Just bought 38 shares of NCSoft stock. Wish me luck!

VABeachDaveVABeachDave Member Posts: 228

I just bought 38 shares of NCSoft stock. Had to buy it from a Charles Scwab broker locally. There are no non Korean stock brokers directly on the Korean exchange so they had to order it through a Korean broker via phone they have an arrange with. Korean stock exchange is not set up for on-line trading.

It's a little confusing tracking the actual pricing of the stock as the various stock sites don't always agree. I suspect they don't all update live for Korean stocks and currency conversions.

Anyway Charles Schwab says each share is sitting at 140.306 USA dollars (They are doing the conversion for me). Reuters says its 168000 KRW which translates to $132.3512 USA when you use Yahoo currency converter. I think the currency and the stock are not being updated live on Reuters or yahoo. Going to be a bitch tracking both Korean currency and NCSoft stock at the same time. One could go up while the other down and I'd still stay even! I'm just going to stick with Charles Schwab's numbers as that's where it was purchased through. Cost me $100.00 USA to buy the stock (That's the price you pay for dealing with the Korean exchange) and it will cost me another $100.00 or so when I sell it depending on the sales price.

Anyway. With AIOn to be released in Japan, Taiwan, Auzzie land, USA and EU still. Hoping it will rise through the roof over the next few months. Then again, maybe I lose it all! I'll check back in January and let you all know how I made out.

Wish me luck!

Smart move with Guild Wars 2 right around the corner. I might do the same actually.

Great idea.  I'm sure there are many uninformed brokers that have no clue about this.

In the USA Charles Schwab told me I had to spend at least $5,000.00 USA to buy stock on the Korean stock exchange. Sort of a minimum so to speak. It may be different in other countries. Fees for the purchase are on top of the $5k.

Charles Schwab: (800) 992-4685 is their USA number but don't come back and sue my ass if you do the same and lose your shirt!

Good luck to you, man. Hope that turns into a nice pile for you. If AION and GW2 do what they're expected to do, that could very possibly put a good amount of coin in your pocket.

I'm a newbie to stocks, but i haven't done any in months because it hasn't been so good in most areas. I wish I could do this but at 100 for each share....ehhh. Unless I did like one rich guy did. Buy a credit card and gamble all the credit for stocks.

Only one person gets rich on stocks ,its the brokers. You may get badgered with phone calls asking you to sell and purchase something better ,only for the reason they can make more money off of you.I would not trust anything from Korea or stock brokers.BTW ,don't forget about the lawsuite ,that could cause some strife if Lord British wins it.

Even though Korea is huge on gaming,i do not believe there is a large enough player base to make any money on this game.

Personally i do not feel Aion was in production for very long at all,so they won't be a hundred million in debt, the game is probably for the most part a generated world cheaply made game[maybe 40 million?].So the stock buyers will be speculating that this game will turn a profit, but i just cannot see a profit for several years, because like i said ,there is too small a player base to go around for new MMOs.NCSOFT has so it says around 2500 employees ,not sure if that includes CEO 's and the other high priced staff members. That is some large overhead, with not so big of gaming numbers,i think the stock speculation on NCSOFT was a bit premature[upcoming games] and will actually level off or slide.

Doing just a bit of homework,it looks like that stock rose quite a bit over the last 5/6 months,so there is a very risky chance it will cool off maybe even slide badly,if they do not get the numbers they need. That stock is already showing signs of maybe tailing off.The stock game is just that ,a game in itself, built around trickery and deceit and outright lies. All that matters of course is if you can make any money from it,very hard to do.

We saw how NCSOFT treated their player base by closing down TR,and screw Garriot out of millions of dollars through stock manipulation. If Lord british has any kind of decent lawyers that can do some homework, they would realize games do not shut the doors that fast on a game and screw over their fanbase. This was clearly a case to screw Lord birtish out of money and stock options and i believe they should lose the court battle. The problem is that it may all seem obvious, his team has to prove what no good NCSOFT was up to,that is a tough thing to do,geesh if OJ got off, anyone can weasel their way out.Still if NCSOFT loses this court battle,i do not think it will help their image one bit.

