XP stealers and not helpers! When will newbs learn?

JohnarkJohnark Member Posts: 901

I haven't seen this kind of player mentally for at least a year.  I first experienced it in Star Wars Galaxies where you'd be killing a creature, your health would be above 3/4 and you're doing fine, then some idiot player comes by, looks at you and starts killing your creature.

Why do people do this?  Whenever I say "Stop stealing my creature", they always respond: "I just wanted to help".  If I'm level 8, and some level 3 newb thinks he can "help" me, then where's the problem?  Who's the stupid one?  Them?  It can't be me...  I'm Level 8, I don't need some Level 3 newbie to help me kill a creature I was able to kill on my own.

They are stealers.

Either they want to steal XP from your creature since they suck too much at WoW they can't do it on their own.  Or it's just their way of asking for help.  If they need help, JUST ASK, don't go stealing my XP giving me the impression you're a dumb newb.  I want to kill that person even more when they do such a thing.

You know what? Proof that there's a lot of unexperienced and immature players in WoW.  Play a Night-Elf.  I was forced to play an Undead on Arthas server cause my friend's friends guild are part of the Horde so I had to be part of the Horde to play with them.  At first, I was surprised on how everyone in the Undead cities are mature, great players, fun, socialiable and aren't XP Stealers.

But of course, since Night-elves are so damn cool, I just had to go on another server on my own, create a Night-Elf (Both male and female Night-elves... hehe) and see what it's like.

(sigh) ... now I see where all the Diablo 2 players and children are... they are all Night-elves.  I can't group hunt as a Night-elf, there's always 1 or 2 newbs that don't know how to play.  You're being attacked by a mob, they go run off and kill creatures on their own.  Or you have a druid newb and all he does is Wrath the creatures and never helps to heal his comrades.  You try to explain they should help and complain that we're stealing all the XP, so we kick him out and start whinning.

anyways... enough complaining... ALL HAIL THE UNDEAD & THE HORDE!!!  Where all the real players are. lol

No offence to the mature players that are Night-elves... but hey, don't tell me you disagree about what I just said? :)

Actually, I'm pretty sure that although still annoying, (least to me maybe not for some) that if you have taken the first say.. 5% (guess) of the creatures health, it belongs to you, to others its name colour will go grey and no matter what they do, they get nothing from it and you get the full reward and loot.

Pretty sure that is correct. So all the people you were mad at, WERE in fact just helping you along. One of my favorite features in wow actually.

I tend to run around healing people, and occasionally draw aggro and help kill a critter when someone is in over their head (And believe you me, healing someone is a VERY effective (to effective) way to draw a mobs attention image  I was very surprized the first time a Mob went after me for healing a guy with less than 25 health and 10 lvls beneath me)

Intressting question with a simple answer :P NEVER. come on... BUT, you can prevent it, in PvP worlds it's just to kill em, simple and good. Warn first kill after, n00bs can take a punch or 2 :P

They are not stealing from you...

Who ever hits the the mob first gets the xp and the loot. There is no way to steal xp from other people in this game except perhaps by running around and hitting them with a ranged attack before you can get to them. This game is the best I have seen as far as kill stealing goes. I like the hit it and its yours system. it prevents griefing.

Ok you obviously don't know how PvP works. :P

And I think people can "steal" XP from you. They can't get XP from you, but they can take it away from you. I think this is how it works:

    Example:

A mob is worth 100xp to Player A.
    Player A hits mobs first.
Player B then hits the mob and ends up taking 1/2 of it's HP.
When the mob dies, Player A gets ~50XP, Player B gets nothing.

I pretty sure that is how it works.

Hey I have heard this is the way it works also, because then you can get your higher lvl friends to kill off the mobs when you hit it first. So just say your lvl 10 and you have a friend thats lvl 30, if the lvl 10 players hits a lvl 20 mob first and the lvl 30 then kills it for you the lvl 10 player would get all that xp. Which is not fair...(hope that makes sense)

So I too agree that even though the player "stealing" from you isnt taking xp, but what they are doing is lower the xp that you get. However with this said players that "help" me dont annoy me, because what is the most harm they can do. Lower the xp by a 1/3, and the way there looking at it is that their helping you...image

And by the way no one complains when players heal you and buff you for no reason. This is what I like about the game community, when i played OB, is that others players didnt mind buffing and healing you...

In games i play or played it's working fine, BUT it's true i havent played WoW yet. Why wouldent i work to kill em? n00bs are allways noobs eh? their less experianst players than yourself, it wouldent be that hard to wipe one out. Or can horde kill horde and so on? Mayby not :/ if so, i appoligise for my stupid post and so on. But if it's possible, then i dont find anything bad with it.  I dont do like that, but it's working fine for those i know how done it in thier games.

