Wow, very impressed from what I have seen on youtube with this game. Didn't know NCSoft was this talented. Game looks amazing from all angles. Can't wait for it to hit the US. This is more than a WOW Killer. Would be sad to compare the two.  Looks like somebody finally got it right. Finally a next Gen MMO that isn't garbage (cough cough AOC). Hopefully they market it well and it will be a huge successs. Im sold. Has a US date been announced?

I can assure you, from personal experience ingame, that this is not a next-gen title from a long shot. AOC is much more of a "next-gen" title than Aion. Aion is very similar to most of the MMOs on the market now, save the aerial combat, just  extremely polished, fluid, and just feels.. right.

Nothing next-gen about this title, tho.

I agree with this.  Its not next-gen.  Graphically, its not the best.  Other than flight with wings and aireal combat, its all the same as others.....except that.....It is fun and feels good.

Thats the problem with most MMO's.   they try to copy WoW or EQ or etc, but they leave out one small IMPORTANT piece. Somehow, their game just isnt that fun.  Gets boring.

Aion (in the short time I have been able to play it) has the makings of a fun game.  I am playing the chinese retail and so far have started 3 different classes, because each is fun to play and plays a bit differently from the others.

Dude, it's all about the quality seen in youtube videos this day in age.

Even if you watched the videos in 1080p, it still doesn't look next-gen, and neither do the features. It's still an auto-attack game.

    Medafor,

Go to www.Aionsource.com and check out the community and things it has to offer.  Make the decision your self as to whether the game looks good or not.  Don't listen to the nooobs and haters that are going to flame anything that comes across this thread.

IMO, I am looking forward to playing it when it comes out.  Maybe I will see you in game.

lol, did you even bother to read any of the replies?

I have done nothing but praise this game. But there's nothing next-gen about it. Everyone knows it, it plays the same as every other game out. Is stating a well-known and accepted fact flaming?

The game is great, it has the potential to be huge in NA and I've already purchased two pre-orders. But there's nothing next-gen about it.

The PvPvE system is next-gen IMO.  As well as many of it's Stigma features.  It has many more things that just that. Medafor go to the site I listed and check it out.

I think there's something next gen about this game:

Performance vs graphics. While the graphics engine isn't the most powerful thing ever, the graphics quality is incredible, the views are nice to the eye and the resources to fool the eye while being light on the computer's load are a master work.

I think the upcoming games should look into this formula from now on if they want to keep a massive enviroment without sacrificing graphical quality, and, being that Aion is the standard on that field, I'd say it has advanced on what we had. That's what I consider next gen.

Oh, games should also look into the ammount of polish aion had at release, not sure if that's next gen, but companies should try to do that from now on.

I only have a few mmos that I am looking forward to the release of to see how they turn out, and Aion is one of them. It looks very good and it has a few unique elements in addition to the flying. I just hope when it is completed and finially released that it is very pollished otherwise the bad response at launch could cripple its future.

In addition to Aion I am also waiitng for more info on another NCSoft game, Blade and Soul. The video that was releases last year with the fast paced combat that made it look like a fighting game, and the wall running got me excited. I really cannot wait to see more on it and am looking forward to finding out how it plays more than any other game.

I guess I have to give credit to a 3rd NCSoft and Arenanet game, Guild Wars 2. I played the first GW and didn't really enjoy it too much because of all the instancing, but the new one seems like they are making it a more open world. If they make a nice open world without subscription fees they will be some tough competition.

NCSoft has been busy, lets hope that with all their games in developement they are able to keep up the quality.

Very valid points!  I agree 100%

thanks for the link guys, will check it out. i correct myself on that ittle bash towards AOC, looks like the game has done a 360 since gaute left. graphics wise the game looks incredible. i have been a 3d artist for 10 years, I no what to look for. the videos on youtube are at  high enough res to make that decision, hehe. i am not the biggest fan of WOW, but I would say it is a great game. its sub numbers should make that obvious. going to checkout  aionsource right now, thanks guys.

Ok, maybe Aion doesen't have any next-gen features. But the features it does have are good, and well executed.

