Hard to Find game ( Crafting Sanbox etc.)

L0rdSt3v3L0rdSt3v3 Member Posts: 4

Hello,

I'm searching for a game which i find very hard to find. I read the Sticky with the many different games but none could really satisfy me. So now you ask what am I looking for.

Well I'm looking for a game that has.

Fantasy Setting

A Crafting System that is complex and matters .

And a kind of sandbox . ( Skill system housing things like that) (Kinda ultima online but without the bad controls / grafiks)

I'm also not a big fan of grinding. But it isn't that much iof a turn of if the other requierments are fullfilled.

Games I tried which I don't really liked are:

SWG : Star Wars setting and Laserguns which i really couldn't stand

EVE : Futuristic setting which always turns me off in MMO's

UO: Not a bad game but the controlls felt kinda clumsy the Interface was bad and all in all i don't really can get myself to like it don't know why.

WoW: Well since TBC it sucks.

Thanks for reading and any recommedations are appreciated.

Its not that hard, check out Mortal online. Very complex crafting, fill loot, full PVP, no instances, FPV, Fantasy setting. its awesome, now its in beta.

Ryzom has the best crafting/harvesting system out there with all the best stuff being player crafted. All items degrade with use and there is no repairing. The setting is a sci-fi/fantasy combination. In addition it is more of a sandbox than most other mmo's out there. Their 21 day free unlimited trial is definately worth a try. I dont think you even need a credit card to sign up for it.

As i recall dark age of camelot had a great crafting system..but that was way way back like 4 years or so ago, so im not sure how it is now.

Also i really liked guild wars crafting system but last i checked gear wasn't too important in that game.

    hope this helped...good luck

I second this. Ryzom sounds like what you're looking for. The crafting is complex, with the materials affecting the stats of the item, rather than simply picking pre-fabs out of a book. It's skill-based instead of class-based. The beginner area has some quests to guide you through learning the system, but after that it's very much a sandbox. The setting is fantasy with some sci-fi elements.

Get the trial and see what you think.

I agree, Ryzom is little like that. How ever, Ryzom's combat is little booring. (spamming heals and standing same spot)

Newer mmorpgs seem to be more like fast food games. Most developers aren't even trying anymore to make complex good mmorpgs. So, they crafting side is more like we have to have it, but it isn't really anything than marketing BS.

Well... I can't say I've seen much mmo's in the sandbox area. But! If you go away from mmo's Steam(All in one game thing) offers a game in it's shop called Garry's Mod; basically the morale of GMod is to build stuff from your own imagination but if you don't want to build GMod has a very creative coding base and I'm sure you can pick up on roleplay, team deathmatch, and various other fun things.

Also GMod usually always has people adding new model packs to it so the fun in building stuff never gets tiring cause somehow you always have smething to build with :D

If you wanna check out stuff that other gmoders made goto....

    www.facepunch.com or www.garrysmod.org

But if your stuck with the mmo look for I would suggest a game more orianted towards realism.

    Wait! I just remeberd!

Trickester Online is a little bit of a tough start to get into but it hold an amazing house building system.

Look up for FFXIV, here's the website: na.finalfantasyxiv.com

Crafting and Gathering have been made into classes instead of dividing normal classes and crafts, so Square might have put more emphasis into crafting in the game. Not much more is known yet, but from the looks of it it might be a kind of a mix between sandbox and themepark.

It'll have mainly fantasy/medieval setting with some sci-fi elements (nothing major though).

Using LOL is like saying "my argument sucks but I still want to disagree".

if someone tells you to play "his" game and not to try the closest competitor, my recommendation is to try them both!

    *smiles*

BTW: You can guess the game i would suggest you from my signature, but a few already did this :)

so try them all for free if you can and decide for yourself.

    have fun.

Ye i agree Ryzom is really nice, Mortal online seems good and im excited about it but i really won't suggest it mainly because its still in Closed Beta and we dont have much information on how everything is going to work out. I've heard mabinogi is a fairly decent game too, never played it though and Fallen earth is going to be released soon and has a Open Beta on the 17th so you could also try that, it has everythign you want besides the fantasy setting, its an Apocalypse based game.