You can't kill players from you're own Faction. And if they're of the opposite faction, they'd help the mob to kill you, not the other way 'round image

You can defeat players of the same Faction, provided they accept a duell-challange. And if they are such low level you'd easily defeat them, they're unlikely to accept a challenge.

So wat if a player decides to be a dick, n gets the 1st hit on all mobs in an area...? Like, some high lvl player in a low, low, LOW lvl area.. So that newbs cant train? Or is this fixed somehow..

Ahh, but that's not a problem in WoW. If you hit a mob and run, it becomes Un-flagged again as soon as you leave it's Aggro-radius. Unless a area is completely swamped, there will always be free Mobs to engage.

Thx^^ I havent played yet, so donno wat to expect... N I donno if I have much confidence in Blizzard, so I gotta ask these questions :p

For all I kno, all the ppl here who say this game is gd could be jus 10 yr olds with their parents credit card :/

EDIT: Or ppl who enjoy lvl grind n forget all abt tradeskills n stuff :p (Thats almost worse than 10 yr old)

stupid ass post, if u played the game for even 5 mins, u know that it's not even worthwhile trying to steal exp... cuz after u do about 5% or so dmg on the monster, the experience goes to you no matter who kills it. stop making stupid posts, were your fingers itching and u had to write something? and if a high level goes into a low level area, most monsters would be grey to him and he'd get no exp. kthx gg cya

  • lonelyrobotlonelyrobot Member Posts: 194

if you're level eight, shouldn't you be out of the areas where a level three can actually help kill your prey?

  • NeasNeas Member Posts: 887

Some people obviously are a bit too grumpy for playing mmorpgs. You'd be more pissed if A: They could loot your kill B: They got exp for them helping.

The poor new guy was just being friendly and i bet you threw a torrent of abuse at him for helping you.

CHRIST! he is only level 3... he is 20 minutes into the game FIGURING OUT HOW IT WORKS and thought hey that player is fighting a mob maybe i can help. SO he went and helped you. I bet you told him to go away very abruptly.

If anything this DOES show how bad the community on WoW is.... ITS YOU who is in the wrong not him. Everyone is a newb sometime, and i bet we aint hearing the other side of the story...i.e this:

I was playing WoW, when i didn't know how to play... my first time playing *sniff*. Then i went to help out a fellow player who was fighting a monster. I thought i was doing the nice thing, i was only trying to be sociable and make a new friend. I helped him kill it and then he started shouting at me that i was kill stealing. I tried to explain i didnt get any money or items but he didn't listen. Said he was gonna go cry and moan about it on his favourite forum.... *sniff* *sniff* I hate WoW because of evil unsociable people like this. Please tell me your not all like this! Please!.

    ANyone else think like this?

    Oh man your stupid.

You can't really kill steal, and you mentioned lvl 3's leeching xp from you at lvl 8, it's impossible.

Your the unexperienced and "dumb newb" not knowing the BASIC game mechanics of this game, you can't kill steal.

How hard is it to flag a mob yours by just using an opening attack? Not hard at all, jesus.

When Fæn is running around, I make it a habit to stop and check the person's help and the creature's health. If it looks like it's going to be close, I'll toss in a backstab or something to help out.

That's the thing. You cannot kill-steal in WoW.
After you land the first hit on the mob, it's yours. You always get a full exp from it. No matter how much damage the other player makes. Been there, tried that, got helped from a higher-level player occasionally- and still got the same exp.

Sorry everyone but YES you can steal kills in WoW. right now the first person to tap a mob normally gets it, but there is a window that remains open. The window depends on the Mobs health, A level 25 named mob needs to get below 80% health before that mob belongs to you regular mobs are around 90%, if another player hits it and causes it to drop below 80% he has stolen your kill. This happens alot. As a warlock I start by DoT's then throwing pet in, if a rogue or mage hits before it gets below that window they steal my kill.

Since I play on a regualr server, I sometimes do this to the Alliance scum-

Well it's not rightfully yours, how hard is it to do the amount of damage on the mob you wan't to kill before someone else does it?

Ive never had this problem... the thread starter just opened his mouth before thinking out of frustration about something else.

Unless you go for a mob that's out of your league at your level so it will require a little time and even then you will look stupid whining about it instead of doing it at a higher level.

Ive been playing melee classes and had hunters/spellcasters tapped a mob I went for and I did not consider that kill stealing, just rather lame because they should have noticed that I was going for it.

Kill steal is like when you steal the kill for the xp loot/quest and loot when someone been fighting it like in Lineage 2 or in any other MMORPG where kill stealing is actually possible.

  • I remember in Horizons, one of the bigger "issues" was node stealing, you know, when you were harvesting something and another starts at the same node. Well i read the mining part of the WOW page. And it seems they dont discourage that kinda behaviour. if i read it right.
