POLL: Is your favorite MMO your first MMO?

natuxatunatuxatu Member UncommonPosts: 1,364

I thought this was interesting because I've seen it come up a lot. Also it's true for me. The first MMO I played just opened up my mind to a vast world I never knew was possible and to this day, for some reason or another, I can't seem to get the feeling I had when I played my first MMO. So I thought I would take a poll to see how many other people have had a similiar experience.

Plus then the question is... are players of MMOs doomed never to have that great MMO experience more than once?

My first game was... Runescape. I love it to death, but it's not my most favorite. I would have to say my 3rd or 4th, Monster Hunter for ps2 would be my most favorite MMO in history :)

Currently restarting World of Warcraft :/

Yes, Runescape was my first MMO too, but my favorites are Pre-CU SWG and DAOC.

My first MMO was WOW when it was released. I played it for a few weeks, But just didn't like the graphics. Then I found EQ2 and have been there ever since. I'm always playing other mmo's now. But to me EQ2 has been the best. There is just something about that game that just draws me in. No other MMO has done that for me since.

My first MMO was UO, but my favorite is probably EQ, which was my second, but I really have enjoyed some other games since then, and had some of the same sense of discovery in some of them.

Yes, DaoC was my first mmo and still today remains my favorite. Although when I was looking for a game I had one with Irish and Norse Mythology in mind, it just so happened I found DaoC on the shelf, so it really was the ideal game for me in terms of lore.

The Community and RvR is what made it so special though. No other game has come close to capturing that feel and I keep searching. With the shift of MMO's  creating vast worlds fighting over realm goals to arena matches in pvp I doubt any game for quite a while will entertain me like DaoC.

My first MMO was UO and while I loved it to death and played it for nearly 5 years on and off back in the days I have more than one favorite.  I absolutely love EVE, Planetside, World of Warcraft, and UO all the same.  They all gave me a unique experience, I met some great people, had a blast playing them more so than any other MMO I've played.

My first MMO was text based lol. After that was Ultima Online. I gotta say after all the MMOs ive played EverQuest and Pre-CU SWG are tied for the best.

my first mmo was Asherons Call and was and probably will always be among the best. Played for 6 years til I got vista and could never get it to play.

My first MMO was Ultima Online.  While it was amazing, and groundbreaking at the time, the genre has evolved SO much since then that I have to admit that I have enjoyed many other MMO's much more.  I will openly admit that WoW is probably my favorite game amongst them.

I was generally able to ignore the community and play only with those whom I actually enjoyed playing with.  That goes a long way in making that game more fun.

My first MMO was EQ. I'm not sure if that is my favorite, or if DAoC is. I should say the game they both used to be. Neither are worth playing after all the expansions completely changed the games.

My first MMO was Eve Online, about 5 years ago. Not my favorite, but not bad either.

I spent most of the last 4 years playing WoW, but that's not my fav either. Don't think I have a fav MMO, I usually like the one I'm playing at that moment and then I find something better/more fun.

Is your favorite MMO your first MMO? Partial NO, meaning I played Meridian59, UO, and enjoyed them but do not consider them to be my favorite, tried EQ several times but for some reason couldn't get into to it, The partial YES is with Star Wars Galaxies, the time spend in those previous MMORPG's stand very pale against time spend and time enjoyed in SWG, it was the first MMORPG that to me felt more like I could actualy life out my fantasy by being a character in the Star Wars universe, M59 and UO while fun felt like games not so much world like. The whole game felt like the MMORPG title given to it was the way how MMORPG would evolve, bring a world to it's players, boy was I wrong...........

Depending on how you define MMO, some of the first games I played were text-based MUDs and while those had a lot going for them, most people wouldn't consider them MMOs.  The first graphical MMO I ever played was EverCrack, it wasn't bad but I got tired of it pretty quickly.  I've played quite a few over the years, probably my favorite right now is Anarchy Online, mostly because all of my friends are there and the community is good.  Otherwise, there just aren't any MMOs out there that appeal to me at the moment.

Played: UO, EQ, WoW, DDO, SWG, AO, CoH, EvE, TR, AoC, GW, GA, Aion, Allods, lots more
Relatively Recently (Re)Played: HL2 (all), Halo (PC, all), Batman:AA; AC, ME, BS, DA, FO3, DS, Doom (all), LFD1&2, KOTOR, Portal 1&2, Blink, Elder Scrolls (all), lots more
    Now Playing: None
    Hope: None

My first MMO was The Realm, and games have come a looooong way since then.

  • IhmoteppIhmotepp Member Posts: 14,495

First was EQ. Wow, what an incredible game. However, I thought that hte PvE in DAoC was still very good, AND the addition of RvR made it and even better game.

Haven't seen anything as good as DAoC since.

I had fun in CoH, but the scaling dungeons made it feel kinda of weak and not challenging in the least. I'm hoping TOR will be fun, but it could end up just being another solo fest.

My first MMO was SWG and I have to say that it was by far my favorite MMO to date.  Much of that had to do with the people I met and the community more than the actual game itself.  I do find that I miss those days of "first" experiences in the realm of MMORPG'dom that I had with SWG.  I suppose it may be like the first time you snort blow or your first kiss, because its first I have a tendency to romanticize the experience probably beyond the reality of the actual event.

My first MMO was Runescape, but since that doesn't really count my first MMO was WoW. And no, it's definitely not my favorite MMO, in all honesty I think WoW is a horrible game in so many ways. To answer your plus question: no. I'm enjoying GW greatly and that wasn't my first MMO, counting from when I started playing it seriously it's probably my third or fourth MMO actually.
