Usually people can tell within a few minutes of playing a game whether a game is for them or not. He actually played to level ten. Is it the worst over-hyped game? No...Is it over-hyped? Yes...

I am confused what people mean by 'hyped' these days.
Do we mean a lot of public interest generating a buzz on internet forums and genre specific web sites? If so, then yes, Aion seems to be 'hyped' by real people who seem to be really enjoying it on the whole.
Or do we mean, as I understand the meaning of 'hype', branded McDonalds happy meals, Yahoo or whoever running it on their homepage, TV ads, entertainment specials, and the purchased front cover of mainstream mags?
If it's the second, then no Aion isnt overhyped to me at all, I don't feel in the least over exposed to it, and tbh I really only see it talked about in gaming circles.
I think the general buzz about the game is a genuine reaction from a section of gamers that are ready for a change of game that is good to look at and also familiar yet different. I don't see the artifical hype as some would seem to suggest.
Aion will be a good game not outstanding but good. My opion of the worst hyped game was Funcom's AOC they promised alot and delivered little at launch and continue to promise and promise.

I bought a pre-order and have tried to play this game but I just can't manage to play for more than an hour or two. Admittingly, I've only made it to level 10, but I have doubts as to if the game dramatically changes after that.
Graphics in-game are very dissapointing compared with how the game appears in screenshots, gameplay seems worse than WoW- just with really flashy animations, and the entire first 10 levels was spent grinding little bug-like creatures in small and walled-off areas. I could see this game as a free-to-play and I might try it if it was, but I could not see forking over more than the 5 dollars I already wasted on it. So... I really don't get the appeal. I understand there hasn't been a major MMORPG release recently, but are people really that desperate that they want to play "this"?
What are your Pc specs ? Are you playing it at low detail? As for the lvl 10 and quit, well not much we can do about that...
Aion barely has any marketing push. I saw a trailer air on a tv at EBGames and a banner at the bottom of these forums, thats all I've seen. Give me an example of an MMORPG hyped less than Aion. If you do find an example, I probably never heard of the game or gave it a shot. I'm not sure people know the meaning of hype these days.
Why? Compare AION hype with the amount of hype/marketing/promises AOC, War, WoW, EQ2, DFO had before the official release. There is absolute NO hype related to AION, just positive and honest opinions of players who are playing the asian version and having a great time. ...
Agreed.
I don't enjoy Aion, but I don't think NCSoft has done any more marketing than any other game company. My non-gamer friends have never heard of it.
Aion looks way better then AOC so i dont know what this Troll bull shit is.
I played both races Elyos to 15, and Asmodian to 40 (chinese beta)
Know where is there buggy things that you fight in a boxed room? i never saw such a think acctually unless you are blind you can see QUEST'S!!!! there isnt even a quest to kill bugs in a house or anything that is "Box" Shaped so TROLL.
B. Visit Canirunit.com before buying a game to see if you can first run it and see how well you can run it. If you have actually even played aion which i highly dought since everything you said in your post was complete BS none of it makes sence to someone who has actually played through the lvl's you mentioned.

ROFL, that guys was terrible, he was the MMO equivilant to Peter Molyneux, who if he ever makes a MMO I will avoid like the freaking plaugue. Just so were all on the same page, He created Fable, and while some of his earlier work is good, he developed a reputaion for over selling his ideas.
I remember when fable was in devolpement it was going to be so open that if you planted a seed anywhere and came back 20 years later, a tree would be there, if it took root.

I mean jessus, you didnt even get to pick a real class yet...
Nah I don't think so. They have been marketing it for the past month or so because it's about to launch but before that you didn't hear hardly anything about AION. You gotta remember the west isn't NCSoft's primary market and AION has been bringing in the money for them for almost a year now. (look at their quartly reports on www.ncsoft.net )
Overhyped is years of that British idiot fool over at Mythic screaming at us about how great Warhammer was gonna be before it launched.
Overhyped is like "Knights of Republic" which is still years away from launch but has an enormous hype / marketing push already.
The people over on that game are setting themselves up for a big disappointment when they discover after years of hype that it's more then likely not going to be all that different and isn't going to provide screaming orgasms per play session.
edit
Overhyped is WoW, which after 5 years Blizzard has managed to keep the Videogame media firmly in it's pocket and feeding the community endless propaganda and advertising about how "great" their game is...when it's not all that, its basic...kill 10 rats, some raids and a weak PvP element.
Warhammer Online is an incredible game. It is, however, very young and has been growing at a rapid pace (content.)
I have yet to see a group PvP experience rival the game, secondly only to, maybe DAoC.
What it needs, among all else, is a better community, and more people on the same server. (With the server merges coming soon, this should fix 'that' problem.)

Because Aion would look more like "it's basic...kill 10 two o'clock pookiebears, PvP and some weak raid elements." hehe
I don't think they are hyping it more than any other game would. The extremely vocal fans on ths page do that. I didn't care for it much personally. I've already kicked my pre-order to the curb. I played a few beta weekends and it didn't feel much different than loading up any other free 2 play Eastern mmo. Graphics were good, nothing I'd consider to be omgwtfbbqsauce! (and yes my pc is perfectly capable of running it). I will give it credit for having some of the best music I've heard in a game. To me the ui looked almost identical to the one in Runes of Magic (I think that was the game). The game will do decently, it will give PvP people a home.

What WAR needs is class balance and that all classes are equally valuable to play. Not new content
WAR needs a working and meaningful pvp endgame without the many bugs.
WAR needs to close down the overpopulated servers on Order or destruction side, giving rp bonus does not help.
Server merges will only stall it a little as server merges will not change the inbalance most servers have.
which result in more people leaviing due to imbalance till WAR has 1 server left.
Most people like to join the winning side its simple as that.
Unless they close down the order/destruction side of the server that is the most popular on that server nothing will change.
Over-hyped game ever = Mmm that would be AOC. Soon to be replaced by SW-TOR.
Aion is hyped but mostly from fan's and not much from NC as far as I can tell.

Aion is on yougamers.com if you need to test your system.
unreliable site when you're running a Intel Quad Core with 8 gbs of ram and a 2gb ATI 4870 Video Card and it tells you
Game-o-Meter Result:
Close, but unfortunately your computer does not meet the publisher's minimum requirements.
Of course thats probably because it dont list windows 7 as supported
Yah sure i dont lol.
Yeah it's more of a "making sure my computer CAN run the game" not "how high on the list can I get?" =P. If you read the specs (minimum and recommended) and are unsure of the ability to play, it's nice. Because even if it doesn't show your OS in their list.. you can still check your vid card and proc and sound against the given "norm".
However, I dunno why you would want such an extreme sytem (unless you plan to not upgrade for 5 years?) and feel the need to check to see if your hardware passes lol. You can cut all of your specs in half and be more than fine to play almost anything (depending on size of monitor and otehr periphereals). But that's for a different forum.
level 10? really? Thats about 2 hours worth of playing the game. Furthermore, at level 10, you get your wings your next job, a broker, more skills (ex: armorsmithing), and more. Not to mention, you haven't even seen the pvp in this game. Level 1-10 is an intro to the story. Level 10-20 is getting used to the game. And level 20+ is where the game actually starts. Nothing really happens before then.

The game is not overhyped by the Developer but maybe by the fanbase. Eitherway the game is awesome and i have tons of fun playing it and havent had this kind of fun in an MMORPG in 5-6 years.
