Lemony Snicket's: A Series of Unfortunate Events

Just got back from this movie today and thought i'd give a short review. I was meaning to see this movie the first day it opened but my brother got the showtimes wrong, and I had to see Oceans Twelve for the second time (It's even worse the second time).

Having enjoyed the books of the series, I had one big setback towards this movie. It is directed towards the "family movie" genre and is produced by Nickelodeon. However, I was very pleased to see how they successfully appealed to all age groups.

For those of you who don't know, this is one of those story book adventure movies. Although there is an immensly different storyline compared to most family movies. There is no happy beggining, there is no victorious hero, but there is a fresh and unique storyline that is quite unpleasant, as well as eccentric.

One thing that is very enjoyable is the characters. The Baudelaire orphans were great actors, not the cheesy type you would find in a Nickelodeon t.v. series, far from it. Jim Carrey had made the movie much more energetic, I couldn't picture anyone else as the actor(s) he played other than himself.

Another thing I loved is how fast paced the movie is. I don't think there is one minute in the movie where the storyline doesn't progress in some way or another. The directing was extremely well done, the whole movie has sort of a "Tim Burton" feel to it.

Concluding Thoughts

There really isn't much more to say about this film. If your into the story book adventure but are seeking a diverse storyline, this movie has your name written all over it.

Believe me when I say this.... Lemony Snicket's: A Series of Unfortunate Events, was the most FORTUNATE event I have attended to at the movies in months.

Face it, Rath, you are a suckup for Canadian actors.::::39::

Really, I enjoyed it as well. I did not like it as much as The Aviator but it was a good watch. I liked Jim Carry's roles. He really pulled a Dana Carvey and each role was very different from the other.

The story is deprived from a book series so at first I thought it would suck, but it really was a magical movie. The CG effects were spectacular and some should buy a ticket just to watch the effect. Good movie, good acting, good story.

I've been wanting to see the Aviator since the day it released, but i'm a sucker for these types of movies, and I really enjoyed the book series of Lemony Snicket, so I had to watch this one.

Isn't Papa Johns offering some sort of special deal having to do with A Series of Unfortunate Events? I can't remember exactly what it was and threw away the pizza box just a little while ago.

I saw it 2 days ago, and i was quite dissapointed,

    It wasnt very funny, it was a bit too fast paced O_o;;

And the age rating for it is wacko, we took my little brother (6 years old) with us to watch it, and he was freaked out at the snake bit, and the leaches, we had to go get him some popcorn to cheer him up. image

    good movie, better book

I just finished watching it and I think it's by far one of the best acted movies I have seen since Lord of the Rings.

    Acted, not storyline and plot.

I mean, I concur with whoever said it was fast paced..it was, but it did turn out to be a great movie in the end. Better than the first two Harry Potter films, even though the orphans spoke less in the whole movie than potter spoke in the first scene.

Speaking of which, that kid tried out for the part of Harry Potter and lost to the guy who currently plays him... (I think it's Radcliffe or something).
