First you assume that if someone is complaining about a game they have no life, that first assumption is incorrect and ignorant to make based on the fact you know nothing about the people you are speaking to.

The reason many people are upset about the direction this game took was the fact that they played it with real friends and family members, people they hang out with outside of the game, then the developers chose to drive their game into the ground. For example this was a game I could play with my lil sis who is attending college in Pennsylvania, I am in Texas,  I was able to help her on the game so that she could hang with me even though we were greatly different combat levels. That is difficult to do in most games due to the way they are set up, but with this game we were able to play together easily and I could help her be able to do so until they set the trade limits.

It was nice that even though were far apart in distance there was still something we could do together. Though the repetition and lack of rewards in this game and the developers making poor decsions made this game not very enjoyable to play. What many of us hope by expressing our likes and dislikes with games on a gaming forum is that one day developers will bring us better games that meet the players demands. That is not a useless effort. IF we act like we are happy and say nothing about the games, they will assume players are content with chopped liver and we will never be served steaks.

People need to speak up or developers will never realize what they are doing wrong. It is the customer base, that can make this difference by expressing themselves to make developers better understand what it is that we enjoy, and what we would like to see in our games. Keeping quiet about it doesn;t make that happen.

What is sad and pathetic is your spelling and grammar.  Yet somehow  your inability to spell or form a sentence is ecplipsed by your inability to formulate even a most basic logical concept.  You state that complaining about a game is sad, which is in itself a complaint about a complaint about a video game.   If complaining about a video game is sad then complaining about someone complaining about a video game is an epic tradgedy!

Furthermore, there are a myriad of valid reasons to voice one's dissatisfaction in a public forum no matter to what they pertain.  The most obvious is to bring it to the attention of others as a warning that their time might be better spent elsewhere.  Of course there is also the feedback aspect that illuminates areas that could stand to be addressed.  If for nothing else, voicing one's displeasure can serve to eliviate frustration.

I'm sorry your bulb is a bit dimmer than most, but next time just ask someone to explain it to you before you go off making a fool of yourself.

As far as people helping others to get 99s, I always consider that cheating but not like scamming and hacking which is how those not macroing got their 99s. I have always tried to slowly get my own items for all my skills and don't get too much time to play as working aswell as only playing at night so to get sunshine to make vitaminD in my body thus help stop the flu and fatal disease so many of the kids will find far too early in their lives. There were some that genuinely reached their levels including early ingame players that didn't have the huge supply base to rely on, kids now look for any easy way to play a game to max their stats thus lack true skills. I'm sure that for my trying to ask for decency from Jagex they have altered the pixels on my account so even at lvl115 I will never get rich. Compare that to my asking to recover accounts of real life friends and especially a relation who have their high lvl accounts stolen and every one is ignored allowing those hacker thieves to continue to play while the recovery mode has become so user unfriendly now - note the upgrade the hacker was the last to pay members so keeps the account from it's genuine owner!
Nowdays ingame it is a case of mostly high level players so complaints of noob calling have become more just abuse to people they really know or by hacked accounts trying to be banned. With about 600-770 friends long left the game the chat has lost it's appeal aswell but I do have a few very decent long-time friends still on at times although none of us are able to help the others with the big time differences that exist. I mainly wander lost and look forward to 'Tears' time then woow it's 'Penguin Spying' time which after that is more like withdrawl. Sometimes I may stumble across a meteor or an evil tree for something a bit different but without being a PVPer to have the best equipment for experience I can't get too interested in these.
Hacking is still the biggest problem and players must be aware like any game this not only allows them to take accounts by a program on your computer but it can give access to your bank accounts online aswell.
Those that like a variation of game may like 'Tales of Pirates' but it was the paying for each new better wep or armour to take gem things off it to max a weak playing that made me hate it so quick, that with those gems available only in pker areas. So good luck to anyone that likes picking on others behind a screen which is how I see pking!

See, you view this game a bit differently than some because you play it as a single player game. Others do not view it that way, many people play the game with real friends. Most of my friends on this game were people I know outside of the game, we actually do things together, hang out ,have fun...

The citing of how good players are is not limited to video games, this is in all competitive sports. I mean you hear the heckling in baseball and hockey, and it makes video game flaming seem like childs play. you must not have played many team sports seriously.

That is the nature of competition, the world is full of competition. It always will be.   In a game it is no different. People play a multiplayer game to compete.  Why play a multiplayer game if not to compete?  I have helped others  train, but not by "cheating" it was helping friends completely legal in game rules. Such as trading cooked for raws,  That does us both a favor, I don;t want to take the time to cook them , and didn;t need the stats, so why not save some time and have them trade me cooked fish for my raws so I can go back to doing what I was doing? That is not cheating that is helping each other.  That is a fair trade.

I also gave friends gifts in game, made friends and family nats, smithed addy bolts for friends, all free.. my brother gave me all his herbs I made them into pots for him. I gave my lil sis arrows so she could come range with me.  YOu view this as cheating, wheras we viewed this as hanging out and having fun together. Helping a friend, and they help you in return.  You view this as cheating because you are playing solo? We play as a group together. A team, a family just as in real life you do things together and help one another, we enjoy being able to do so on the game.

