The Future of AoC......Tortage??

Is AoC embracing the Tortage gaming philosophy and if so is that a good thing? After reading the past few development update regarding the future “Vision” (“”Can I use that here without getting rocks thrown at me ?) Of  AoC it is becoming more and more apparent that they are modeling the new areas (like the upcoming outdoor area and to a lesser extent Guild Cities)  after the Tortage intro quest, now I really enjoyed Tortage it was awesome…but I have to ask could the game be successful if the developers decided to use that model for the main game?  It would I would think mean that the developers would have to find a way to produce content more quickly due to the fact of the been there done that delima Tortage has. But what do you think? Is this something you think is viable?

Oh and please go elsewhere with the failcom AoC sucks idiocy..we already know that opinion.

As you say, if further expansion of the AoC universe will be based on the Torage model, it will put a high demand om the developers to keep creating detailed content.

I know many liked, and even prefered the Tortage experience, in AoC. I did like the first run through of the beginners area too, but most definitely prefer the more open world of post-Tortage. To me, basing further expansions on the Tortage model will be a step in the wrong direction.

Interesting. Honestly, I never enjoyed the Tortage experience. Not in my first run and definitely not afterwards. (And mind, I'm a fan of adventure games and story-heavy single player RPGs.)

In fact, I vividly remember beginning to enjoy the game much more once I got out of the place and went on to the beautiful Old Tarantia. In my opinion, the Tortage line of thinking cannot go far in this game. So if it were me, I'd keep going for more content in the open world and more importantly adding more gameplay tools.

While Tortage was well done, I'm not a big fan of it either...WAAAAAAAAY too much instancing there.  I hate HATE loading screens every two minutes.

Tortage was the only good thing in the whole game and yes ive played after launch manytimes. ( my opinion )

future of aoc is indeed tortage.

I did not care for Tortage in the slightest. I have never felt a more claustrophobic experience in any other MMO with the one I did playing through Tortage. It's supposed to be a MMO.. not an instanced, shoebox sized nightmare.

Interesting replies so far.....honestly I think if they are smart...(as in do what I want them to ;) ) I would like to see the meta-game more open dare I say sandboxy?  With  a mixture of  old school  Quest lines and  Tortage like adventures added to the mix.( I think they could do a lot with night-time missions in some of the larger cities.)

Now a lot of folks might say ...no you are trying to cater to, too many audiences ..and I don't think so a lot of folks do enjoy one style true but a lot of folks also like all three styles depending on what game they play. I’m just a bit concerned this new open play area will be all like Tortage and I think Funcom will be selling themselves short if they do that.

The first run through Tortage, I thought it was unbelievable.  An MMO with dialogue options and extensive voice acting?  I thought "GOALLLLLL!!!!!"

The issue that I had with it was after I ran through it over and over for new toons.  That drove me insane.  I didn't like being pigeonholed into spending my first 20 levels in the same damn place and doing (roughly) the same linear questlike.  It was monotonous and aggravating.

However, I think most of those issues were mainly because it was the starting area.  Every time you created an alt, you were forced to go through that BS.

On the other hand, if Funcom adds some areas for later levels that are similar to Tortage, it might not be as mind-numbing.  You could always go to that area, do the questline, and then head back to Hyboria and sandbox until your heart's content.

I think that sort of variety could spice the game up a bit.

I did not enjoy Tortage at all. I felt it was a completely dead city. And the knowledge that all the others running around Tortage were just like me, "the chosen one" just spoiled it completely.

Having played through the first 20 several times with various classes I can say its intresting to see how each archtype contributes to the story and they do sugest there are other "chosen ones" like your self which helps to tie it into a true MMO feel where the point honistly is that you are 1 of thosands not the 1 and only.

I do agree they really need to give some new starter options perhaps you could chose your starter location each with its own linear story, this way you could role 1 of each archtype and not see the same start 2x.

As to the rest of the game, when it first started they suffered greatly from a lack of content and its by no means "full" atm but it has gotten a lot better I still dont see it as a long term MMO of course I have not seen a long term MMO since DAoC but AoC is damn fun to play, I woudl love to see the depth of the EQ ip or Star Wars IP with the gameplay mechanics of AoC bar all else when it comes to gameplay I have never seen any thing half as fun as AoC in the MMO market with its relitivly low price I would buy it and subscribe if only till I got my fill of live sword and board combat in an MMO its more than worth 29.99 and maybe a few months subscription.
