The National Terror Alert site

Seven individuals have been charged with conspiring to provide material support to terrorists and conspiring to murder, kidnap, maim and injure persons abroad, David Kris, Assistant Attorney General for the National Security Division; George E.B. Holding, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina; and Owen D. Harris, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s Charlotte Field Division, announced today.

On Wednesday, July 22, 2009, a federal grand jury in the Eastern District of North Carolina returned a sealed seven-count indictment against the following defendants:

Daniel Patrick Boyd, 39, a U.S. citizen and resident of North Carolina
Hysen Sherifi, 24, a native of Kosovo and a U.S. legal permanent resident located in North Carolina
Anes Subasic, 33, a naturalized U.S. citizen and resident of North Carolina
Zakariya Boyd, 20, a U.S. citizen and resident of North Carolina
Dylan Boyd, 22, a U.S. citizen and resident of North Carolina
Mohammad Omar Aly Hassan, 22, a U.S. citizen and resident of North Carolina
Ziyad Yaghi, 21, a U.S. citizen and resident of North Carolina

All the defendants are charged with conspiracy to provide material support to terrorists, as well as conspiracy to murder, kidnap, maim and injure persons abroad. In addition, Daniel Boyd, Hysen Sherifi and Zakariya Boyd are each charged with possession of a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence. Daniel Boyd and Dylan Boyd are also each charged with selling a firearm to a convicted felon. Finally, Daniel Boyd is also charged with receiving a firearm through interstate commerce and two counts of making false statements in a terrorism investigation.

This is Daniel Boyd.

I don't think these guys are ever going to see the light of day again unless they have a really, really good public defender.

    White al qaeda!

    RUN!!!

Glenn Beck tried to warn us.

Of course, just like always, this will turn out to be a FBI sting.  The FBI will admit that they hired a few mentally deficient people to pretend to be terrorists, or talk them into saying something stupid over beers at the local pub.  Its the same every single time. Really getting way too predictable.

    Comedy- 1.

    Facts- 0.

Officials said the group was led by Daniel Patrick Boyd, a married 39-year-old who lived in an unassuming lakeside home in a rural area south of Raleigh, where he and his family walked their dog and operated a drywall business. But two decades ago, Boyd, who is a U.S. citizen, trained in terrorist camps in Pakistan and Afghanistan and fought against the Soviets for three years before returning to the United States.

An indictment released Monday does not detail any specific terrorist plans or targets overseas, although it claims some of the defendants traveled to Israel in 2007 with the intent of waging "violent jihad" and returned home without success.

Easy to say "mentally deficient". It's handy to say they all are mentally crazy. Even when they aren't and that's why these guys succeed a lot of times. Underestimation.

How do you think the government's official version of 9/11 would fly unless we paint them as mental patients? Easier to say "19 crazed terrorists" got "lucky" than to say "19 determined, intelligent terrorists" because we wouldn't want to admit 19 smart terrorists actually were able to carry out that act vs the entire law enforcement efforts of the U.S. Americans would be scared out of their minds if they actually thought these guys could think.

Muslims come in every color. Not just .. non-white people. I have no idea why you are surprised unless you believe the usual propaganda.

Stereotyping and underestimation of one's enemy... it's a bad thing that will get you killed.

I'm just glad to see our intelligence agencies working and having success at catching people before they do harm.  This is what government is supposed to do, to protect us citizens.

According to the indictment, from late 2006 until at least July 2009, Mr Boyd and the other defendants engaged in a conspiracy to advance violent jihad abroad.

It says Mr Boyd and several other defendants travelled to Israel in June 2007 in an ultimately unsuccessful attempt to engage in violent jihad.

Another defendant, Ziyad Yaghi, 21, allegedly travelled to Jordan in October 2006 to commit violent acts.

It is not the first case of its kind in the US. In May this year, five men were convicted of conspiring to blow up the Sears tower in Chicago.

In January 2008, Muslim convert Jose Padilla was sentenced to more than 17 years in prison for plotting to kill people overseas and of supporting terrorism.

