PvP or PvE

Which do you prefer?

I like the idea of PvP but the dishonor system thing not being implemented worries me. Is "griefing" a prevelent thing in PvP or does it happen very little and the ones it does happen to let EVERYONE know?

Just trying to figure out which type I should be playing on.

PvP all the way! Personally I never played PvP before but, now is a chance to get in at the beginning and be all powerful so PvP all the way.

The perfect world - everybody holding hands in harmony PvE thing is a little weak to me.

PvP, I'm glad they didn't implement the dishonour system, like they said, would've been the subject of abuse moreso than getting corpse camped by a higher level. Like just one example is being a Mage and using an AOE spell, if lower levels are mixed in the group you target your'll be getting tons of dishonour.

Better to leave it for players to solve it by other means like calling in buddies or spamming local defense, heh.

I think PvP servers are just more fun and even if Battlegrounds are a blast I still think the unpredictability and added teamwork needed makes the PvP servers more desirable to me despite the ganking I will receive at one time or another.

PvP by far.  you'll get ganked and you'll get griefed but because the penalty is nothing, and don't forget you can get your corpse back while in ghostform so they won't see you coming and you can pick up your corpse far enough away from the sight of the guy camping it.  the griefing hardly happens in wow and usually the alliance/horde, which ever faction you're in, will come and help you eventually.  trust me its a small price to pay for the huge battles between alliance and horde every week or so.

I am no carebear, but I prefer PvE. I just like to explore, craft and things of that nature.

Also keep in mind that in every other mmorpg where they give you a choice of PvP or PvE, PvE outnumbers PvP by a lot.  It's different in WoW, PvP players actually outnumber PvE player simply because they made it fun and penalty isn't harsh at all.  It also gives you a sense of accomplishment because anyone can beat a predictable mob.  but its a lot more interesting when you know horde/alliance won't let you accomplish your goal too easily.

I have been playing PvE since I started a few days ago so I could learn my class and the game before moving on to a PvP server.

But, I have been reading a lot on the WoW forums and think I am going to stay on the PvE server. You can still PvP, you just can't gank people. That is enough for me. And then when they get the battlegrounds going, there will be no need for playing on the PvP servers unless you like the "you may get ganked" type of playstyle.

This game is based heavily around quests, and if your quest location happens to be in control of the other side, you may never complete it. I would rather just worry about getting a group together to complete a quest, moreso than worry about getting a gang big enough to get to the quest location.

Was playing in a PvP server but I had to quit. I was trying to defend Crossroads from the Alliance, but my FPS kept getting so low, I wouldn't be able to move then find myself next to a spirit flag with a 0.5 FPS. Now I am playing on a PvE server. As soon as I have enough money to update my computer, I am going to do that and move on back to the PvP server that I left off on.

Griefing is the only reward and reason to PvP right now. In fact WoW has the worst PvP system to date - other than EQ2's non-existant one. I chose a PvP server however because in the long run I am hoping Blizzard stays true to their world and implements a solid honor system.

I really don't understand all teh fuzz. There's PvP on PvE/RP servers as well, and the fact you can't get griefed is very good IMHO.  They should defenitely introduce the hour-system, or make is so you can't attack someone 5 levels or more below your own level unless they attack you first. The same circumstances for wich you getted PvP-flagged in PvE should apply at all times regardless of level (ie you're fair game if you; 1.) Attack an NPC of opposing faction, 2.) Assist someone involved in PvP, 3.) Enter Enemy territory (I say territory, not Town. anyone venturing in to a area/map wich is biased towards the opposing Faction is open season for any and all players of oposing Faction))

Well, as for my opinion...look at it this way.

I was originally on a PvE server, and a bunch of us decided to go on a raid after some Horde guys invaded us. We chased them all the way to the docks in Darkshore, where they boarded and got away. We decided to launch a counterattack into Ashenvale since there were some reports of Horde forces there.

So we gather a nicely-sized group of people, about 12 or so, and we head into Ashenvale. We passed by two Taurens and they attacked us and we quickly mobbed and killed them. Then, later on, some Horde forces came down our way, and they just stood there. We had full PvP flag on and everything, but nobody was stupid enough to engage a group of 12 people all by themselves. So we just stood there and taunted them for a bit and they taunted back, but ultimately we knew that they wouldn't attack us and we couldn't attack them.

So we went around for another 30 minutes or so and it was the same thing everywhere: we would taunt people and they would taunt back (or ignore us) but ultimately no fighting took place. We only killed those 2 Tauren at the beginning and that was it. Very deflating.

That was when I decided to move to a PvP server, that and the fact that my priest was getting oh-so-boring. At first I was all afraid of getting ganked everywhere I go so I joined a server with low population, but I hardly ran into anybody so I switched over to a high populated server. I'm really glad that I made the change, raids now actually make sense and you don't go around and get ganked all over the place. I've safely treaded into Ashenvale and Thousand Needles (though not too much further than that) without getting attacked. Most people just want to go around doing their quests instead of going full-on PvP. I've even attacked some people before around my level but they just run away.

    Just my opinion.

Ranma you joined the PVE server.... wrong server for you :)

If you wanna have realism and do raids properly then pvp is the way. As you said i've seen Night Elves and Orcs sit down and have tea parties ^ ^ on PVE :P

Funny but it isn't realistic is it, considering all the quests gear you towards the side vs side conflict and all the alliance vs horde areas have towns that are so close to each other its ridiculous.

Just face it this game was designes like DAOC i was designed as PVP and not PVE. PVE was added to stop solo players getting ganked over and over by groupers.

Solo players go to PVE... Botters go to PVE, real players go to pvp. It may have bad times but much better is that you will kill others randomly also. Its a duel edged sword.

Ultimately though i like the pvp as it is, i like being able to roam free at the start without fear of being killed ut once i reach lvl 20 i want to have to think and not travel on roads when im single player... and if i see another solo player go kill them before they kill me :P.

I love the openness of the PvP and the large amount of contested areas (basically any non-newbie area). I love the level balance how 2 lower level 30s could take on a high level 30. I hate that there is no reward/honor system in place. The top of my list of complaints is corpse camping (suprise!) and being attacked while I'm fighting a NPC. It's a joke and if you want to see how bad ganking can get - play horde and quest in Hillsbrad. You will die, die, and die again before you die your final death there.

I mostly PvE.. but sometimes I join a raid but i think theres nothing about those raids when u go with 12 ppl when you have 50+ ppl then its kinda fun.

but still its better to be really high lvl as the raid is no longer fun if you have a groug of lvl 20-30 players... and you come across lvl 50 guards u cant even hit em.. So PvP is only fun a high lvls and in a really big group...

I am a casual player on this game (2-3 hours every other day) so for me the obvious choice was the PVE server.  I just dont have the time to run back to my body everytime a group of hordlings come along.

I'd be all for PvP (Horde vs Alliance NOT full pvp) if there was a RP PVP server.

  • JohnarkJohnark Member Posts: 901

PVE all the way.  PVP is just something to do when I'm not in the mood to grind or have nothing better to do.

PVP in most MMORPGs (Except DaoC which actually allows you to gain more skills, but that's called Realm VS Realm, but it's still PVP) lead to nothing other than personal glory.

You don't gain XP, you don't gain any money.  While some players dedicate all their time PVPing, I'd rather be grinding or doing quests, becoming richer and more powerful than them.
