SotNW closing down?

NovusodNovusod Member UncommonPosts: 912

It is very rare that MMORPGs ever get shut down but Sword of the New World is looking like a prime candidate to be shut down if it is not shut down already. The Servers and website went dark three days ago and are not showing any signs of activity since. This comes a month after puplically announcing the game is in a state of "Dark Ages" by SotNW new lead GM K2-Raiden. This "Dark Ages" came about due to lack of updates, unstables servers, hackers, dupers, mass bans - unbans, and over moderation of the forums supressing player grievances. What few remaining players were left began leaving as the "dark ages" only deepened. The last three days of completely dead servers has got to be the last straw. There has to be a breaking point where losses just have to be cut from both a player point of view and in the interest of the company that runs Sword. It is very possible IMC games just said enough already and just pulled the plug. K2-Raiden was given the impossible task of saving this titanic after it struck an iceberg and he showed good heart in it but it is over now.

Just thought this had to be said since there does not seem to be any other place to write it. SotNW was very a good game at one time and had a lot of potential so it is a shame it fell apart the way it did.

we cant be shure abaut that, but everytime wen korean developer sell to US publisher a F2P game this is happening

    example  RF Online

Erm, there are like 100s of korean free to play games in the US. 1 has closed down. Just becuse this hits a bad patch doesn't mean this is closing, too.

Anyway, supposedly there have been some updates on Twitter, but I don't know the name of the guy doing it (just read about it on the Gamefaqs board for this game).

The more time I spend with K2/G1 playing Sword.  The more I feel like they really don't know what they are doing.  If IMC did decide to drop Sword. I don't think anyone would be surprised.  Out of all the versions of the game for each area.  Sword has the lowest population.  While also being the last or near last in updates.  Hell we don't even have a complete 2.9.1 client because they couldn't figure out how to get Claire to not crash the server.  As well as one or two other things that are also missing that were added in 2.9.1.  The only reason I even play Sword now is because I'm unable to use IAH's sGE cash shop.  The CC option seemed to reject me because of me being US citizen. (And the other ones are directly related to being in that region)  If it didn't Sword would be uninstalled and forgotten.

Website looks to be back up now...sort of...still really wonky.  Load time is horrendous.  No forums yet.

    Buy your G-Points here:

    http://www.gameshop.com.sg

I have bought all my G-Points there over the last two years, and they are reliable and fast. If you order outside their work hours you'll have to wait until they open the next day though because you are buying real life scratch cards. They will send you the Game Time Value Code and Password by email.

Before IAHGames had their own top-up plans on their website they actually linked you to that shop for top-ups.

I've always paid with Paypal but you can pay with your CC as well there. They offer 18.000 or 70.000 G-Point Packages which also include "Adelinas Booty Searches" (game that gives you random ingame items).

So if that's stopping you from playing on the international/english server, your problem is solved ;)

The sGE servers are running smooth on v3.2 and it's quite rare that you see a bot running around.

Well, it didn't close down but it wouldn't suprise me if it had.

The graphics are excelelnt but the combat is really boring. Too bad actually, if they made combat more fun and added some character customization the game could actually get rather good. The setting is nice and the art works very well also.

Good looks isn't enough, the game needs to be fun too and at least for me it didn't work at all. The point and click interface didn't help but I have spent a long time in Guildwars so that is not the problem.

^ Yes, because all MMORPGs that you don't like should shut down. Genius!

Thanks to you and Gurahl99.  I can finally leave G1/K2 SOTNW behind me finally.  I started my family on sGE's Rembrandt server Thursday night.  Was nice that as a new player I was given a 15 day 100% EXP Manual and a 1-day FA pass.  My family is currently already level 70, and I couldn't be happier.  Should finally get around to getting some G-points either Thursday or Friday of this week. In the process of doing Claires and Catherines quest.  With Viki's coming up in 2 levels.

    Edit: Made picture clickable.

So, is the game back up and running now?  I've been trying to play over the last week after they notified us that the servers had been brought back up.  I'm having trouble with the client though.

I've downloaded the client twice and reinstalled a couple times.  Everytime I start the patcher I get an error message saying it failed and that "this could be the communication probelm".  Not sure what that means though.  I tried completely disabling my firewall to see if that was preventing the patcher from talking with the servers, but that didn't help either.  Still getting the error code.

I played during closed beta, and I'd like to see how the game has developed since then, but I can't get the patcher to update the 2.4 client.

If you are having problems with the patcher, try this maybe?

IF you have problems launching the GAME LOOK HERE, Patch/server list/ cannot connect.......

OK IT SEEMS K2-Raiden won't make a new announcement thread about this but i will try to keep this one on the top so all who has problems can get those fixed....

SO if you have problems with the patcher or the game:

    Revision_2.txt (626) download error

    Cannot cnnect tot the server

No serverlist shown in the game client

    Etc....

Use the patch that portcoimbra.com provides

    Direct Link to the Fix

I just had to laugh at this.  It looks like my posting privileages on Sword forum, have been suspended till June 12th. Because I recommended to someone, that they should drop Sword in favor of sGE.  Didn't provide them with a link, or tell them where to get the client.  I guess just mentioning sGE on Sword forums, is a "no no" now.

I've been reading the message boards there and it looks like the new guy is a lot more abrasive and prickly than the former one, Neume.  He was rarely forthright, but he was at least somewhat sheepish about the lack of updates.

The new guy seems to be "We're not updating, and if you don't like it, tough."

Yeah K2-Raiden.  I don't like how he tries to make a joke out of valid concerns.  I forgot what thread it was he closed, but the response he had in it.  As the reason why he closed it.  Was just very unprofessional.  I'm done with K2/G1, they just can't seem to get it together.  Won't communicate what's going on.  Can't get updates in a timely manner.  Can't get bugs/exploits fixed in timely manner.  They constantly kept telling us, that not buying gold does more harm then good.  Yet they don't update or fix anything like a good game host would.  So why should I pay money out of my pocket for that?  I wouldn't for a P2P game, so it's even more so out of the question for a F2P game.
