Because its different  to practically all other mmorpgs in terms of levelling. In runescape you can be a mage archer or warrior whenever you want, there is no chance of messing up your stats  because you can only go higher. Ease of use is of course a big plus, playing in your browser. The new clan chat is great because the chats with the highest level players always have lots of people on, its like a giant chat room. Of course rs HD is a great thing. Balanced holiday events that can in no way kill you or are too hard.

In games like maplestory their idea of a holiday event is to pepper the land with really aggressive level 20 or so monsters with a low rate of hit back that drop items that can be traded :/

It is probably one of the safest mmorpgs out there, bots have been strategically removed from the game (at the expense of many players of course).

    Greetings :D

That is false according to Runescapes own charts on their cooperate site. There was a hardly noticeable drop in programs that access their site, but a large drop in actual players that access their site. not including dual accounts. Programs access their client in a different way than actual players and they track it. On their own cooperate data it shows that there was not a significant drop in those programs accessing their site from before their update, no only actual players. Now you just have higher level bots because they are selling entirely stocked accounts and being paid to train players accounts for them. They actually are spending more time on runescape now than before because it takes longer to to fully stock accounts , and train higher levels than it did before just to sell the gold.  The difference is how they are botting, not the lack of bots themselves.

If they truely wanted to remove the bots they would just block any program that tries to access their client. Problem solved. But that would be too easy

    good things about rs

    1. it is web browser

2.constant update, as in more than monthly

3.unlike in many other mmos, you dont need to constantly spend money for clothing. just 6 bucks each month can buy u unlimited clothing (unless u ran out of money in the game). members also have a much better game play- clue scrolls, mini games, full screen mode, your own house to construct, more quests, never-before-seen monsters in free to play, bigger bank, a larger world to explore, pets and more!

4.quests arnt just "kill this, kill that" or "collect this, collect that" what is the difference with just killing mobs- all you get is a little more exp, but it is still boring to do the same thing again and again. instead, runescape's quest has a story line to it!

5.you can be a mage, archer, or warrior at the same time and change your race(or watever it is called), gender, skin color, default clothing, etc. now u dont need waste time creating millions of accounts to try different races

6.there are other skills to do and level in runescape instead of combat, for example: farming, cooking, fishing, mining, smithing, summoning, wood cutting, aglity, runecrafting, hunting, fishing, cooking and much much more.

7.most games usally offer less space for your items

8.i really like how the clothing in this game doesnt have striping clothing ;)

9.they have pretty good service. i know that they took away wild PVP and freedom of trade, but if they dont, then the gold farmers will use more stolden credit cards and will cause the game a 'you know what'. how do they have good service? well, when everyone tells them to do something about the bots, the did something. it killed a lot of botting. then people wanted pvp, then they made PVP worlds. finally, there are a lot of customer service. i would had asked a question yesterday, and it would be answer today or tomorrow (comparing to maple story, they take a week a 3 days to answer my question).

10.finally, the game is fun. why? because there are a lot more to do than killing monsters. with over 100,000 people playing each day, how would it be boring? the reason why i dont play games with less people is because there isnt anyone to talk to. bored of training? then play mini games. bored of mini games? then do quests. bored of doing quests? go PK. lost a PK (lol)? design your house or train other skills.

Good enough, but there are some mistakes and misinformation that you can revise.Anyway, what I can say is , its good for the first time MMORPG player or something like that. You know the drill. Newbs go out to explore, then make money after. With the amount guides out there both on utube and on fansites, this game is like a wasteland compared to the rest of the MMOPRGs out there.

One thing I know that it is monotonous(a term used by WoW fans to describe RS), which means its good for kids.

I agree with 1-8 but 9-10 are really off.  Their customer service is among the worst in the industry. Sure they will answer little questions , easy questiong but ask them something important and do not expect an appropriate response.  They have been known to be very rude to customers. I have never known them to accept responsibility for their own mistakes, such as an overcharge to an account, such as double billing. No they are not good when it comes down to it. If they wrongly ban someone they refuse to discuss it, with that person or with anyone else and if you attempt to ask them about it they will threaten to ban your account as well. For example when they wrongly banned my friend who was an English teacher they refused her appeals  and refused to listen to her or her students when they tried to explain the situation. She was accused of real world trading for giving her students free things in the game. She never received anything for these items, it was just kindness. I have seen them ban a guy who gave out 20 santas when he was leaving to friends and not only did they ban him, they banned everyone he gave presents to. I have seen them ban a grandmother for giving armor to her grnadson and then muted him because he was talking about it.

