Howdy, Stranger!

It looks like you're new here. If you want to get involved, click one of these buttons!

What were some of the most OP classes that you've played/PVP'd against?

IN SWG, I remember in the early days Imperials could take out 3 AT-ST's at one time. Pretty much an "I win button" and a big "Ur F***ed" for us poor rebels. But we were gonna get Jedi pets (that was a pretty weak rumor) to fight them with!

In Vanguard, Bear Shamans would be medium armor (yet they could mitigate damage as well as a plate wearer) and their DPS rivals many of the pure DPS dealers.

Please mention the game and how they were OP. I have no clue as to what game you're talking about ;D

EQ2- Shadowknights are op at the current state.

    1) Plate Tank- so they can mitigate a ton

    2) They can heal themselves

    3) They have almost a 1 shot type of spell (high damage with short recast), also overall they can dps like crazy

    4) They can feign death

    5) I think they can also evac- cant remember

    6) For the most part they can pretty much solo tough mobs even multiple mobs that no one can in the game.

    WoW- Warlocks/rogues

    Ragnarok Online- Wizards/Hunters

Age of Conan- Tempest of Set

For me, it was infiltrators in DAOC. Honestsly every stealther class in most MMOs are overpowered if they are combined with huge burst damage

burst damage + stealth == overpowered no matter the MMO.

    DAoC: Bonedancers.

Christ they were a fucking pain, can't recall how many times a single bonedancer would manage to take out groups of 2-4 people if not entire groups.

I though Light enchanters were pretty good, so long as I could stay out of melee range, which was easy with pet that can snare, I could stun down an enemy within a few seconds of nuking.

    Bard in EQ1

Those who have played EQ already know where I am going with this. Beastmasters were pretty kick-ass as well, but I never played one. I won't even go into details, it is one of those "you had to have been there" to know how kick-ass Bards were in EQ1.

ToS (Temptest of Set) at the initial Launch of AoC.

And you know what it felt good for once to play an over powered HEALER class. Im used to getting shafted by every mmo for playing a healer class. Since then, they made alot of improvements and balance in AoC, so it is no longer as KICK ASS as it used to be, but thats ok  :)

Tauren Shaman in WoW at the initial Launch of WoW.

Initially I was going to play a mage like I did in beta but they removed the invisible "pyro blast from hell" combo (thank goodness, it was OP) so intead I went with Shaman. For quite a few months I started noticing how OP the class was compared to others.

    WoW - rogues

City of heroes - Stalker (aka rogue)

Pretty much any MMO with a stealth class. They are always overpowered trash. Why does every MMO must have frakking stealth? Even EVE. WTB original idea for MMOs. Darkfall only MMO i know of that has no stealth

    DDO Bard and Wizard

(Bard) As a bard you can fascinate an entire room of players and then just cast Hold Person or otto's resistable dance on them and beat them till they die and they cant even fight back.

(Wizard) They have a one shot death spell...need I say more?

WoW Holy Pally Pre-Wrath and Warlocks any given day

(Pally) Bubbles bubbles bubbles and a shield plus near un-interuptable healing and mana pots with redoubt...enjoy

(Warlock) *Fear dot dot dot*  *Fear shadow bolt* then a death coil (technicly not a fear so no diminishing return *coughbullshitcought* dot dot dot....dead*

    Rogue in EQ1

Watched my buddy duel and rogue and come up with the ultimate way to shut one down *put his back up against a tree* The rogue promptly walked behind the tree and Backstabbed him through the tree = (

EVE does stealth very well, and it fits in game immersion.

I agree with Stalkers though, however, they weren't OP as much as they made the whole PVP experience too repetative. It's 90% of PVP is waiting for a Stalker to pop out and chase him as he runs. Boring. PVP in COH would have been much more fun and epic without stalkers 1 move. They do this one assasinate move from very low level to max. Boring no skill class of all imo.

There were very simple things to defeat and make useless stalkers. That's the problem with a one trick pony.

almost any class can be considered overpowered or under powered just depends on the the person's view.

me personally i always felt hybrid classes were a little overpowered

Well lets see... going to be a few here that I would consider "tied".

Creature handling dragon tamers in UO with magery... just... man whatever :).

Early Creature Handlers in SWG ( I had one, was able to tame an ancient rancor before they nerfed it, these things killed ATSTs in 2-3 hits).

DAOC early release, midgard healers and hibernian enchanters.

WoW... any undead... especially if you played an alliance warlock shortly after release.

    Bright wiztards, warhammer.. ugh.

My worst experience with OP classes was in VG:SOH.  One of the patches totaly over powered the druid class.  As a level 50 monk with good gear, a level 14 druid could bring my HP down to 15% or even kill me (if somehow he got the jump).  I remember that being completely frustrating.  I hope by now it has changed.