  • UOvetUOvet Member Posts: 514

Is Aion next-gen? No, then again are any of these "next-gen games" truely next gen? Not reallly. Aion does get it though. You can have all these super duper next gen features but if you can't execute does it really matter? Let's be honest here..MMOs haven't evolved too much from the days of EQ and such.

Your spot -on Synthetick,  Not next gen but a hell of a lot of fun to play with very few if any bugs. Guess it all comes down to personal taste as always in regards to mmo's.

While i do not think this is a new gen mmo, i think it might take things to the next lvl. Combat, auto attack? Hm even saying wow combat system is simple, it gets harder if you want to master it especially in pvp. Anyone who has watched noone pvp videos knows what i am talking about, very fast reflexes, positioning and footwork while controlling the camera at the sametime and using the right actions.

Current MMO formulas can t work well in the future? In my opinion they can, what is important is how they are presented, to make a long story short, the current mmo standard can be a very funny and even demanding some skills from a player or it can be a bore and not exciting in any way.Aion seems to be going the right way to be a fun and polished in these regards, the combat system seems to be going in the right way, very fluid as well. Seeing videos like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bM0IVhtBCzA&hd=1 makes me think the combat is evolving to fighting games (like soul calibur) wich is a big plus in an mmo.

I saw nothing that had evolved in that combat at all. Movements looked the same as nearly every game  before it except for the fact that the characters themselves spin, flip, rotate, and sling their arms around  at faster than normal speeds. So faster combat animations are considered evolving now? The only potential skill that I may have saw in that video was the ability to look past the overdone combat effects. Special effects are cool in moderation, but not every potential customer has ADHD.

If you want different combat, try playing a different genre of game, a hack n slash, a FPS or something. why do people always say this about new MMO games. MMOs are suppose to have the auto attack style of combat, click attack style. AOC combat was so annoying, didnt even feel like an MMO, was like a hack n slash online only without a joystick.

kind of curious of what every1 in here is thinking next gen is? Think theres a lot of people out there that have the misconception of finding something thats cutting edge in mmo's. You will never experience the same feeling for the first game that u fell in love with in this genre of games. What aion does, well i would believe it to be the next generation of mmo's out there if it is successful. The game is presented well, the gaming experience is done nicely. Im not sure if there will be nething closer to a next gen however, there is only so much u can do with games, and i really hate when people say its a copy of another. Truth be told every game would be a copy  :P

I have played it. Nothing next gen about it.

I might be good, buts just a Lineage2/FF/Wow clone.

  • gthreenogthreeno Member Posts: 36

Any game that releases as a polished, fluid, and is well optimized for preformance is next-gen as far as I'm concerned, because I haven't had that since.... I don't even know.

  • Ulrick28Ulrick28 Member UncommonPosts: 73

I am playing it (Level 18 spiritmaster) and I love it.  The animations are top notch.  It's not grindy at all (so far I've gotten my xp from quests).  The graphics are very well done.  The sound is well done.  I really like how alive the world feels with all the fauna running around in it.

The flight mechanic (when used) is pretty cool.  Sub level 25 flight is a very very small part of the game though.  Grouping has been fun so far (I am lucky to be in an all english speaking guild).  It's odd that people are comparing this to lineage 2.  To me it feels more like a LOTRO meets WoW with a tiny bit of L2 graphical look.  Combat wise/Grinding wise it's about as far from L2 as you can get.

The idle animations are great (I love when your standing in water).  I also like the visual effects as you get upgrades to your spells.  There is a LOT of polish in the game so far (the sorcerers portals look awesome).

I'm curious to see what the US/Euro Aion release will have compared to the Chinese version since they are working on it for so long, I'm guessing more polished translation and maybe voice acting, besides that I wonder..

  • FastTxFastTx Member UncommonPosts: 756

I heard it would be English/Spanish/French translated. Nothing confirmed though. I don't mind them taking so long to release the game here, it looks great, by the end of the summer we will see our version of a beta, except there will be nothing to test. The game runs beautifully in China. If anything people want more, not enough content so hopefully there will be more content available by the release.

French, German, English and maybe next year have a Spanish version for Central & south America.