Basically these guys were buying and selling weapons both domestically, and for shipment overseas. The FBI possibly used a convicted felon in an undercover sting operation to purchase a weapon. Either that, or these guys were selling weapons to convicted felons also. In short, they were gun runners, and didn't care whether they sold to Jamal, or Willie Horton (Mike Dukakis ad), as long as the buyer paid cash.

Terrorism is a public relations charge, Here, in Detroit, right after 9/11, Ashcroft's Justice Department charged a group of Arabs that had false identifications with terrorism, it later turned out they were involved in identity theft.

Terrorism is a nice, flashy term that let's the American public think that the Justice Department is on top of things: "Be afraid, be very afraid, them Muslim buggers are in hiding right next door to you. They are even corrupting good white Christians from the Carolinas, they can corrupt you next! But be assurred that your FBI will catch them. Just write your Congressman and let him know that in these time of economic distress, he should vote to increase our FBI funding."

Selling weapons to people, either felons, or for shipment overseas, is not as high profile.

When Congress asks the FBI, "What have you done for us lately?", identity theft and selling guns seems kinda mundane.

Yes, the FBI has charged groups of incompetent "wannabes" with terrorism because they tried to buy something to carry out some attack they dreamed up, but lack the intellect to actually carry it out. It's kinda like being charged with terrorism for fantasizing about killing your boss.

You do realize they could charge "the boys from the hood" with terrorism for driving by someone's house and shooting it up? Or for randomly shooting people on the freeway as a "terrorist" initiation rite? Or for possession of a rocket propelled grenade launcher? Especially if one of the "boys from the hood" just happens to be Muslim, or have a Muslim name, something like Barrack.

"Terrorism" is probably one of the most ridiculous charges that came out of the Ashcroft Justice department, and I wish they'd just do away with it. These people are criminals, plain and simple. Anything and everything they do violates some criminal law. Let's do try not to glorify them for publicity sake in our ongoing quest for more Congressional funding.

    The wives have spoken out.

The wives of the men told The Associated Press in an interview at the time they were glad the truth about their husbands had finally become known. The wives said the couples had U.S. roots but the United States was a country of "kafirs" — Arabic for heathens.

I just loved the part about how they were arrested for Bank robbery in Pakistan, and were carrying identification cards for a radical Afghan terrorist group. Didn't realize terrorists groups issued ID cards........

And they were tied into acts in the former country of Yugoslavia, you remember, the area where Christian Serbs ruthlessly murdered Muslims.

So they were selling guns to Muslims in Bosnia.

I can just see how all this played out.......

In the late 1980's (before 9/11) Boyd went to Afghanistan to train with the poppy growers. In 1991 he went to Pakistan to become an "operative", met with a couple of guys who gave him a pistol and an ID card, and sent him into a bank, telling him that Osama was running a bit short of cash, seeing as how he'd made a long term investment in mortgaged backed securities. They told him that if he came out before the Paki police got there, to run by this alley, and drop the bags of money off, that way, if he was caught, all that money couldn't be used as evidence.

Considering the exchange rate, the two bags of Pakistani loot was worth about $1.45 American.

Later, in 2007, he went to Israel to fight for Hamas/Hizbollah. He approached two guys on the street and told them he wanted to join. They said, "Sure, kid. Just put this vest on under your shirt, here's a couple of sheckels, go get onto that Israeli bus......What do you mean you want an ID card, what do you think this is, the fukkin' Girl Scouts? We don't give no fukkin' ID cards here, we're Hamas/Hizbollah....... Look, kid, you better hurry, the bus is gonna pull away........ What do you mean 'Where's the bus going', don't worry about that kid........ Yea, yea, there's enough sheckels there to get back........ Jesus Christ, kid, the bus just left.........Okay, okay, kid, here's a chance to redeem yourself with Allah, take the sheckels, walk into that Jewish sidewalk cafe, and order some yentels........ Kid, whatta you mean you don't like yentels. Look, kid, you just ain't cut out for this kinda work, give us the vest back and go home.........Yea, yea, you can keep the sheckels".
