics themeselves are pretty decent.
So to sum up, for me there are two better games on the market atm:
1. EVE (which means my opinion doesn't matter anyway )
2. TCoS
Remember these are only my opinions, and in no way am I saying AoC is a crap game. I think its a great game, I just don't like the direction that Funcom is taking it in.
MMORPG History:
Playing - EVE Online.
Played (Retired) - AO, SWG, MxO, WoW, RFO, SoR, CoX, EQ2, GW, L2, Vanguard, LotRO, AoC, TCoS, Aion.
Favourite MMO - Pre-CU SWG, 3 Years, 4 Accounts, 2 Pre-CU Jedi (1 Pre-9).
Awaiting - Star Wars: The Old Republic, The Secret World, Earthrise.
Everquest 2
Well in the end it comes to the taste but for me( at least for now )better game is WoW.

nop, totally not true. i dont agree with you at all
in gfx and sound AoC is not in the top 3, it is THE top most.
not all other aspects of the game are missing, some stuff is less polished comparing to other mmos which have been out for many years.
For me anyway, there's no better game than AoC out now. It can still do with a bit of polishing and balancing, but as I said, I don't know of better mmorpg on the market now, if the fantasy genre is your thing ofc.
Though I have to agree with an earlier poster who raised the concern of where this game is headed with the upcoming patch. I really enjoy the skill focus of pvp in this game, and wouldn't want for it to just end up as a wow clone.
"nerf rock, paper is working as intended."
- Scissors.

Graphics in Age of Conan are more complex than in any other MMO out there but they are also no very pretty.
There are 2 aspects of graphics in a game. First there is the polygon count and secondly there is how beautiful the graphics are. I think most of the graphics in AoC are just too plain or boring or even ugly.
Had they made Hyboria darker and more evil place, it would have been awesome. But even if they did the graphics perfectly, it still wouldn't make up for bad gameplay and lack of content.

Field of the dead? Especially inside the haunted forest? Isn't that place evil and dark enough for you?
In response to the Op's question I would have to say EVE.
AOC still has alot of grphical bugs that are really annoying for me not to give it my top spot. The game has gotten alot better since ive resubbed to it though.
Played : WOW, LOTRO, COH/COV, EQ2, SWG, and WAR.
Playing EVE Online and AOC.
Wtg for SW:TOR and WOD
I don't want to play EVE because you can't control a person, you just fly around bouncing from rock to rock.

if you mean by boring and plain "realistic" then maybe, AoC could not have the cartoony gfx that other mmos have.
Hyboria is not just a dark place, it is a huge place in time where there are many diffrent places with diffrent atmospheres, making the whole game with the same dark theme is what could make the game boring, there are dark and scary places, you just need to explore.
as for content, that used to be an issue but not anymore, i wouldnt categorize a game where you can easilly lvl your char from 1-80 without having to grind at all as lacking content. on the coutrary, now, while lvling you will find yourself deleting quests.
a game that looks like this on med is not ugly, this is not ugly at all.
maybe the items, gear and clothing are kind of dull and not enough, but thats about it.
i would say EvE too, but only if it was a fantasy game.
i never stoped playing EvE since i started playing it, now i have a 4X mill sp char but EvE does not fullfill my fantasy thirst because of its nature.
and i really would love Funcom to take EvE as a good example instead of baby games like WoW.
Well to me just about every game out there is better than AoC, I played it for about 2 days and it couldn't even hold my attention for the free month. If a game can't grab me right away then chances are it won't ever.
Why don't you just try out some free trials and see for yourself instead of listening to other peoples opinions. I can't even give you a recomendation because im sure you won't like the games that I like.
