Best RP MMO out there?

bstrippbstripp Member Posts: 241

So I'm one of those people that like to interact with everyone.  I like to take my time, I rarely get to max level.  However, I like a game that has a really good community.  I want to interact with people who are immersed in the lore of the game.

What games do you think have the best actual RP community in them?

Check out Ryzom.  www.ryzom.com.  Also, check out ryzom-movies.net and see some of the stuff on there.  THIS is a sandbox mmo that relies on RP.  I am Onikudaki on the english speaking server.  I just started but have read a lot about it.  Send me a tell.  I could use a duo partner.  Skills are worked up by actually using them, not by classes since there are none.  I think you have a good chance of getting RP there, plus the devs are involved often.  They have invasions.  Yeah.

I've heard LotRO's RP community is pretty good.

Seconded. LOTRO is not my favourite game, but the RP on the European RP server Laurelin is the best I've ever seen. There is random RP everwhere, and The prancing pony is always full roleplayers, storytellers of all kinds and there are RP events organised on nearly daily basis. While there are non-roleplayers on the server they don't go out of their way to annoy roleplayers like they do in some other games and tend to stay IC in /say when approached. Theres also tons of RP guilds of every kind. Finally Codemasters are a lot more strict in their naming policy (especially when it comes to guild names) then other companies.

Although I havnt played Ryzom, I agree with the above LOTRO as a solid game with huge game immersion that RPers enjoy and thrive on. Also, you will find some decent roleplay in AoC

    Ryzom is amazing

EvE-Online - I'm part of an RP alliance and I must say, we hold true to our motive and convictions. It added alot of content for us.

Eve is definitely the best MMO made to date IMO. And it has extensive and detailed lore.

But I have to say, I dont think it has a lot of role play in it. Most of the role play is passive (meaning RP with actions as opposed to actually speaking as if you were in the role).

So if you like passive role play, Eve is great. If you are looking for people who speak in character all the time, very few people playing Eve actually do that.

I found some good RP taking place in Age of Conan a few times.  I only barely played Ryzom  so can't comment on it :)

I would have to agree. Age of Conan was where I found the best RP but im not really too big on RPing. So my opinion doesnt help much

I know a bit of Iyaric, and your signature confuses me. =p

"God Head(man?) for me"? It's either that or "God Rasta for me"?

agree with everyone on AOC, eve and lotro for the best rp experience.

I can also fondly remember seeing great RP in SWG. It was brilliant going into a cantina as a rebel character and being questioned by people roleplaying stormtroopers. I can remeber some people on the chimeara server even called themselves TX-345 or whatever... ah brilliant. Not sure if this kind of RP is still alive in that game but could be worth looking for.

I'd say LotRO and AoC are both pretty good bets for RP.

I would say WoW, but I'd probably be eaten alive and then shat on a Night Elf's face.

Lotro is a really good RP community that also have a pretty decent crafting and very polished pve content.  The only down side to Lotro is that there aren't really any pvp.
