Darkfall is pretty solid so far - though very hardcore.

I'm a long time MMORPG veteran since Ultima and I've read everything about DF. I waited until the NA servers opened up and finally bit the bullett and bought it, even after reading all of the horror stories and bashing of the game.

There is no doubt, Darkfall isn't for the "click and win" types, it's a very hardcore game where everything you do affects your skills.

I'm going full mage, heading to being a Necro, just because NEC's are my thing and grinding level points is harsh. It's something I do in my spare time or while I'm doing other things on the other computers.

It takes time, but I know the reward for getting to higher levels and abilities will be worth it in the PVP end game and I'm actually excited about.

I believe that as this game grows, it will get more and more exciting.

If you are just bored with everything else out there, tired of trying all of the Free copies of eachother etc, then give DF a try. It's actually pretty slick.

    "it's a very hardcore game"

I'm sorry, but a game that requires better than 75% of its players to macro skills to be able to compete isn't "hardcore" in my view.

I can agree that the grind is stupid, but the gameplay would have been rough even without the grind. Darkfall makes UO pre trammel look like a walk in the park. In UO we had recall and hiding as a newbie, in Darkfall you can just die. Your only hope is to be close to the guardtowers.

    I do like the game.

I wish there was a trial for this game!  I really want to try it.  It sounds like old school AC.  I remember macroing my skills.  Thats not really a bad thing either.  I loved AC, and is still the best game in my opinion.

I didn't realize the definition of "hardcore" meant afk macroing while you're doing other things.

Sorry, but all your post does is reinforce the fact that the game's skill system is poorly designed.

You shouldn't go for necro its more expensive than fire, earth, water, or air. Earth has good buffs and decent damage spells and is cheaper than fire.

Guard towers, and universal banks? Sounds hardcore to me. Oh wait no, thats bullshit. my mistake.

So if everyone went to Eve online and started cheating, would that game no longer be hardcore?

If 100000 hardcore players went to free realms and started dominating in every aspect, would that game no longer be casual?

The game is hardcore, the players are what you're judging.

  • neorandomneorandom Member Posts: 1,681

no video game is hardcore because no video game kills you when you lose, if you died in real life for dieing in darkfall, that is the only way it could be hardcore.

It cracks me up when anyone says that anything is "hardcore".  I think "hardcore" is an opinion and in my opinion, this game is not hardcore.  Naked zergs and universal banking does not equal "hardcore."

Harcore is nothing more than a term used to make one nerd feel superior to another nerd. Frankly its ridiculous on so many levels. MMA? Id say thats hardcore. A soldier fighting for his country? Hardcore. Getting arrested during a demonstration? Hardcore. Hell flying down the side of a mountain on skis going 50 mph. Hardcore. What do all these things have in common that makes me think hard core? They put your health and well being at risk. Sitting on your fat pompice ass trying to pretend you are better than everyone else in a video game? the farthest freakin thing Ive ever heard from "hardcore".

Its called ffa forum pvp and if you want something a little less hardcore then you might want to consider df.

    Trolls = Hardcore
    Fanbois = Carebears

The only posts I read in threads are my own.

I just re-read the other posts... could you point out the "flaming"?

I see other posters disagreeing with the OP.

I see other posters giving their opinion of the topic raised by the OP.

Once again it seems that some on this forum mistake disagreement and differing opinion for "Flaming" and "Trolling".  Perhaps the whole notion of an internet forum and how it generates differing opinions is a foreign concept.

Oh well... maybe they'll catch on in time.

It's ok to disagree, but don't call me an Aventurine bot. That's just silly.

And yes, the game is hardcore because in order to level skills you have to Grind like nobodies business. I don't cheat in MMO's and use apps and scripts to get the edge. That would be like me fighting an MMA match with a roll of quarters in my hands because I NEED that edge to succeed. Problem is, with our current youth in gaming, everyone looks for the easiest way to accomplish anything at the expense of ethics and often morals.

If you use macros and hacks for games, you are just another internet weakling that has proven incapable of standing on your own two feet and years from now in your 30's when you are sucking down Mt.Dew in your mothers basement, still a virgin and wondering where you went wrong, know that it was because you didn't have what it took to accomplish things the right way and this is your reward for failure.

    See you in game!

The only person who called you a "bot" was another fan of the game.

Not sure what that post of his was about... you'll have to ask him about it.

Everyone else in the thread seems like they've been doing a pretty good job at being civil.

Requires?  Nothing is making people macro.  It is a choice, and not one that I have made.  I've been playing since release and have probably gotten through about 50% of my character's development.  Sure I may lose a 1v1 against someone who macros, but I am in a clan, we roll out in groups, and fight when the numbers are even or to our advantage.  So what if you die.  It's just gear and it's all easily replaceable.  I compete successfuly and I enjoy the game.

So... Doing something other than playing the game for 26 hours a day to level up = you'll be a 30 year old virgin living in your mom's basement?

Your logic is obviously far beyond me.