The truth about their customer service is this, If  you create an account, spend years on  that account, you can lose that account even if you obeyed all of the rules in the game without cause. Your account is not infact yours at all, it is the property of Jagex ltd and they reserve the right to do what they please with it. If they wrongly ban you, they do not accept that they are capable of making mistakes and will refuse to discuss it. I myself am not banned, but have witnessed the wrongful banning of many good players over the years.  Their customer serives is piss poor in comparison to customer service offered by games such as guild wars, where they actually charge less per year than Runescape membership. If large  games like guild wars can offer decent customer service, there is no excuse for Jagex not being able to.

As for being fun, there are no rewards for your levels. The game is all click on item get item put item in bank repeat with all the skills, with everything in the game. There is nothing hard or challenging in runescape, it is just time consuming. Though they give this process different names or skill slots it is still the same action over and over an over again. And when you finally max out  all skills, and do all the quests you are left feeling disappointed for your efforts. That is not fun, that is boring.

Yes runescape has it's ups and downs but i think it would be better  if there wheremore things.

things like: horses as a faster form of transportation.

    more clothes.

    perhaps better graphics?

Bahahahahahahahahahah, yeah, who wouldn't want to cut wood for hours to buy armor? Or fish in the same spot for hours? Or click on the same set of rocks for hours? Or run back and forth between a furnace and bank? Or teleport back and forth between a house and bank to "make" a house? Who the hell wouldn't want to run the same agility course 100s of times for mediocre rewards?

SRSLY GUYS, RUNESCAPE SOUNDS LIKE FUN! AUTO ATTACK PEWPEWPEWPEW...

Can't believe I used to play that shit they call a game.

Amen. I couldn't agree more. I don't see Runescape doing any public ads.WoW gets alot of attention via the media. WoW also gets a lot of customers/players through its artistic designs on the game box, and game videos that seduce the customer to buy it.

I definitely with you on this one.  I don't think a fantasy game need to be 20 gigabytes of machine halting pixel filters.  However, the graphics update put more emphasis on appearence which exacerbates the look alike problem.  There might be hundreds of things to wear in Runescape, but there are only a handful of things to wear that are worth wearing.  So you end up with dozens of people that all look the same everywhere you go.  I always wanted to wear my black or white armour, but it's absolutely useless as armour.

2.constant update, as in more than monthly

Constant change isn't an aspect of greatness.

You lumped several things into 3 however, I'll address each of them in turn.  Spending money on clothing, not really sure what you mean here, everything costs money in Runescape, even changing the basic outfit that is always covered up anyway.

The second part you just name a few things that members have access to that free players don't.  Freeplay is basically an extremely limited trial that never ends.  I think other games do players a much better service by letting them play all or most of a game but for a limited time.  Pirates of the Burning Sea, for example, allows players to do nearly everything the game has to offer for 14 days.  For 2 weeks you are playing the same game as everyone else and can really judge if you like it or not.

4.quests arnt just "kill this, kill that" or "collect this, collect that" what is the difference with just killing mobs- all you get is a little more exp, but it is still boring to do the same thing again and again. instead, runescape's quest has a story line to it!

Wrong, plain and simple.  First, many quests have a slayer level requirement, therefore to even be able to do those quests you have to do MANY HOURS of go kill this, go kill that.  Also, quite a few of the quests are specifically go kill this list of things and bring back their remains.  While I'll agree that some quests are entertaining, almost all the quests rely heavily on the "go talk to so and so" component.  One small favor actually takes you from one end of Runescape to the other and back having to "go talk to so and so"

5.you can be a mage, archer, or warrior at the same time and change your race(or watever it is called), gender, skin color, default clothing, etc. now u dont need waste time creating millions of accounts to try different races

Except, when you start out in a skill you can do almost nothing.  It takes hundreds of hours to get to a level where a skill even becomes useful.  Magic is almost not even a combat skill as there are few things that pay more than it costs to kill them with magic.

6.there are other skills to do and level in runescape instead of combat, for example: farming, cooking, fishing, mining, smithing, summoning, wood cutting, aglity, runecrafting, hunting, fishing, cooking and much much more.

You imply that some of those activities are fun.  They are work, they are boring, people do them to make money.  The worst part is that they require you to attain a certain level in those skills for certain quests.  So if you want to go to a certain place, or use a certain item, you have to spend many hours grinding these mind numbingly boring skills.