WoW - Hunter or warlock. Used to play a hunter, and, boy, they were awesome. Never played a warlock, but hated them on my hunter. Piece of cake with my undead rogue, though.

EQ - Cleric - This one class had a stranglehold on EQ for years, and years. Can't do anything without a cleric. Far too many people, me included, just gave up trying to find a player cleric, and created heal bots.

DAoC - SM or again a healer class. SM's pet took hits for them, and they could lifetap. This was post-toa. I thought the game was pretty balanced before that( far fewer people botted, also). Can't say I hated going up against any one class before toa turned casters into gods, and melee into dirt. Without a druid/cleric/healer you weren't going to RvR. The only class that couldn't be left out.

WAR - Really no complaints about class balance. Only played 1.5 months, though.

Those were the only three MMOs I've put enough time into to be knowledgable about every class.

    Ooh, they've been a couple.

Death Knights in WoW .. plate-wearing self-healing tanks with sky-high DPS .. when the Wrath of the Lich King expansion first launched, these guys were seriously OP and have only recently been spanked with the nerf stick.

Resto Druid in WoW .. pre-nerfs, the undisputed king of the 2v2 arena healers.

Bright Wizards and Witch Elves in WAR .. haven't played for a while but at launch these two classes cut through opponents like hot knives (appropriately) through butter.

Guardians in AoC; with a full set of +damage gems, they were cheerfully capable of one-shotting any other class in the game.

    Melee dps in EQ1

I sorta got obsessed with the wizard class when the game first launched.  I saw nothing but damage spells and the oh so unreliable root spells and thought wizards would be damage kings.  Haha.  When parsing programs became available it was pretty sad how badly beaten wizards were by, well, just about everybody.

My old defense-stacking, Teras Kasi Master in SWG.

I simply couldn't be hit. Not by other players. Not by mobs. Not by anything. And anyone or thing I'd hit would spend the remainder of their short-lived health bars lying on their ass while I pummeled their face.

    It was stupidly overpowered.

LOL.  That brought back a memory.

My character was a defence stacking, dot wielding, war-crying pikemen.

They couldn't hit me due to the defense stacking.

I would then lay my 20s war cry on them, so they couldn't even try to hit me that whole time.

Then the pike dots would just tick away, which mitigated their defense stacking (would only have to hit them a minimum of times).

    Hilarious.

Tempest of Set were anoying in aoc because for some reason they could just insta kill ANYTHING they encountered.

as for daoc i played all three realms and they all had their overpowered and underpowered classes.

My personal dislike was always the minstrel i dont know why but more minstrels would pop out of stealth wearing chain hit insta stun you would then be ganked by his stealther buddies.

    Earth and Beyond

Progen Sentinel - fear kiting jerks with high dmg...

    SWG-

TKA + anything - knockdown dizzy much?

Commando- Come on, how can anyone forget the naked wookiees like me running around with a 2.1k dps 89% wound chance flamethrower and i would give you a complete health bar of wounds with 1 hit.. Also, only class in ANY current MMO that was SOOO bugged they could give you more wounds then you had health. Nothing like a guild having an event to try to drag there guild leader from the hospital to the med center so he could play again.

    WoW-

Hunter- people want to go old school with some of these comments at release a 60 hunter could 1 shot 3 targets with multi shot.

Paladin- At one point or another through there entire career in WoW they have been OP at one point or another.

    EQ2-

Bruiser- Something fun yet OP about being able to kick folks off an expansion land...

Fury/warden - Fast runspeed, high damage, heals.... it was just all bad

    Warhammer Online

Bright Wizard - Come on the AoE's and there damage is just nuts...

DoK/WP- healers who wear medium armor take hits amazingly well, deal high amounts of damage and can heal like SoB's.... just a bad idea...

    Age of Conan

Tempest of set.... what can i say, any healer when can CC you and have you dead before you break it is a bit OP much less the 1 shot spec.

    Vanguard

Cleric- mid damage, high survivability, amazing heals....

Basically any game that has ever made a decent damage healer that wears heavy armor is just asking for issues...

  • giggalgiggal Member UncommonPosts: 120

sounds like the heretic before they finally sorted out the insane damage. Yes i rolled one on Mordred with a minstrel buddy. OMG that was an overpowered team, insta stun + focus dot = dead in under 5 seconds :D

What about shadowblades that could use a 2h weapon too?

Anyway, stealthers are usually quite op and it was quite annoying in daoc that they would even attack tanks. Heck, they are supposed to have stealth so they could pick their targets but they were so op that they could attack anything!

Savages and bonedancers were quite op for some time too in daoc and I bet minstrels should have been quite op with all their tricks.
