And you miss the counter point which is that people who pay for the game now know they're not buying a finished product. They see honest, hard working devs striving to create something great, and don't mind helping them out even though there is a chance they might fail.

Anyway yes, it was a bit pricey this has been discussed in the other 3 threads why did you create a new one?

And the collector's edition box is useless too, especially if a game flops and you quit in a couple months. You will probably throw it out and never look at the artbook after the first day again.

    So, your point is what?

This price is way too high for a game that has proven nothing to us.

Lol I can see the same crowd that was attracted to Darkfall are attracted to this, same mentality!

I don't think its about the fact they are a small company or any of that, I think its the fact that its near on double the price of a normal game whether it be single player or mmorpg, for a game, no one has played, you don't have a secure place in a beta(which is more work than play anyways) and to be fair isn't going to be playable till september or something, that you'll be able to play 30 days for before having to pay more to play it.

There used to be uproar on the fact you had to buy a MMORPG for x amount in a shop and then also pay for it each month, but to pay an obscene amount of cash on a game u may or even may not play is kinda dumb...wierd....stupid...all of the above lmao. Each to their own I guess, I might make a vid and some pics get it splattered around the net and get people to preorder it, hmmm wat a great way of getting money lol.

    Fixed that for you.

What you guys fail to realize is that some people have disposable income, and aren't living paycheck to paycheck to where they think $75 is a lot of money.  It really isn't even a day's wage for an experienced professional in many industries.

I paid it, and would do so  again, simply because I want to support these developers based on their feature set and the fact that I personally like how they've handled themselves thus far in their relations with the player base.

Its really no more complicated than that, but those of you presuming to tell others what is and isn't expensive and what they should/shouldn't be spending their money on is quite amusing.

The only safe zones in real life are where you are locked up by yourself from the inside in a strongly secured room, or everyone around you is strongly secured to the ground/wall away from you. And, the game has PK penalties.

I am pretty poor, but $75 is nothing to me either. I just bought a 42" Vizio LCD, new bed, new desks, new floor, mouse, headset, dressers, paint, Tv stand with mount and tons of stuff from only 2 months work. I spend money, but on things I know are worth my money.

My point is, I waited around the Darkfall forums 3-4 months before release, fell for that hype(Dev lies). Then, I finally got in beta,  I played Darkfall beta and then never bought it. I saw all these same posts there and I was even into that game thinking it would be the best MMO ever until I played it.

I hope for your sake MO is nothing like that, but from what I see it will be just as bad if not worse since you paid to basically alpha test the game from what it says on the MO website.

So, why pay these companies? You are just supporting scams. There is a lot better ways to spend $75 than this. Do you want all MMOs to release in alpha and make you pay $100 to work for them from now on? I do not and will not support this.

I would take my girl out to the movies over this for $75 any day. If you have so much money to brag about, go out and spend it instead of writing about it on here man....

It has nothing to do with bragging.  As I said, I chose to support StarVault because they've displayed a level of professionalism that AV/Darkfall lacked, and an accessibility that you don't normally find with game developers.

Is it a roll of the dice?  Sure, but you're talking out of your ass by calling it a scam, because you have absolutely no way of knowing that until it releases.

I respect your decision not to pay what they're asking, but posting on forums about how they're 'charging too much' is really just making you (and others with similar posts) look like an idiot.

This is basic economics.  The market determines pricing, and as of now, thousands of people have decided that SV's pricing is to their satisfaction.

    End of argument.

    Such ignorance.

Shipping a game from Europe to the US is the reason it costs this extra $15. Shipping is so f* expensive. I'm frequently purchasing stuff from NA and EU, and living in SA (South America), I always pay a $10~15 in shipping cost, sometimes it costs more than the produt itself.

Just wait for your digital download option if you don't care about boxes and it will cost your standard $50.

Or, wait until the game releases in NA, that way you also won't expose yourself to a buy-another-copy-if-you-want-to-play-in-the-NA-servers extra cost.

I know you wouldn't for a fact. The game has or has planned full frontal male and female nudity, and if they wanted it to be on game store shelves it would require an ESRB or similar rating. Full frontal nudity would earn it an Adults Only rating, which no popular stores are willing to support.

