best - Eve Online - Has a very mature and helpfull community just remember to join a decent corp.
Worst Guildwars - When i left the training area to my first city i was disgusted to see the mixture of imature profanity chuck norris jokes and sellers spamming the chat channels with posts LIKE THIS.
Another great example of Moore's Law. Give people access to that much space (developers and users alike) and they'll find uses for it that you can never imagine. "640K ought to be enough for anybody" - Bill Gates 1981
Best: EVE-Online. Of course, you’ll find the random ass but 90% of the time, it’s a great and helpful community. Specially if you’re part of a major alliance. Next to EVE, I’ll say Vanguard and Mankind Online.
Worse: I’m forced to go with WOW. The game is based on loot or greed and after seing 40 year old adults crying over loot, I died a little inside. People tend to think that their gear defines their social standings in real life…
Best: Tie - CoX and LotRO. Both communities were helpful and always willing to lend a hand. I really enjoyed my time in both games due in large part to the community.
Worst: WoW. If the immature banter, the "I pwn'd u", the Chuck Norris jokes in the chat channels where not enough. You had groups were people were SCREAMING at each other in an instance....over a game. AND don't get me started with those want/need rollers. You should never feel stress when playing a game. The stress was relieved once I hit that "Cancel my subscription" button.
Yeah you're right, you should never feel stress when playing a game. Funny WoW nor any game I have ever played has done that. Sensitive maybe?
If you actually feel stressed at all in a game then you should take a break from games. If your raid group wipes, do it again next week or something.
While asshats exist everywhere, there seemed to be a large percentage of genuinely helpful people playing this game and those asking questions typically were not made fun of which I found unusual having played other MMO's.
Best Overall Guild Community Experienced: Guild Wars (cliched I know)
A shout out to the Hounds of Creegus if there happen to be any out there, never have I had so much fun playing with others on a daily basis. Even in the pre-alliance days we had several guilds working together for the fun of everyone.
Worst Community Overall: Warhammer Online
Not only did this community seem to possess all the elitism I found in WoW there also seemed to be a large lack of communication with everyone seemingly wanting to play the game by themselves (an odd concept for an MMO I found)
Wolfenpride: <--Giant fucking sword syndrome.
Probably cause im trying to compensate for miniscule manhood.
( I did find a nice community in WoW one time! I played a Horde on a new role-play server and the people there were truly nice! But, then TBC came out and all these goofballs from the Alliance side made Night Elves:( Logged in to F words and N words and just gave up entirely on the game)
Best: EverQuest 2- With a fairly low population, the people left are generally very friendly, dedicated people. PUGs here are commonplace and tend to be...relaxing? Just friendly chatter and far less arguing as compared to the worst community below...
Worst: World of Warcraft- With such a high general population, one is going to find the worst in players. With the game consistently becoming easier, younger and younger players are joining in. There is such a large mix of players, personalities are going to clash, and almost everyone has to be the voice. So many arguments and people seem to care less about general congeniality, calling names, threatening, and simply beligering other people for the smallest things. I have played Warcraft for four years, and no other community has made me feel like I could kill kittens like it does.
EVERQUEST! OMG the amount of whining, hating, scheming, propaganda on the Zeks LMAO! Funny times!
Rallos Zek was THE BEST and WORST for me. My best gaming experience ever.
GOOD thing was that even when it was most of the time OVERLY DRAMATIC it brought people together to fight their common enemy. I have never had friends so close and enemies so real in a game.
Best: WoW simiply because the chuck norris and other things didn't bother me. It was mainly in barrens chat for lvl 10s, and occasionly on trade. You guys all seem to want a friendly community that help you and crap. i like just the opposite, i loved when someone called me a noob, and then i went outside to orgimarr and pwned there a$$.
Worst: Runescape, just cause runescape sucks, and the community was just plain G@y.
Best for me was Vanguard the community was great alot of helpful people and guilds that are passionate about their game and community
As for worst community i have to say Age of conan , the pvp servers are full of asshats and douchebags just trying to flex their epeens with not only alot of trash talk but also trying to make any new player miserable and force them to leave the server . Also the forums have so much negativity that i've gotten the impression that the aoc community is ruining its own game and ruining any chance to get more subs .
Best: Original Everquest: Players actually interacted on a daily basis. The majority were friendly, helpful, and eager to solo or group, or simply help a stranger if they could. You got to the point of knowing almost everyone on your server and to knowing who were good to group with, who were not, and what Guilds to avoid, etc. Vanguard: SoH a close second.
Worse: WoW: Immature, rude, and unhelpful. Chat spammed with "You mom" jokes, Chuck Norris Jokes, Leroy Jenkins garbage, unnecessary flames, insults, or general smartass comments if you asked a question. I mean, EQ DID have some idiots, but nothing like the cesspool of WoW. AoC PvP servers a close second to this game.
Best: Dofus - Everyone for the most part is just friendly in the game. The whole " I am better than you" attititude is very rare and people generally interact with one another regardless of levels and such.
Worst: Aion - Heavily based on clicks. No reason to interact with others and half the people in the game are afk and/or bots.
Worst In-game Community I've experienced: World of Warcraft
Assuming that we don't have to justify our picks and that it is understood that each person has their own reasons and that said reason only need to be valid for that particular individual.
"Many nights, my friend... Many nights I've put a blade to your throat while you were sleeping. Glad I never killed you, Steve. You're alright..."
Worst: StarWars Galaxies after the New Game "Enhancements" deleted most of the professions, the skill system and a lot of the features in a brand new expansion. I've never seen such division in a gaming community before or since.
Best: Tie - CoX and LotRO. Both communities were helpful and always willing to lend a hand. I really enjoyed my time in both games due in large part to the community.

