Personally i didnt care for EQ1 that much.. I would recommend Vanguard or wait for Aion... Aion seems to catch that EQ1 feeling alot.. And it comes out in September get the pre order and you can get in on the weekend betas

We are speaking of EQ 2 not 1 I think.

I use to play EQ2 and liked it then, I haven't played in over a year point five, so I don't know anymore what to say.

For some reason Aion does not attract me so much, I mean it looks good graphicaly and character customization looks like a blast but actual gameplay looks used. Used meaning it has already been given to us through other games. Right now all i'm looking for is lore/good environment/decent graphics and of course a development team that supports the game.

my bad i just woke up... Ya EQ2 was what i meant... I didnt care for it.. was a very lackluster dull gameworld... with very limited play... it was like the devs said we want to take away all the tactics that made EQ1 what it was and put it in a new shinier but duller looking world.

EQ2 was not that good of a game... which sucks because i was a HUGE EQ1 fan. I would say try a different game there are much better ones available

Ohh and Aion is more like EQ1 than EQ2 is like EQ1.... its pretty amazing.. THe game world is full of lore and has an amazing story behind it..

I am not an Aion Fan.. I consider what many would call a Core gamer I suppose.. Aion just seemed to hit it right. You should read my post in the Aion Area about  How Aion is more comparable to EQ1 than to WOW.

if you like doing tons and tons of killing quests and running around finding npc quests then sure

  • Markn12Markn12 Member Posts: 222

    Heres a simple answer :)

Everquest 2 is quite frankly one of the best MMORPGs there is in the current state the game is amazing,  If this was the product they had when it was released it would have 5-6 times the population maybe higher.    Give it a shot the whole game is amazing but i admit around 25-40 it gets alittle slow and you gotta get through them levels but the end game is amazingly done and tons of content.   Plus graphics wise it rivals most games released to this day despite being an older game.

Whoever said the world is dull is just plain wrong.  The world is gorgeuous and the graphics are good.

(oh and im not some dumbass eq2 fanboy)  I dont play the game anymore.

There's a 14 day trial so you can always try it first. Sure, you're stuck on the island, but at least you can test it out.

When was the last time you played eq 2 ?  The launch was HORRIBLE the beta was pathetic but they have cleaned the game up and it runs great and looks great now.  Id say its a complete 180 from what the game was like on release.

  • cybertruckercybertrucker Member UncommonPosts: 1,117

Graphically advanced wise yes... Artisttic Direction in EQ2 was and is Horrid... The game world doesnt mesh either. To many hard lines.

Now content EQ2 has a plethora of.. I will give that to the game. Unfortunately its the play our way or no way at all mentality that really ruined the game. Its hard to describe what i mean by that I just felt the game was a zerg fest. They took out so many tactics you find in other games like pulling tactics and fear kiting... They could have called it Everzerg 2...

Like I said there are many games out there that are better.. Age of Conan is taking HUGE steps in the right direction from their dev team... I would recommend that over EQ2... Aion seems to be hitting on all cynlinders and they really seemed to get it right. I would highly recommend taking a look at it. If you were at all an EQ1 fan.

last time i played was back in November when I closed my station Access due to the fact I was leaving vanguard... I really logged in just a few times and attempted to play my conjuror.. and I just dont care for the game.. Which is Sad because i Love norrath... Vanguard was the sequal that EQ2 should have been..

I would go back to Vanguard we actually because my friends and I took a break to go try out Warhammer... But started looking at Aion. We all pre ordered it and well I have to say I was just totally amazed and impressed... Now I cant wait to see what more Aion is going to have to offer. Due to the fact it actually made me reminisce (spelling?) about EQ1 which struck me as odd. and it actually runs amazingly well as amazing as the graphics are in the game.

id agree with you that the OP should try Aion but hes asking about a PVE game (eq2) not a PVP game like AION.  You can say it has PVE but the end zone is the abyss an open PVP zone with PVE Content, RVR etc etc.   Ill be trying it :)

well EQ2 used to be a very deep mmo...if one cared to look for it, but sadly EQ2 is nothing but what I expect WoW is now.   at lvl 80 instance grinding...nothing else

so...if you want to try it be sure to enjoy the lower lvls

or if like the instance grinding  takes about 3 weeks to get to 80....if not a 2hs per day player

I would say yes but do the trial first,it might be a long download though. You can try any race and class but your chat options will be limited and you wont be able to own a house or use the broker to buy / sell . Population wise, Antonia Bayle, Crushbone and Nagafen servers ,I think are the most populated but I play on Befallen , a very low pop . Dev wise, I dunno about that to much.

Game offers lots of content, you will mostly solo but I found guilds are very helpful, especially in this game compared to some others. If ya need help choosing race/class, I can brief you on those as well, well back to leveling =)

    Waiting on Guild Wars 2

highly recommend questing in Darklight woods or Timorous Deep as a new player

    - they are newer starting zones with better questing

Aion is a PvP oriented game.  Kinda puts it into a genre more like DaoC then eq...  Anyway I've played Aion and it is pretty hard core PvP so make sure that's what you are expecting.  The PvPvE thing is just some BS term them made to try to capture more poeple that like PvE style games.

The population is good but pretty much all high end.  Lower level population is kinda sparse.  On a plus note however eq2 supports something called mentoring that lets a high lvl player group with you and drop their level down ot you level.  This gives you some bonus xp and lets the high lvl person get AAs doing things they missed when the leveled up.

So if you want to do an instance just broadcast in the 1-9 chat channel and you will likely get good response from higher level players.

The game is really good the first go around from 1 to 80.  You can solo all the way their if you like but the grouping game is better at least in my opinion.  Like some other posters have said the grouping game at the lower levels is sparse, most everyone is 70 plus now.

Once I hit level 70 I didn’t like the game as much.  My casual guild didn’t do all the instance in Kunark and that really hurt us when TSO came out.  They should have done a better job of smoothing out the transition gear wise from expansion to expansion.  After my guild grinded out several of the easier instances in TSO grayed out and improved our gear with the T1 armor we did much better and had a lot of fun.  I’m just not crazy with the gear grind end game they have now since I don’t raid.  With 2 level 80’s I couldn’t see myself doing it all over again so I cancelled.  BUT the game is great up to level 70.   This entire post is just my opinion and you may love it past 70.  I think you should try it.  I loved my time in Norrath.  Have fun!

Its a fine game, but the severe lack of population is always why I stop playing.

  • grandpagamergrandpagamer Member Posts: 2,221

Yes low population is a problem. I was in a guild with nice people but most of them had been around the game for years and seemed to spend most of their time crafting. The game itself is a very good game with more to do than any other MMO ive played but i just felt like i was late to the party.

Hmm not sure why you would feel this way.  At 70 there are tons of new quests and great equipment upgrades from quests. Kunark has a number of new instances you can do with groups or you can still do the ones from the previous expansion at the early 70s.  Then getting to TSO really at 80 you can do the first tier instances and get even more nice upgrades.  I really think running TSO instances grayed out is an exploit.  I've never done it.  I've run all the other TSO instances, some of them not to the end but there are a lot of them and a great variety.  I think TSO was a great expansion.  Without it I would have stopped playing a long time ago.  I guess I love grouping so for me it is fun and there are enough of them that it doesn't get boring, like running the few Kunark dungeons would.

After you do the TSO instances now they got a couple 2X raid zones that you can get into without requiring a huge raid. I've run them numberous times doing pickups.

Anyway I just wanted to contrast and say that for me the game was best for 70+