Yea they used that as they saw many people bought AOC just for nudity, another reason I would never buy this game. Using that kind of cheap tactic to draw a certain type of person to the game shows they lack much content and real reasons to buy it.

They would never sell it on store shelves outside Europe (If even there) because they can't afford to put it in stores, that is the real reason, same as Darkfall.

Do you realize what you just said has no relevance? It's not everyday that Indie developers with financial backing, and shown talent start developing promising MMOs. I could see you having an argument if they were promising a 100% feature complete, polished game, but they're not, so you don't.

The devs have stated that they will deliver what they can with no promises, if anyone has thrown money at them without doing a little researching that's their own damn fault.

I understand your point, and I agree with you to an extent.

However, due to the nature of these games and their development costs, I don't believe an MMO will ever truly be ready when it is launched.  Some are more playable than others (LotRo was pretty smooth for example), but these companies are always going to rush crap out the door because at the end of the day, the bean counters and executives are calling the shots, not the designers and programmers (who would probably rather continue working on and polishing their product than release it half-finished).  With Mortal, the development process is at a point where I felt like by getting into beta and making my voice heard, I could potentially affect the final product.  That chance was worth $75 to me.

Also with Mortal, I just had a good feeling about it for multiple reasons, a feeling I haven't had when dealing with a game company for many years, if ever.  I realize this is unquantifiable and likely sounds silly to some, but its why I supported an unfinished product.  My hope is that they won't waste my money like so many of the larger companies do.  If I'm wrong and its a piece of shit, it will be the last time I pay for a beta, and you'll be a wiser man than I.  Until then though, I'll stand by my support for the way they're doing things.

I've been involved in both the Darkfall and MO communities from the beginning, and in my opinion, you can't compare either the products or the ways the two companies do business.  Its night and day.

    Think about my point.

DO YOU WANT MMOS to all release as Alphas that make you pay to alpha test them? If you do, go ahead and buy Darkfall and MO and others that try to follow this easy path to money.

I want games to come out as finished as possible, polished and fully enjoyable and to only pay for the product once it is in acceptable playable form.

That is my reason for being against MO's pricing and stratgey here. They saw how Darkfall was drawing players and money in and copied the exact format to make easy money without putting in the work to finish their game up enough for us to have a nice product before we pay.

Do you understand my point? If not, I will just say I am not trolling or makin stuff up or just spamming for no reason. I want us customers to have good products down the MMO road, not unfinished unplayable crap we have to stil pay for.

Yea I have no problem with you paying if you know you will be alpha testing this game and that it may never make it past a beta state.

If you are happy doing it and have fun dealing with bugs, hacks, exploits, crashes and down time and most of the players leaving within a couple months, it is fine. I just know that many people are expecting to have a full game with tons of fun ready to go. This will take over a year to even get to a beta stage with the few devs they have and limited resources and money.

AOC was released in late beta stage and it is now over a year and they are finally at a point where they can say the game is in a true release state. And they have 1,000,000 times more money than Starvault has and backing.

Yea Darkfall made it so I will never trust any DEV until i play the game again. When I got in beta nd compared the actual "game" to the expectationas and pomises I had to leaugh. When my friend asked me about it the next week, I felt embarrassed I ever showd him the forums/site and got him excited about it.

I am going to stop posting about MO until I see what you and others say once you try it out a couple months, good luck brave MMO gamers and hopefully I will play along side you one day in the MO world if you guys can stay with it and get them to make a game we can all enjoy one day, GL guys!

You're saying these things like it will cause me some sort of distress. Those people that are expecting the game to be perfect at release obviously havn't done their homework, in fact, if they expect any MMO at all to release without a single issue they're fooling themselves. They can go ahead and leave, and I won't miss them, because they just jumped on the hype wagon in the first place, and are most likely people I won't like to play with, since they leap before they look, so what's to stop them from being total asshats in the game? Not their head apparently.

I really couldn't care less what other game companies have lied about or done, and the amount of financial backing is irrelevant as long as they're able to work with what they have.
