I am currently on the China open beta version of Aion and I think I see a cash shop in there... seriously.
I am worried, I hate cash shop F2P games becasue they always mean that the guy with the most money in real life is going to end up being the best.
I have yet to run into a CS game that is purely cosmetic and never will because they wouldn't make good money if they didnt provide stats and other major advantages to CS users. So I want the game to be P2P for the US and EU. I am reading a lot of rumors about the Koraen version being P2P depending on how much time you actually are spending in the game.
Can anyone verify if this rumor is true?
Can anyone verify if the China version is indeed F2P with cash shop, I think Its what I saw there on one fo the links.

So do you guys know if it will be P2P or F2P in the US or europe...or are they going to bust out a SoE move and make it P2P WITH a cash shop >.<

its pay to play in China...
So it will be pay to play here too I'm betting!
I'd stake 5 llamas on it!
yes 5 whole llamas!
Also how are you still playing the open beta the game went live the 16th I thought?
If it went live on the 16th then It must be Free 2 play >_>
Because I am playing the game right now. All the servers also say Free next to them.
Well they have a payment plan on their website, so I assumed that sine you had to pay for hours of play time that you'd have to actually do that...
I'll try to find you a link.
Edit:
Taken from their website
How much will Aion cost?
We anticipate Aion will be similar to our other subscription-based games, featuring a boxed product and associated subscription fees.
I'll lnk the site in a sec, partying right now ><
From the amounts of money I read thrown around to make that game, no way it's free to play. (around 100 million U.S.)
I cannot confirm it, but the screenies of everything in game I've seen says it wasn't a cheap game to make.
"TO MICHAEL!"
Heres the link

Oh hey how are you playing still I wonder?
like what server are you on?
All I can say is thank god and I hope they don't pull off a smedley on Aion >.<
Your playin the Chinese beta still?
Which server?
It'd be cool if they sorta forgot to lock some... lol
I am playing on Kasaka but all the servers are still available in fact they are all busy atm except 1.
Under which of the first 5 servers?
the 2nd one? or ..?
You can still subscribe and play once the game is live.
And no, the game has no cash shop. The game will be your typical P2P pay model over here, it's pay by the hour for the CN version.
If you make an account for the game you can use this link CN-USA Auto-Refill to get hours. There's a few other places, as well, and a few others that will create and setup your account for a small fee, too.

Legal Chinese Adult Id?
was wondering if this is possible...
A way of obtaining an Adult ID without use of a list or generator (which I wouldn't do, by the way) I haven't found. There is a service based out of China that will create your account for you with a legal ID, and it be legit. Or, if you already have your account made they can just associate a legit ID with it. This would be the best way that I know of for the Adult ID situation.
Create Unlimited AION Account
They are actually cheaper than CN-USA in terms of gameplay hours, too, I just use CN because it's automatic and has heaps and heaps of positive feedback over @ AionSource.com -- however, CN-USA won't offer a solution (legit or not) for the Adult ID problem, EG will.
Are these services legit or are they just also plugging numbers into a generator?
Or are they like taking dead people's Id's?
I mean there are alot of un answered questions...
As far as I know it's legit, from the feedback I've gathered it is.
CN-USA is 100% legit, it just adds game hours to your account and everyone, and I mean everyone that I know has went through them.
Either way if you don't want to worry about any of that and just play the beta, the 3 hour lockout isn't actually a day, you can end up squeezing 6+ hours a day out without suffering from the 50% XP reduction and then the complete cut off if you just don't stay on and actually take beaks; that's I'm doing right now since I'm not playing too often travelling a lot.
Hehe I plan to play the beta as long as I can hopefully get around level 15-20 on the China version before I start playing Aion in the US. I don't want to get to far into Aion in China version becasue If I do I might get tired of it to soon or might not want to leave all my hard work once the US version comes out.
I'm looking forward to it. If it goes F2P, forget it. That quality looks far too high to be a cash shop.
Its p2p in China. they pay by the hour.
The reason your still able (or were still able if thats the case) to play is because they staged different regions to go live. Not all of them went live on the 16th, because not all of them entered OB at the same time.
Here is a list of the regions and when they are going live:
China Central - 16th, 23:58
China South - 17th 6:58
China East - 17th 23:58
China North - 18th 6:58
China East 2 - 18th 23:58
so no, there is no cash shop. Im playing retail right now
"If you want a picture of the future, imagine a robot foot stomping on a human face -- forever."
They're probably just doing smart business: free to play works well in many parts of Asia, while pay to play works better in North America. I wouldn't worry about the business model as much as "do you enjoy the game?"
MMO games played or tested: EQ, DAoC, Archlord, Auto Assault, CoH, CoV, EQ2, EVE, Guild Wars, Hellgate: London, Linneage II, LOTRO, MxO, Planetside, SWG, Sword of the New World, Tabula Rasa, Vanguard, WWIIOL, WOW, Age of Conan
I don't have a problem with this - It is either that or the unemployed or students that can play almost 24/7. Usually its the 'full-time' players that moan most when the actual working community gets a look in.
What's more is that even P2P games are always rife with goldsellers pretty much from release. Clearly there are plenty of people who want a facade of fairness but will happily pay. At least the item shop games or RMT games are a bit more honest. I'm so tired of every player that says they never buy gold and yet I'm always surrounded by sellers.
Finally, there are so many cheaters, botters and hackers that you're wasting your time looking for a level playing field. Invariably the 'best' player is one who is prepared to cheat or exploit.
LOL......gotta love threads like this. OP why do you think just because the China version has a cash shop that the NA/EU version will have one huh? The only NCSoft mmo game here in the NA/EU territories with a cash shop is EX-Steel. Besides it has already been stated that they would go with a buisness model that is on par with other subscription based games.
Chinese version of Aion is not F2P, and i'm 100% sure, it's just that not all the servers finished the OB on the same day, their OB finishes 1 region each day, that means first region servers on day 16, second on 17, third on 18 and so on. At least thats what i read on another forum...
When you launch the game you have to choose 1 region/server or whatever it is, there are 4 or 5 i don't remember and 10+ servers on each one of those 5, so the ones who picked the last region will most likely be able to play until tomorrow or in 2 days.
It has already been said that it will have hour fees, so you have to buy hours instead of a 15$ fee on the chinese version, 62.5 hours are something like 4.40$ or a bit less, so it's impossible that Aion chinese becomes F2P hehe.
There are cash shops, bindings dont work properly, animations are worse than before, grinding is endless!
Downloader take ages.. 500 hours, yippeekiyay.
