Can some one take them to the crazy farm already!!!!

Well if they are just testing the technology of their platform for the ability to use microtransactions thats fine if they want to. As long as they don't put it in Champions Online I don't care what they do with it.
If they put microtransactions in Champions Online then I will not be playing it.
Hello, Yes and Goodbye.
The only speculation I can make about that article is that Cryptic might have microtransactions as a backup plan incase their monthly subscription business strategy fails. Sort of like an insurance policy strategy. But still, if it does fail to get the number of subscribers they are shooting for, microtransaction business model could also fail thereafter. I guess it's like a "plan b" strategy, plan C being total failure/server shutdown ofc.
Who know how this game will play out in the end.
It isnt a big deal necessarily IMO. I dont think the microtransactions will be like those in F2P games. CoH already has them in the form of costume packs (you can buy some rare costume parts though their online store). While these technically count as microtransactions, it doesnt bother me because it has no affect on game play. And because their existing (free) library of costume parts is already so vast.
If Champions follows that same model, I will be ok with it.
If they do it on more of a scale like NC Soft does with optional content and powers i don't think it would a bad thing. But if its more of "OMG you need this to be better" then count me out and gimme my DC Universe
Disturbing to hear, but just because they uncovered a error message in the game doesn't mean the release will have it.
Or perhaps it's a back-up mechanic as was earlier mentioned.
From the article:
I'm with Jack.
Frankly, after spending 3 and a half years playing CoH, then going back a couple times, most recently for the free half-week for ex-players, I find I detest the whole microtransaction stuff. It was like going back to the Shakeys Pizza Parlor I ate at every week as a kid, and finding a taco salad pizza buffet instead of waiters in striped vests.
I'm sorry, I want to put my payments onto a credit card on a periodic basis, and have absolutely no reminder about real-world money when I log into a game. I want to earn whatever make-believe swag I have in a game by my actions IN that game. I don't even like Conan's special loot for buying from certain stores, or picking up special magazine issues.
If $15 a month isn't enough to cover the costs of a game, then make it $16. Since I'm head of a multi-gamer household it gets a bit pricey around here when you add up all the accounts that come out of the same pocket... but I used to pay between $100 and $300 a month playing games on GEnie, so I think I can swing $20 for an exceptional gaming experience. Heck, I can swap a single dinner out for grilling burgers at home and cover that expense once a month.
It astounds me that subscription prices have pretty much been between $12 and $15 a month for the past decade plus some, and a lot of gamers have this strange belief that the games should get better, and the prices lower. Well, the world doesn't work that way, and I'd rather see an honest increase in prices, than the individual transaction nonsense that turns an escapist past-time into a cheesy virtual swap meet.
F2P should be dependant on the microtransaction/item malls cause thats their only source of income. Not sure if CO has stated what the monthly fee will be but i'm thinking it'll be within the average.
It is a wait and see still but if they put in rmt and if I have to buy something in order to compete with other players then I won't be buying the game. I won't have a problem with it if it turns out to be purely cosmetic.
Something tells me that you will be far more dissapointed in what ends up in DC Universe with micro transactions.
I don't think anyone's said the prices should get lower, and frankly the games haven't gotten better. WoW is EQ1 with a coat of paint and better marketing, and Darkfall has half the features of its supposed spiritual predecessor UO, which pre-dates it by ten years.
$12-15 sounds about right for essentially the same games I was playing in 1999.
The one thing the people all over the intarwebz seem to be missing from that article is that it's something that Cryptic is doing. Note something Cryptic is doing FOR Champions Online.
In other words, adding it in and not needing it FOR THIS GAME is better than having to patch it into their other games they may make down the road. This way it is part of their basic MMO platform so if they decide to make a Microtransaction game they can easily do so.

Apply that logic to the rest of life, and why are you paying more for fast food, paperback books, automobiles, clothes, and movies than you were in 1999?
All I'm saying is that IF they need more income per player to run a game, I wish they'd just increase the subscription fee, rather than look for cheesy ways to try and scrape up spare change... ie. microtransactions.
