Cap and Trade passed, Get ready to empty your pockets in the US

outfctrloutfctrl Member UncommonPosts: 3,619

So much for no new taxes.  Obama = LIAR, and the gullible people who voted for the CHOSEN ONE for lower taxes can now sit back and pay...pay...pay...including the people who didnt vote for him......LOL

Thanks allot

These are taxes. These are taxes on the consumers of American energy. So if you have electricity in your home or in your office, or if you drive a vehicle, or if you use electricity or oil or gas or energy of any kind, you will be paying a tax. And that tax will amount to $646 billion in new taxes, which will come out of your pocket.

So 100 percent of the people who use energy in this country will pay 100 percent of the taxes that will be levied pursuant to the Cap and Trade bill.

Now, this means that a typical consumer, in their electric bill in their home, will see about a 62 percent increase in their utility bills. And businesses, small businesses--such as you and the gentleman from Tennessee have been discussing--will see a 100 percent increase. They will see a doubling in their utility rates.

And, of course, other fuels will increase as well, including gasoline--which, once again, makes me recall my friend who brings groceries into the Wind River Reservation in Wyoming and the hardships that will be imposed on regular Americans as a consequence of Cap and Trade legislation.

In addition, the proposed budget by the President includes an enormous array of taxes on the oil and gas industry, which will, once again, be passed on to consumers in America--that is if the industry here survives.

lol lets be fair here. He is the only president that Promised new taxes and got Elected... this was Expected and Stupid.

But im sure this will be filled with liberals talking about how great it is.

Last I checked the house couldn't pass bills alone.

The senate hasn't passed anything yet.  Don't jump the gun.

ya you beat me to it.  He actually was pretty thorough and honest during the debates on how he was going to get the country out of debt

Curious, does this mean you also do not want cap and tax?

I honestly don't know.  I can see both sides.

Well, about to get flamed but....

Look, new taxes always suck. Always. No exception. But a couple points here...

    1)  The country is so far in debt it's insane, and that debt is helping to cripple teh entire world economy. Money has to come from somewhere.

    2)  I note you don't mention large businesses. I'm pretty sure the biggest energy-hogs of all are gonna have it worse. As it should be.

    3) Seems like a good incentive for every American citizen to start thinking about how they can save energy, doesn't it?

It's a tough call for me.  On the one hand we have to reduce dependence on oil and ideally develop a reliable alternative fuel source.

On the other hand, I don't want these big companies to start leaving the U.S. to go somewhere where they can pollute freely.

I think I support it simply because this forces the hand of some companies to change their ways.  They aren't going to change their ways as long as they know it works.

It's not about pollution (although that is a bonus) it's about becoming energy independent.

Thank you for briging up two very good points I missed.

I mean, I'm not happy about the utility blls I pay now, much less asking for more...but if it reduces pollution, helps gt teh US out of debt, and reduces our dependence on fossil fuels and foregin oil, it MIGHT not be a bad idea.

There is a reason the vote was so close:  nobody really knows what is in the bill.  It was ramrodded through by Pelosi, yes Pelosi, and not even all her own Democrats wanted to sign on for something they didn't fully understand.  The darn thing by the end of Friday had 1200 pages and 300 pages of addendum.  And they still voted.  Honestly I feel it is an example of how broken our government has become.  Why would you vote something into law if you didn't fully understand the law?

Anyway, I don't think it will pass the Senate.  By the time it gets to a vote there, lawyers will have had weeks to look over the document rather than the days the House had to see it's final form and the hours they had to see it's form with additions from committee.  Plus, it hasn't even been fully released to the public yet.  Which is just crazy if you ask me.

I don't know what your getting at with this post.  The house passing a bill does not mean it's law, which is what I said in my first reply.

You seem to think that because the house passed it, it's law and a man in a black suit is going to show up at your house tomorrow to take your money.

The House passes.  Next step is the Senate, then on to the president.  That's how the legislative system works.

Do you know what Socialism is?  I don't normally comment on the people here who talk about Socialism because out of everyone who talks about it there are maybe 3 people who know what it is.

And the fact that you think Fascism is that close to Socialism just compounds the appearance that you're clueless.

ahh perhaps you refer to that stupid needle pointing at fascism on the right side and socialism on the left?

you think that's a fact because it's what you were told to think.

fascist mentality is quite common on the left.  and they love socialism...so his perception isn't far off the mark

but go ahead and call us ignorant cause it makes you feel smarter

I think the bill is retarded and just goes to show you how little democrats think for themselves.  How can you approve a bill you haven't even begun to read?  If any bill comes down that is 1500 pages, you can be assured its filled with more pork then a Butcher Shop.  Anyone can tell this bill would kill jobs and increase consumer spending over 50%.

Its not going to pay off debt, its going to more government spending.  I am just mad that my rep is already a republican, I have no one to complain to.

The job of people in congress whether democrat or republican is to pass legislation that corporations give to them. They aren't there to read it and they aren't there to serve the interests of the people.

There are corporations that stand to make a tremendous amount of profit over the cap and trade system so they are interested in getting it passed so they can control the new profit streams. The fact it increases government spending is great, because it transfers public money to private power. In other words, corporate welfare.

Men fear thought as they fear nothing else on earth -- more than ruin -- more even than death.... Thought is subversive and revolutionary, destructive and terrible, thought is merciless to privilege, established institutions, and comfortable habit. Thought looks into the pit of hell and is not afraid. Thought is great and swift and free, the light of the world, and the chief glory of man. -- Bertrand Russell
