I've thought about this as well. I just don't know what the premise would be.
In the original Alien, it was a completely unexpected encounter, like John Carpenter's The Thing - a small group of isolated people trying to survive. In the others there were more people and weapons, but it was basically the same. The only way it could fit an mmo is if they got released on earth or somewhere - but by then it would just be Starship troopers (Hmm..now there's an idea).
I've always felt Alien or The Thing would be best executed using a similar system to "The Ship" game (people on a cruise liner murdering each other).
As an IP, I think Dune would be a worse nightmare than SWG. It would have to be watered down to such an extent that most die-hard fans wouldn't go near it. If they could get past that, it might be pretty cool..

Yeah, Aliens really works better in non-MMO format.
Warhammer 40k, however, has excellent potential for neverending epic Tyranid vs. Space Marines conflict.
And of course for non-MMO gaming there's always Natural Selection 2 which is in production (the first NS being the greatest multiplayer FPS game of all time.)

That could be fun to. I want to see Firefly turned into an MMO so badly, that series featured the perfect setting for one.
Here is the thing though, any fanboi of any movie or series or setting can point to it and say "that would make a kickass MMO" and technically be correct. The problem is also that that insert-whatever-here could also make a very crappy MMO.
If anyone landed that IP, I would hope it was Turbine. I think they'd be able to give it a nice combination of FPS and RPG elements. I also think they'd be able to make it a PvP-focused MMO without going the whole hog hardcore route.

I think an Alien or AvP MMO would most deffinately have to be PvP based and full FPS style. It would also require a LOT of things that are not seen in MMOs, such as characters walking on ceilings and leaping off of walls. For some reason the common MMO sticks to everyone being 100% vertical with zero interaction with other vertical objects unless they can hit back.

I think a game as such would be more along the lines of a FPS type game...not so much an mmo.
Well, an mmo is a massive online game, it could be fps style, not all mmo's are rpg's
I think it would be a good mmo only if you had one of the top notch developers working on it. I wouldn't just give a good ip to anyone.
they should turn Dune into an MMO

The original alien vs predator game was fun as hell playing as the alien. Damn that was a good time.
