Asmodian, but I can foresee the majority going with elyos because they look like humans and most people prefer humans for some weird reason... Tbh I don't think putting humans in a faction based game is a good idea at all because they'll always be in majority. WoW is a very good example of that.
Me and my guild are playing Elyos, after 4 years playing as the badass , "not pretty" faction (Horde WoW and Destruction WAR) we dediced to go for the "good" ones this time, but all in all both factions look really good, dont think there is gonna be any imbalance tbh, even tho for obvious reasons (dark vs light duality) ppl will put labels on the factions there is no "good" or "evil" faction, they all blame eachother for the destruction of the tower and they see the other 2 factions as evil.

I think the WoW case was very specific, Horde did not have any knights in shinning armor, all the characters at the start were non human and that causes a problem, people choose "humanoid" like races because we are humans and thats what we identify ourselves with (this is not to say ppl dont like to play the other races an orc or a troll) but most ppl will choose human, in Aion both races are very human like. Also after WoW introduced Blood Elves the 2 factions pretty much even out.
elyos, mostly because i don't like the asmodian plate armor too much (i am talking about those half circle ornaments everywhere, just not my thing), the tail kinda freaked me out at first but it looks pretty fun on my asmodian priest, so maybe i'll play some asmodian on another server, but certainly no class that uses plate.
Playing both sides in Korean release, I found it increadibly difficult to level an Elyos character beyond the mid teens. But I am a glutton for character animations, if they aren't just right I can't stand to play it. The Elyos side felt like my avatar had a stick jammed up it's neather regions while running and for me that is like nails on a chalkboard.

Although i didn't try the Asmodian side, the elyos just caught my eye for a few reasons: 1. their wings look fucking badass 2. Their starting area just appeals to me more. I like beautiful and epic landscapes rather than dark grottos and such.
This is just my opinion, though i can see tons of people going to Asmodian, just because the "dark side" in most games is more popular (WoW Horde, WAR Destruction).
I really don't know for sure !In fact I like them both but,and because of , I'm still uncertain about which class/career to pick up.So at this early stage,perhaps, my thought is slowly leaning towards the Elyos of Elysea rather than the Asmodians of Asmodae.
If your gonna play Asmo's in the NA/EU retail but are going to play in china until that day comes, I would suggest you roll the other faction. That way it will all be new when its released in NA/EU, and you can scout out the lay of the land of the enemy for future raids.

I know the most difference in the way asmodians an elyos play is "racials."
But i have actually been playing on bei servers. I will write my opinion later on these forums (all good by the way). I am currently subscribed and about to get my wings (the reason i have not written any review yet, i dont have the biggest feature!). But just the beginning area is beautiful for the elyos. Beautiful but down to earth still.
The Elyos is more my prefrence. One of the only reasons i intentionally bought crysis cuz it was so amazing looking (let alone the game was so ridiculously fun).
So obviously the Elyos was my way to go. Pretty scenary, crisp clear water, beatuiful characters.
The asmodian area though, while it was still cool looking was not the same beauty as the elyos (which is the whole point, they are the demon characters) I felt like the beginning quests for the asmodians were a bit more tough (i got the feeling that the asmodians pride themselves on the work and pain that they have been delt from the epic cac, and the developers make you feel that pride very well.)
In the end of course its prefrence, As for me i know i enjoy the scenary of the elyos more.
EDIT: BTW forgot to mention, if you thought choosing which faction you want to play is tough wait till you have to choose your class. I probably stood at that screen for five minutes.
So, when i voted, it was an even split of 43%:43%. I am kind of disappointed since I was leaning towards asmodian since I figured they would be outnumbered; I love being the underdog and pwning all.
Also, Asmodians look BA while Elyos look like pretty boys. eww. lol jk jk pretty boys are fine, just if I was an Elyos, I'd be more concerned with not breaking a nail than bashing in my opponent's face. bahaha
However, I'll still probably sitting for half an hour-ish debating whether an Elyos or Asmodian looks cooler once Aion comes out. XD
While I prefer the Asmodian character looks I will still play Elyos because the Asmodian landscape has this depressing mood. I just like the Elyos lush and beatiful scenery more.

Elyos-es are priss-es =P lol. If I play as an Asmodian w/ depressing landscapes, then the real world will be that much prettier!

Definitely Asmodian. Over the CBT, I played both factions, and everytime I logged on to my Elyos, I felt a little guilty/traitorish

I'm picking the NPC race.
They float around overhead all day in ships waiting to pick their battles while drinking space coffee.
When they finally join in, they pick to help the losing side and they help kick the winner's butts.

Asmodian, I'm tired of playing the race of 'light'. Also the frenzied battle eyes are awesome.

I'll be playing my Asmodian Sorcerer after OB ends into retail but I will reroll Elyos during the NA OB/retail to keep things somewhat new.
