Is this game free to play?!?!

linedawglinedawg Member UncommonPosts: 123

I was downloading this game and as I was creating a user account (I did not finish that step yet) I noticed in the under “Agree terms of Use” that there was mentions of fees that may apply. Is this just a blanket agreement from the company or is there some hidden fee associated with this game? I just wanted to make sure that this game was free before I committed myself by creating a user account. Below are some sections under the user agreement that caught my eye (marked in red)

3. Prices

Usage fees for our websites and online games comply with the currently valid price lists for FOG products. The currently valid price list can be found on each online-game's respective website. Prices are subject to change. FOG will contact the user by e-mail in case of price changes. Price changes are considered as approved, if the user doesn't object to the change either in writing or by e-mail within a period of four weeks after notification of the change. FOG is obliged to inform the user of the consequences of an uncontradicted expiring date.

5. Payment methods

5.1 All subscription fees for the contract duration are payable in advance. They become due the day after the free play time has ended. All subscription fees are quoted including Value Added Tax.

5.2 FOG accepts the following payment methods: automatic debit transfer from German bank accounts, bank transfer and credit card (Visa and Mastercard only).

5.3 Payment by bank transfer is possible only for subscriptions of 3 months or longer.

5.4 FOG processes credit card payments and bank transfers for it's customers. All payment data entered by the user will be checked by FOG for validity.

5.5 If extra costs arise for FOG out of user's fault (e.g. cancellation fees because of lack of funds or fees for return debit notes), the user has to pay all extra costs and FOG is permitted to charge those additional costs together with the original fees from the user's bank account or credit card. If the user pays with credit card or by direct debit, FOG reserves the right to charge an additional handling fee of 9.60 Euro plus all accrued bank charges per incident.

5.6 Complaints about the amount invoiced have to be made immediately either in writing or by e-mail, but not later than six weeks after the invoice has been received. Failure of duly objection against the amount invoiced will be considered as acceptance of the invoice. FOG will advise it's users about the consequences of forbearing a warranted complaint.

The game is free, but it has an online store, and is run by a back ground company.

Ok got yea they have a micro payment system set up for the game. Thank you very much for the answer to my question, I just saw that in the user agreement and I wanted to make sure that there were no hidden fees. Thank you very very much.

A good rule of thumb: If you didn't put your credit card information in, anywhere, you didn't pay for anything.

True, I did not make it that far as to set up and account. I was reading the terms of use / agreement and saw a few things in regards to payments I just wanted to clarify before committing myself to anything. But that is a good rule to go by for online games and I’ll have to remember that.

You'll do pretty well for yourself, being that careful. And not just in playing mmo's.I think you'll enjoy the game though, if you like the wow/lotro type games. It being free to play makes it that much better. I hear though in the later levels, to get good stuff, you'll have to buy diamonds from the shop, but I don't know. I didn't get very far in it. The length I did play it, I enjoyed it a lot.

yup the game is totally free..! there isn't any subscription fees so we can play the game as long as we want without even spending a single penny.  but ofcourse there is an in game cash shop to purchase items but dont feel obligated to spend your money.  I've been playing the game for a long time and I've been able to purchase items in the cash shop without spending real money. Although I did spend 10 bucks on a permanent horse once I started the game to avoid walking everywhere. which I found totally worth it compared to the subscription fees of WoW.
