The only reason I ask is since seeing that cinematic trailer...and then reading all the post on the official TOR...talking smack about how the sith are going to dominate etc....the maturity level seems to be lacking..it reminds me of WOW. I am already thinking the safe way to play it is play a jedi as opposed to the sith since most of the comments were coming from future sith players. Right now I am playing LOTRO and the community seems much more mature compared to WOW, which is a huge plus. Everyone is talking about endgame with this game..well for me..community is a huge selling point.
So whats everyone thoughts on what the TOR community will be like?
itllbe like any other game, stop making generalized comments. I play WoW and these "immature" gamers are much less frequent than you seem to think. If theres immature players itll be the star wars geeks that come into this game with an attitude like yours and ultimately ruin the experience for countless people. Theres a reason why WoW works, theres no lore experts in the game touting off obscure information making you wonder what the hell youre doing playing the game.
Considering the behavior I've been seeing on here recently, I think I'm worried about a base of immature players similar to WoW too.
sadly, i'd have to agree with you, its not that games like WOW dont have mature players too, its just that the immature element always seems to be dominating it, or trying to, maybe thats why i like eve so much, most of the 'kiddies' hit that learning curve and bounce, maybe they can bring something like it into ToR too.
I have to admit that I think an in game ignore function is paramount these days. Due to the constant bickering trolling winging negative arses out there.
Mind you I didnt see many of them in AOC and only a few in LOTRO
I also wonder how they will deal with illegal currency sales?
I used to visit this site a lot however in recent years it has become the home of negative forum posts, illogical opinions and tantrums so I visit less often.
Played or Beta'd: UO / DAOC / Horizons / EQ2 / DDO / EVE / Archlord / PirateKingsOnline / Tabula Rasa / LOTRO / AOC / Champions / Darkfall / Mortal Online / DCUO / Rift / STO / SWTOR / TSW
Seeing the "maturity" exhibited by the SWG cult that claims they'll never touch this game makes me feel much better about this potential game's fan base.;)
There should also be one or two tricks that will annoy immature players much more than mature ones
For example:
In order to qualify for a Jedi/sith Character you must have a non jedi/sith character of at least level <number> making sure that there are few around in the early days and that you learn the game before running amok with a lightsabre and the telepathic ability to given an ewok a nosebleed.
and
Jedi players can only advance their toons by a set amount of experience each month (beyond a set level perhaps). After all it takes time to harness and perfect the use of the force and lightsabre swinging in safety. Beyond a certain point you might get bonus's towards the next batch of XP but no actual advancement. Therefore those playing beyond the XP movement are playing out of fun.
I could live with that but it might seem a little too slow for the immature players and the glory gamers.

I'm afraid I don't see a point in introducing artificial restrictions on Jedi/Sith players. During the time period in which this takes place, there are hundreds of Jedi and Sith in the universe, so I don't see why they would implement restrictions on these classes over any other.
If you believe that "immature" players would be stopped by such a restriction, I would disagree with that as well. There are immature players in every game, and there will always be. No deterrent is strong enough to prevent children, and those that act like them, from playing a game if they want to.
If anything, I believe a restriction on these classes would only send players both mature and immature into an uproar and only fan the flames of a thousand more "This game is stupid" threads.
Immature players will be in all MMOs for all of time.
That is where guilds come in, so that you can control what people you interact with and keep out all the obnoxious ones. As for the rest of in game I suspect it will be fairly easy to avoid all the idiots, much like most modern MMOs now. In LotRO for example I never have to deal with an idiot player ever in any form if I don't want to.

Exactly. Use your /ignore function liberally and join a good guild. Every game has loud mouthed idiots in it, the beauty of games is they're easier to ignore then they are in a restaurant, at work or anywhere else so why worry about it and why speculate when you know they'll be there, just like they're in any place where lots of people meet both in the real world or a virtual world.

True - it was just a couple of off the cuff suggestions. Glad it got a logical response.
The amount of nay sayers is getting on my nerves somewhat. To the point where I have combated this by simply visiting the forum less often.
Fingers crossed for an ignore function. Beta testers please pick up on this (if I don't get in)

probably there are only 2 ways of dealing with in game currencies, and illegal trading of such (rmt's etc)
1. dont have an in game currency
2. make currency exchange/transfer impossible within the game.
short of putting an ip block on certain countries anyway ;D
