Blizzard downloader SUCKS!!!!

DelsusDelsus Member Posts: 58

I have had World of Warcraft since it came out and before for the beta. I PLAYED EQ but not anymore becasue Wow is much better. but the one thing that i can say that EQ WAS good at was the patch downloading. I love Blizzard and everything they have done, but this patch downloader sucks so much. I really want to just come home and play the DAM GAME. but i have to wait forever to try and download the patch. It wont work , i have been waiting forever and done everytihng to fix it, or everything i think i can do. I have a perfect internet connection so nothing wrong there.

Anyone have any suggestions? plz tell me if you do !!!!!!!!!!!

Have you tried fiddling around with the port forwarding feature of your router (if you have one)?

    Firewall settings? Virus checker?

eh.. i had no trouble d/ling the patch whatsoever and i am behind a router with firewall :) its just a matter of how your config is. My download took 5minutes or so. I went for a drink and it was done already. It's like bittorrent. If your upload is 10+ then your download will go 300+ :) at least thats my experience with it.

Well, here's what I did to go from 2kb/s (that dropped to 0kb/s every 5 seconds) to 5-16kb/s!

How?  Just follow these easy steps:

    - Uninstall Service Pack 2 (Even if you get a message that certain things won't work anymore, who cares, WoW is all I do on my PC these days anyways)

    - Uninstall any Firewall software.  Somehow even if I disable Norton Firewall, WoW still says the ports are blocked.  Hmm...

    - Disconnect the cable from your Router and stick it directly into your PC!  You never know, your Router might still be blocking the updater!

    After doing these 3 steps, I'm getting 5-16kb/s !

Oh what's this?  I'm getting a message every 5 minutes telling me that I should disable more Firewall ports???  BUT WHAT FIREWALL????  I DESTROYED EVERY SINGLE TRACE FOR FIREWALL IN MY DAMN PC!!!  Bah who cares, at least it's downloading... I just hate having to click the OKAY button every 5 minutes.

It does not suck. Torrents are very good ways of sharing (if at least those other 83% keep it open for more then an hour). This way of patching does have no effect on the people playing the game or whatsoever (unlike some games that sometimes become totally inaccessible or unplayable due to the lag).

There's a thing you need to know about Torrents and that is to make use of the full capacity you need to have a port open so a connection can be established (with non firewall users it's always ok but making yourself not firewalled increases your nr of peers/seeders drastically). Cause people who don't do that can't connect to people who are firewalled (and probably not able to change it anyway due to provider or whatever). Furthermore you need a good torrent program that shows what the connection is. Mine for instance has a big round button that is either Yellow (firewalled) or Green (not firewalled or with ports open). In most clients you can even determine which port you want to open.

Last patch I downloaded from WoW was just 40 Mb. That's hardly breaking sweat for a cable/adsl person. And people who are using still old phone modems shouldn't complain cause they can't get any decent speed anyway...

I agree, I hope blizzard changes this patch updater to work like the old way where you just directly download the patch - I mean we have high speed access we shouldn't have to wait 2 hours + for 39mb to come down. This patching style is lame - I do not want to be a sharepoint for other people to download from my machine I want to download the patch myself and BAM be done with it - just like e'rybody should be able to do. A 39mb d/l shoulda taken a minute or 2 not several hours.

Hell I just waited the 2 hours and finally got some housework done. When my internet is down I can get things done (or when there is an update from blizzard).

Actually, i think that the download speed depends on ur internet service because I have a really good config, but my downloads are always slow, especially blizzard patch files.

Fix your router settings and you won't have a problem. Blizzard Patcher runs on certain ports and these need to be set up to be let through by your router. Also update your network card drivers and make sure you haven't checked the box that disables Peer to Peer sharing. You shouldn't have any problems downloading the patches.