I think you are the one who is being sensitive. Its just his opinion of best/worst. And his opinion of worst is shared by many here as you can clearly see.
Comments
Best: Jumpgate classic couple months after beta, great group of people
Worst: World of Warcraft - biggest community of asshats you'll ever have the misfortune of gaming with

By far the best would be FFXI. Just an awsome community.
The worst.... would be WoW, you'll never see a larger room full of 13 year olds (or people who act that age)
Please check out my channel. I do gaming reviews, gaming related reviews & lets plays. Thanks!

Best: Saga of Ryzom....great group of people that show you how it works rather than RTFM.
Oddly, very culty feeling though, like..have some kool-aid man...
Worst: Oh so many. I'd say most beta communities have been total poo.
Best-LOTRO
Worst-WoW

Best: FFXI (with LotRO in second)
Worst: WoW
I think all the reasons for both have probably been said.

Communities have changed over the last ten years. Why? Because the Internet has changed.
In the early days the Internet was populated by early adopter types, eg nerds. So the community was pretty much a mono culture.
Today everyone has access to the Internet and so your game communities are very diverse. There are more kids and more women online and playing games.
Kids are kids. We are were kids once. Unsupervised kids make for a bad community.
How do you keep kids out? Make a boring game.

Worst Forum Community I've experienced: Darkfall
Worst In-game Community I've experienced: World of Warcraft

Best: Everquest - For many of the same reasons as above. This community was generally mature, helpful, and fun at all level ranges.
Worst: Everquest Online Adventures - Great game. Awful community. There were some good players, but the vast majority were terribly immature punks
Best SWG
Second Best COH
Worst AOC
Best: StarWars Galaxies
Worst: StarWars Galaxies after the New Game "Enhancements" deleted most of the professions, the skill system and a lot of the features in a brand new expansion. I've never seen such division in a gaming community before or since.
Best: EQ1 (honorable mention EQ2 and then L2)
Worst: Do I even need to say it ? yep, WoW. I wont waste my or your time explaining how and why. If you played wow, you know.
Yeah you're right, you should never feel stress when playing a game. Funny WoW nor any game I have ever played has done that. Sensitive maybe?

Best community for me is a tossup for Darkfall/Vanguard or LOTRO
Worst is easily WoW.
Best: WAR
Worst: Darkfall
Hell hath no fury like an MMORPG player scorned.
I thought WAR was a close 2nd behind WoW for worst.
