LFM non targeting MMOs

Falcon4hireFalcon4hire Member Posts: 13

Sup all this is my first post here at mmorpg.com.

I'm looking for a MMORPG with no targeting combat system.

Btw , doesn't have to be free.

The best thing I could do to give you an idea of what I mean by "non targeting combat" would be to gives examples such as -

Currently out: -

Lunia (currently playing)

Grand Chase

Maple Story

Spell Bound

Darkfall (I heard this one sucked)

Couple of those are 2D others are full 3D. And yes even tho it's a "3D" game, the game only allows you to move in 2 axes. Therefore it’s a"2D" game. Also I know I'm missing couple of the obvious/less popular titles. Just too lazy to dig up the names of the ones I saw XD.

Coming out ;-

TERA: The Exiled Realm of Arborea

Mabinogi Heroes (this is going to be an awesome game ^_^ )

Continent of the Ninth (so is this ^_^ )

Blade and Soul

Dragons Nest

*Start mini rant*

Can someone please tell me why NONE of these mmos that are coming out are on the mmorpg game list? I just would like to know because I guess I don't fully understand the purpose of this site in general. Or what state of "development" does a game have to be at to make the list.

*End mini rant*

I'm LF Preferably a full 3D game.

I've played WOW for 4 years and played RO for 2 years before that. I would guess that I'm fairly new to the mmo world (playin WOW as ur first mmo is like sayin you played FF7 as your first FF).

I personally believe that non targeting combat is the wave of the future (when done right). So I'm tryin to find out if there is any that I might of missed. Like I said, I played WOW and RO, so i am 100% done with auto attacking. IMO that makes the game more boring to have something done for you in that way.

Bottom line, PVE/PVP, I do both, I'm just here to have fun with friends.

So if you got any fun MMOs with a non targeting combat system, please lemme know. I'm willing to try anything once ^_^ V,,

TERA looks Sick ^^... but hoping it isn't all Flashy Flashy...

Only one I think of That would be non mob targeting are...

Chronicles of SpellBorn  ( Spos to be pretty good but it is P2P after like lvl 7 or something)

Risk Your Life, Risk your Life 2 ( Not the best game but is Click to Swing.)

-Now if your still looking and you have a good computer I recommend....

Age of Conan ( Under new management couple months ago everything is up to date and now the game is flourishing and is a great game, Worth playing.)

It is only Non targetish with Melee, you still Semi Target but it is Splash damage say with Sword Swing or something but for single damage attacks or attack in general there is targeting involved.

    - I can't say they will all e no targeting 100% but thats just top of my head.

    - I also will vouch for Grand chase, bad as it might look it has a good System.

Also for Lunia how is the population as I knew when it moved to Ijji that prettymuch fell apart.

Thanx for the fast post Signore ^_^

I’ve already played Age of Conan, I honestly hated the combat system. The part about having to hit a direction to execute a skill totally killed it for me.

Tera does look sick but not enough info out for anyone to get any real idea of the game.

What I’m really waiting for is Mabinogi Heroes and Continent of the Ninth (C9). Those look like they are going to be some awesome games.

I loved Grand Chase’s combat system, the only thing about it is that the content pretty much repeats it self. After about a month of playing, there was really nothing to look forward to.

As for Lunia, totally love the game. The population seems decent. I normally have no issue finding groups at the mid levels. I haven’t made it to end game yet. I don’t believe Ijji killed it, although I only started playing about 2-3 months ago so I haven’t a clue what it was like before Ijji took it over.

There is always awesome games on the horizon, but Mabinogi Heroes does look good, for the time being I'll just stick with the normal one ^^.

And I know alot of people just don't like the combat system, and thats normal its a very werid system... its like half Mortal Kombat/RPG mixed =)

I found it alright but back when I played it was a ruined game and I left because of that, I have lost my account now as the system won't send me back my Password through email >.<

And just adding for fun my First FF was FF10 about 3 years ago playing it on my Step Brothers PS2, I never got into the FF series prior even though I had a PS2... not really sure why...

I started playing return of warrior about 2 days ago(Also known as RYL 2) and i quite like it. It has hack and slash combat with WASD movements, jump, you can even do side rolls with certain weapons and classes. With ranged weapons you even have to aim in order to hit. If there are two mobs in front of you and you swing your sword, you hit them both.

It's quite fun to be honest, graphics are 3d but somewhat dated, still it looks ok. I'm not saying i'm going to play this game forever but for now there isn't anything good to play, and i'd rather play a game that requires a little bit out of the player than a point-click-wait till it dies game.

I'm suprised it's not on the game list on this site, check it out here:

    Thanx for the suggestion ObliviousX.

I looked at it and I prolly should of mentioned that i’m also lookin for a game with a combo system XD.

I honestly didn’t think I needed to say that because it didn’t seem right to make a non-targeting combat style without adding in a combo system.

It just makes sense to me that when I swing and get a successful hit, the enemy it stoned just long enough for me to chain another hit before they are able to react.

