Nintendo "Demo Play"

clwoodsclwoods Member Posts: 625

Nintendo has decided that video games still aren't easy enough it seems.

"In an interview with USA Today, legendary Nintendo designer Shigeru Miyamoto confirmed that the company's rumored in-game help system (initially dubbed the "Kind Code," but now tentatively called "demo play") will make its first appearance in the upcoming New Super Mario Bros. for the Wii, which hits store shelves this holiday.

Rather than forcing players to comb the web for cheat codes and walkthroughs, the new help system is built directly into the game. If a player gets stuck, they'll have the option to pause play and allow the game to take over and play itself through any rough patches. Once they're out of the woods, players can hop back in and continue playing. "

Original article.

I know the option to not use it is always there.  That being said, I still hate this idea.

I have nothing against the idea at all. Cheatcodes to skip levels or to make your character(s) stronger to skip certain parts have been have been around for as long as I can remember.

If you get stuck at a certain section of the game, you lose access to the rest of the game. With this new system, any player can have access to the entire game they paid for. If anybody doesn't want to use it, they don't have to.

Maybe I'm being a bit over sensative about it.  I don't know.  I just feel like it diminishes the challenge of games.

The next generation of games will literally play themselves.  This has already begun.  A handful of games with built in bot programs have already been released.  Many popular MMO's might as well have them built in, because they are so readily available and often utilized.

Gameplay of the future is you checking in once in a while to see how your game is doing.  Eve Online is an example of how that transition has already started.

Single player games like Last Remnant don't even let you control your characters.  You just watch as the battles play out via AI.

Look at it as a tool for younger gamers.