My friends and family were all levels in the game, which made it difficult for them to be able to do the same things I did. My lvl 54 lil sister could not do the high level activities i did, and even if we tried to kill the same monsters , I would kill them all too fast for her to be able to train.  In order for us to do things together on the game I had to help her, by helping her with supplies she needed, food she needed to keep up. Most of the time anyhow I had to just stand there while she killed her npc's because if I started hiting them there would have been none left for her. LOL

Player killing is not " picking on others behind a screen"  you see ,it is like a sport, it is a competitive sport .  challenging other players to see who wins, the winner takes the spoils, just as the winner takes the spoils in a baseball tournament. the losers do not get to walk home with tshirts and a trophy .. no, that goes to the winners because they had to defeat their opponents to earn it. It is no different in pking, you defeat you opponent and you get your winnings. It is healthy competition.

Having IRL friends playing with you should not be a prerequisite to enjoying an MMORPG.

Yes, yes it should be, for those that enjoy playing a massive multiplayer game with their friends. For those that enjoy solo only play why bother playing a massive multiplayer game at all? I mean they could play a singler player rpg with a chat room and it would be the same expierance for them.

For those of us that  enjoy playing with firends, that enjoy hanging out with our pk teams and clan members, a massive multiplayer platform is the best way to do that because we cn interact with our friends in game as awell as out of game. Whereas,  in most games you cannot play with all your friends at once due to the limits on players.

Wanting a game that we can all enjoy together is a prerequisite to those that enjoy playing that way, rather than just focus on what only you just enjoy in  game there needs to be content for many different types of gamers so they can all enjoy the game together.

This statement is both true and false. True because friends IRL should not stop you from making new better friends in whatever MMO you are into. False because obviously, having friends in real life playing the same game as you do, boosts morale and pushes you to set a goal within the MMO you play whilst sharing interests in MMOs with your friends, making you closer to each other.

Less of course your lame enough to play this crappy game let alone have friends that do to.

When did you start playing "old school" MMO's. World Of Warcraft?

Basically ive seen roughly 2 of you so called "Poes" as you wished to be called in a previous post become trolls. This bothers me because your case against runescape is its a grind. Well i hate to break it to you but all mmorpgs are a grind in someway. Runescape took its game in a direction it thought to be best you disagree but their populations have stayed close to the same. To correct their mistakes they have added new mini games like soul wars to try and bring pvp back. The thing is there never will be a mmorpg without some sort of a grind.

If your going to ban the trolls please for our sake ban the Fan Boys too.

and if you find an mmorpg without grind its probably not a mmorpg

  • BlisseyBlissey Member Posts: 515

All RPG and MMORPG games have some sort of "grind", BUT, other MMORPG games offer different kinds of grinds with different ways and different styles of achieving it using different controls that THE FIRST IMPRESSION of the public WOULD OBVIOUSLY not be a grind, but another classification of experiencing another side of that particular GAME.

Why should it bother you when you could rest your case and accept the fact that all MMORPG indeed have a grind, but Runescape's grinds basically reward you with useless materiel thus nullifying the essense of the grind and instead exposing the true intent , the "bones" of the grind instead?

    Questions:

-What do you classify a grind to be?

-How can you classify all MMORPG's activities as grinds when obviously other MMORPG games require YOU to grind in order to access certain parts of the game? Eg. Second life.

-DO YOU know the meaning of "pointless" grinding, or not?

-If yes, then tell me how exactly Runescape's grinding are not classified as "pointless" grinding?

-If NO, then how come you say "to correct their mistakes they have added...." when you don't even know the true essense of these PvP mini games?

-What is your point when you said the following statement: "Basically ive seen roughly 2 of you so called "Poes" as you wished to be called in a previous post become trolls. "???

-If you claim us to be trolls, where is your proof that we broke the rules that  are pertained to trolling?

-What is the purpose of this attack? Did we attack you in the first place?

I ask you clear questions, I want clear answers.

The case against runescape is not that it is a grind, not at all. It is that there are no rewards for your levels. It is one thing to work hard and it be worth the time you spend getting there, but it  is another that you work hard to be worse off than you were before.

It is like when players work for 99 99 99 melee stats, which actually make you utterly useless for pvp.  Even stats in this game blow even when they are maxed. The  mechanics of the combat system make it so if you are even 99 98 98 melee stats you beat a 99 99 99 melee stat player 15 out of 20 times. That is broken game mechanics .. not good programming.

When you max your stat in cooking in this game you can still burn manta rays. When you max your stat in woodcutting it still takes forver to chop magic logs making them a waste of time. When you max your stat in mining,  you still have to hop world just to mine runite making it a waste of time.  There are no rewards for your levels, the end game is whacked. Instead of giving the appropriate power to a max stat character, they try to weaken them and are now instead giving lvl 80 stats a boost rather than the 99 stats . It is like they punish you for hard work rather than reward it.

The supplies to work skills are worth more than the end product giving it no puropse to train your levels because it is not profitable to do so.  You actually lose $ training your skills than if you just sold the supplies in the first place. The item worth in this game is not based upon difficulty and time it takes to obtain it because the supply and demand is broken. In a proper economy the end product would be worth more than the supplies so that there is profit in training your skills.  It gives you a purpose to train your skills, this game does not have that. A skillcape that allows you to do stupid emotes is not a reward, that is a punishment, and insult to your time and effort you put forth to obtain the maxed stats in this game.