Again, thanx for the suggestion but I think I’m gonna pass on RYL 2.

I can only think of two currently out and not on your list right now:

Dragonica has a fair number of similarities with Grand Chase, so may be worth looking into for you.

Ghost X is currently under testing by GameNGame.  Of the things on your list, it resembles Lunia the most.

  • Falcon4hireFalcon4hire Member Posts: 13

    Thanx for the suggestions A.Dantes.

Ghost X does look kinda fun. Another one that also looks like the same relative play style is “Rusty Hearts”. Dragonica was the one I had in mind when I said that I was overlooking a couple of the obvious ones.

I really can’t wait for C9, especially after seeing this

(btw my name on youtube is “c21strife”, look at my comment on the link”)

I’m really just looking for something to kill time till OBT to be honest XD

Hmm, I know a game, it's 3D sidescolling. It's got splash attacking, non targetting attacks, And a combo system.

    Dragonica.

I played it for a few weeks, it's quite fun for a change. Worth a try.

They have a US and EU base but if you want to check out the EU site, here's the link.

    Try the DDO trial.

I'm acturally in the same boat as you Falcon4hire.

I'm looking for somthing that's like Chronicles of Spellborn..... but with more people? lol and a pvp battleground would be nice, also a crafting system like Starwars Galaxies before NGE.

But the upcoming Blades and Soul looks pretty nice, the game is out of closed beta and you can play it in korean.

If you liked Maple Story, i suggest Wonderking Online. I got a closed beta key but havn't used it. Was intrested in the Castle Siege Pvp System but it appears it won't be in the closed beta.

The only MMO out there with a non-targeting system that is good would have to be Chronicles of Spellborn. But there are many korean titles coming out next year that look very promising....... i just need a game to keep me occupied till next year >.<

Lots of what people say about Darkfall is false. They exaggerate everything to make the game seem 100 times worse. I started after the first month of release and I gotta say, it has given me the most fantastic experience. This is my opinion and I am not trying to make up anything. There are PVE issues with the game atm however but there will be a major expansion in the beginning of July and many of us are waiting in anticipation. The NA server is releasing on JULY 7th so don't buy Darkfall until then because the server right now is located in Europe. I am assuming you are in NA.

alright, I know that u prolly know better by now, because this thread is rather old...I KNOW!

but look, I believe its time for some post with some truth to it, so here goes:

dude, you'd have to be pretty messed up to like 2D and or sidescrolling mmorpgs....if u rly do, maybe u should just stick with that....just sayin'....

But if ur rly ready for a good 3D(!) mmorpg then get this:

I agree, non target combat is the standard of the future, and I was psyched to hear that player skills will matter in mmorpgs. BUT ur list....dude darkfall rly sucks and even google doesn't  know a game called spell bound.....Chronicles of Spellborn sucks as well.......

but here are the good news: if ur willing to pay for the game: mabinogi heroes will be as great and awesome as blade and soul, but before u pay for stuff like that, why not try the REAL next generation stuff: TERA!!!!! it will kick ass so bad dude I'm telling u it has graphics like other games have cinematic trailers and it will be the greatest online game ever created, so if u wanna pay, pay for tera.....

If u dont wanna pay......I was in the CB of a game called divine souls, which is f2p, it has a steampunk theme and is non target but plz look into urself, next CB will prolly start this month....http://divinesouls.outspark.com/

also the CB for a game called vindictus is currently running, I didn't get into it, but the gameplay looks kinda like prince of persia, which made me prefer divine souls....

personally I won't pay monthly for any online game, so divine souls will be my game from now on......I can only repeat, if ur ready to pay, DON'T MISS OUT ON TERA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pardon the repeats... this is my list so far tho. I too think these types of games are the future of mmos, so I've been keeping tabs on anything I find.

    Quotin myself from another post:

"The ones with good graphics are Fallen Earth, Darkfall, and Mortal Online.

Fantasy Earth Zero is cartooney and heavily instanced, but pretty creative.

Xsyon is in prerelease (basically you pay for open beta).

Return of Warrior (Risk Your Life) and Spellborn I can't seem to find a download for which isn't corrupt.

There's also Dungeons and Dragons Online, but it also has a miss roll... If you don't mind that, it's a really creative game, and really immersive.

Age of Conan, and Everquest II's autotarget systems make them sometimes feel like they are aim based.

That's all I know of that I can think of right now. The main reason why target based games seem like they are all the same is cause the combat (which is what takes up most of your time) eventually becomes like whackamole. Whackamole isn't fun when you do it for 4-8 hrs a day. You don't have this problem with aim based games.

Theres a bunch of aim based games coming out, too. Most notably Tera. There's also Vindictus, and I think The Secret World is going to be aim based. And then there's Divine Souls and Land of Chaos Online, and probably more, but I'm still looking."

I honeslty wouldn't even bother with The Chronicles of Spellborn. I believe it's shutting down.

Please come check out my stream. All the love is appreciated!