7.most games usally offer less space for your items

That is because, in Runescape, banking is part of every chore!  It's not enough to go somewhere and do something over and over and over and over and over and over, no, you have to go there and do it over and over then walk a great distance to a bank, walk back and repeat.

8.i really like how the clothing in this game doesnt have striping clothing ;)

Sorry, I can't reply to that as I have no idea what you are trying to convey.

Flat out wrong.  If you have a question, a real question mind you, one only they can answer, not something you could have easily looked up for yourself, you very well may never get an answer.  Try to ask them if they are planning to do anything about all the freeloading and clan domination in Soul Wars.

I would say that the Runescape you descibe sounds fun, and it's how I always tried to make myself see Runescape.  However, in reality,  everytime you get bored, which is often, and you try to go do something else, there is some major hurdle you must overcome to do it.  For many of most profitable activities you also have people constantly coming up to steal your spot which is beyond frustrating because there is nothing you can do about it.  Sometimes I would log out, wait 30 seconds, log back in to a new world, someone is there, log out, wait 30 seconds, log back in to a new world....  a dozen or more times to find an empty spot.  Then after a few minutes there, someone comes along who doesn't mind being rude and tries to take your spot.

I always liked the wide variety of skills, but that is it.

I used to like the open pvp, but they removed it.

I also used to like merchanting, but they added the stupid trade limits.

They really are trying to fail arn't they :P

ive been playing runescape for roughly 9 years, i never got far because of pvp, made many pures/tanks/hybrids/etc,  but i did get far enough to have 6 100+ accounts ;)

though sadly i am now going to quit because of the crap updates =/  recently got 99 strength on runescape but it wasnt enough to keep me going, if anyone knows a good mmorpg (except wow, ive been playing fhat for 3 years and stopped a few months ago) that i can start playing message me the name of the rpg and your game id if you want, its a pain to make friends when you start a new mmo and can reduce your probability to stick with it =/ until i find a new mmorpg i'll still play RS, so yeah...whatever =/ game id is Agpaint

im currently enrolled a game programing class at a local college next year so if anyone wants to share ideas or make a simple game message me ;)

the class is primarily a computer and xbox based mmorpg creation class but we also make itouch/iphone mmo's, so as you can see i will need alot of experience if i hope to survive ;)

currently i have only made a internet browser, and addons for google chrome for the pc using c# programing but i need to start learning more programing if anyone wants to help out.

Runescape needs a lot of fixing or even culling to be well playable.

But there are a few good things about it that are worth mentioning.

They are constantly evolving the game, even showing that a complete redesign of the backend/frontend is possible in "gamespace".

The developers have actually decided to make hard choices instead of just ignoring problems...  Sure they may have completely ruined the game for some/lots but they also isolated a lot of problems for most.

They attempt to listen to a playerbase, and aren't half bad at it considering there are far to many people most of which are young or act younger than that.

I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.

  • BlisseyBlissey Member Posts: 515

Yeah sure. From a centralized point of view, I would say the same. It's all about a person's taste. I don't know but some of you actually enjoy the socialist selfish-self-centered goal of the game. These kinds of people are mostly isolated folks, but there are a few who know how to deal with that. The way I see it is, it's a hopeless operation. Time passes by quickly, and I don't see Jagex working with time. There are many things that could have been done under the circumstances they are having right now, but they refuse to even consider a "build-operate-transfer" system in which the adult players manage the social system ingame by the pmod. Well it's not my problem, because I know there are much more intelligent, wise, and cautious development teams out there. The guys who made Planeshit for example are geniuses. They don't push it too much though, and that makes them a respectable team in my opinion. Right now, I am searching for MMORPGs which use Pixel Shader technology, and guess what, I found out that EL uses basic Pixel Shader technology with a client that's only 20MB-even small for dial up folks. See folks, there are many other MMOs out there that are worth playing and worth paying for.

What really drew players was how Runescape played. In all it played as if you were actually a hero living in a actual world. In a way Runescape was just like real life, except set in some fantasy medieval land. There was free trade, you actually got a job such as fishing and selling fish among other things when you couldn't go questing. There were no set of mount of skills and no classes, just like it would be in real life. You start out blank and train in whatever you want, just like real life. Runescape kept that real feeling, but all in all it blended fantasy in well so you didnt get frustrated.
Runescape was every D & D player's fantasy. You got to be a hero in a basic, Pure D & D type world.

I have to agree with this post...RS was a place I could go after a hard day and be anything I wanted to be for that day...I could do anything I wanted and that is what ultimately led me to keep p(l)aying for as long as I did

    I AM like the wind!