NCSOFT claimed Garriot quit..rflmao ya right,i think i will go on a space trip and contemplate quitting NCSOFT and screw myself out of potential millions.geesh if any judge or court rules in favor of NCSOFT,they should be slapped silly or Garriots lawyers should be never used by anyone for being so inept.

Then we have the lawsuite by WORLD.COM,that could cause some bigtime hurt on NCSOFT.This is one court battle however i feel will be tough for World.com to win.It seems to vague from where i see it,and would cause strife throughout the whole gaming industry. However the possibility is still there,it adds yet another possible downside to NCSOFT.

Luckily GW2 is on the menu. Aion is a hit in Asia but it won't be near the same numbers in the west. However, GW2 is gonna be a huge hit at home so its money well invested.

I wish you all the luck dave!

I will be keeping an eye on it as well, if the korean Won goes up and so does the price of NCSoft is a double win! But that also means your currency will depreciate, ah well, can't have it all. I think your going to do great!

    All the best,

Goodluck with this. Really. I'm pretty envious of you right now. Would do it without hesitation if I had the cash laying around.

    Uh, what lawsuit?

BTW 'Lord British' has about the worse public opinion rating than George Bush.  Why are you advocating for him?  And isn;t his brother still runing NC west?  If you ask me, we got lucky to get rid of one of them, now lets focus on the other and turn NC west around.

Good luck.  Seems like a good choice especially if you are there to beta and play the games as they launch.  You should be able to judge the best time to sell.

I hope you realize the stock is at it's 52 week high point. It has already seen a rise due to initial Aion sales. You won't make a killing anymore. You should have bought it when it was selling for $25 a share in fall/winter of 2008.

He's talking about Richard Garriott there slick.  Not the British PM.

And yea good luck.  The stock has increased 4 fold since this year, but I'm afriad you've already missed the bandwagen.  6 Months ago would have been perfect.  Right now it looks to be selling at a premium.

Considering Aion is about to release in Taiwan and Japan, I think now it's the best time after last November to buy stock, Taiwan has proven to be a huge market for NCsoft and Japan will sure do well too.

I'm not so sure. It could very well continue to rise for years.

I should of bought a few months ago yes but missed that boat. All I can do is go with what they have now.

The last Earnings Release report they released is dated May 11th, 2009 and shows January - March 2009 data. April and beyond is not listed. So only the numbers for AION in Korea are listed in that Earnings Release.

Chin's release has already occurred and their numbers are not in that report yet.

And we still have launches for the game in:

    Japan 3Q 2009

    USA Q3 2009

    Europe Q3 2009

    Soviet Union Q3-Q4 2009

Since their stock is already fairly high priced now (It rose by 315% due mostly to new AION release in Korea) it is up in the range of a stock split. If it gets up too much higher I would expect a split to happen shortly after. Companies just don't normally keep their stock up high for long periods of times without splitting them.

Yeah he was talking about Richard Garriot, AKA Lord Brittish.  So way to fail at pointing out what you thought a mistake by displaying your lack or reading comprehension.  Where did you get the idea he was reffering to the British PM?

But yes, its true that expected and realized gains due to Aions popularity have long since been figured into the stock price.  Jumping in now is a sure way to lose.

The world of Ultima series was called Britannia, and Richard was born in England, so yeah, RG is Lord British.

Interesting, I was going to buy stock before Warhammer came out. I thought it would be a sure hit turns outs, I could not have been more wrong.  Good thing I did not do it as EA's price tanked big time. I would caution anyone beofre you do anything like that to really think about it. Instead I bought GE at $5 and Dow chemical at $7 and Exxon and Honeywell all at great low prices and reaped the rewards. I have thought about this with Activison/blizzard as they keep reporting higher subs, but their stock price really does not reflect the numbers in my opinion not sure why.  I mean $15 a month time 13 million is 195 million a month or 2.34 billion dolllars a year really for nothing. Any company would be thrilled with numbers and growth like that I believe. No product, salesmen, storage or warehouse just programmers and servers. All I can say is buyer beware I wish you good luck I hope it works out.
