I dunno I was just thinking of the type of rts that I would like to play and I thought of this, tell me what you think. You basically have an overview of many galaxies and you can zoom in to each on however you can only look at the planets if you have explored it or if you have good enough technology. You start with basic space travel just barely able to go from planet to planet and you can of course upgrade your technology over time with resources. When you send your forces to attack it will show them moving towards the planet or fleet on the overview and when it reaches the planet you can zoom in to direct the assault showing how you want people to be deployed and how you want ships to bombard and so on. If you reach a fleet you can do much the same you can zoom in and control the fleet focus your attacks retreat what have you. Now on both of these if you are not a good military thinker if you do not zoom in to take control of the forces the AI will take over so in the fight it will be like two computers fighting each other. I was thinking of it as more of either a long term game or an mmo, but I dunno. If it was an mmo then it would take a while to make coding for all the possibilites of the game such as if you send your fleet through an astroid belt or a rogue comet hits your fleet and so on. Also as far as the ground fighting goes I was thinking of it as kind of like if you are attacking then you get your deployable base and they get their base that they had on their planet with the defences that they built on it. Then when you are moving around it has a fog of war that can only be dispersed by people moving by it however the fog of war does not just go away when you get far enough away it keeps the last image of what was there and will only be re-updated after you send something there again or use so sort of satalite thing.

I dunno this is just the type of rts that I wish to play tear it apart if you wish just me thinking freely.

Sounds like "Sins of a Solar Empire"

Its ok IMO.  Its a 4X RTS in space.  Nobody plays it online, so forget multiplayer.  Nothing all that special.  But if you want a 4X RTS (single player skirmishes with no campaign), you don't have a lot of choices aside from this.

Hmm I was looking at it and the space aspect of it is exactly what I was looking for I just wish that it went onto the planets for fights as well...oh well you can't win them all I will look into it a bit more. So from what you said I take it there isn't any other good ones besides this one?

    Sounds a lot like en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Wars:_Empire_at_War

Have the whole system map laid out and you choose which planets to go after. First you have to defeat the enemy capitol ships and fighters in orbit, then you have to fight them on the ground to capture the system. You get to choose what to leave for defense in and around each planet. Personally I thought the space battles were pretty great but the ground game was a so-so. Overall the game was probably too easy, but I doubt I played it at the highest difficulty.

Hmm graphics seem a bit worse then solar empire, but it does have the ground attack aspect.
