It seems Funcom managed to pick a screenshot from LOTR:O as a participant of their monthly screenshot contest. Kinda amusing. :P

I know it's a few months old, but this really cracked me up! I'm pretty sure it's gonna be removed quite soon now that more people have seen it, though.

I know it is pretty funny and it is a good catch, however, the contest is run by and bound by the rules of GameRigs, a division of Neutralvibe Corporation.

So when you say Funcom, you mean someone upload a LOTRO screenie to a different companies website for Age of Conan competition and that different company has not taken it down or revoked it.
I am sure that Funcom have no control over that website. The whole contest is run via Gamerigs. Funcom just sponsors the contest.

lol that's funny and kinda a slap in AoC face... uploading pics of people playing a different (and perhaps better looking) MMO.
I wouldn't call it a slap in the face, maybe it is someone wishing LOTRO could look as good as AoC one day :P (with all those extra setting and view distance)
Really though, both games have their art style, premise and pretty (and rough) visuals.

Failcom's faculty for... fail never ceases to amaze me. Is this some sort of a subconscious sign that AoC wants to be another game, that its identity is shattered?

Seriously: AoC will never beat the LotRO-graphics. Why? Simple. The world is HUGE and not INSTANCED and you don't need a fake impression for wideness.
It has me wondering if when the Hype starts for The Seceret World if the screen shots will be from the game or someone elses.

Pretty simple--if my boss asks me to hire someone to...wash his car.....or take out the trash....and they fuck it up---it's I who has to accept accountability from my boss. Yes the person who screwed it up in the first place is fired...but it's me who will look bad and lose creditability, and probably never get asked to hire someone again. THAT'S THE WAY THE WORLD WORKS-ENJOY!

Even if you had said ANY MMO (MO in AoC case because it's not Massive) you would've been wrong. Technically both LOTRO and Aion beat AoC hands down. Even the most hardcore AoC defender can't argue reasonably about this (their DX10 is alpha not beta, CryEngine isn't DX10 and still is more advanced techically than DreamEngine).
Artwork is another matter and that boils down to opinion and personal taste.
AoC has some pretty cool surroundings spoiled by player characters that move like 80-years old crippled persons and that's it. Spell effects look good, high fantasy -like, but are in a low fantasy game. Go figure, eye candy appeals to low fantasy people too.

Funcom may not control the site or what's uploaded, but they sure as hell can control whether the one picked is an actual screen from their game so they don't look like idiots, especially when Funcom sponsored the fucking thing. Do you really think it's so damned hard for FC to say "Okay, when you make your choice, we want to see it first to verify the authenticity and to make sure there is nothng to take away from our company/product's image."? As I said, a NORMAL company in any industry would do just that.
Just for the record I did not intend to bash FC with this topic, I just found it amusing and wanted to share it. Even though I hate Funcom as a company (hard to let go that) I still have hope for this game, even though my viewpoint may be more negative than positive side.

AoC's graphical package (if you will) is actually pretty bad (broken animations, broken DX10, choppy...etc)...Ive been saying this for awhile now. While the artwork (i think) is pretty good, it's just not enough to carry this game for most self-respecting gamers. Most people don't understand the difference between artwork and graphics (especially AoC fans).
In the vain of what graphic are and all it encompasses--LOTRO and Aion are far superior to no small degree..in comparison to AoC.
It's funny to hear people defend Funcom at all costs about this. Hey I loved their Dreamfall: The longest Journey, and god I want more of it, but, this is failcom at work here.
As someone mentioned, if you SPONSER, IE give money, the idea, the resouces, to do an event about your company, and they say, well, here is something not related to your company, since it's only supposed to be about your company. You. Look. Bad.

Im not going to defend Funcom. But I will say that Personally I think Age of Conan has some of the best looking graphics I have seen in any game to date... Aion might be the one game to match it if not surpass it.. But then again thats always an artistic Style preference.
I have seen LoTRO and while I think its a good looking game. I think AoC is actually for the most part better looking.
Currently I am enjoying not playing anything..Unless you consider Aion CB Events something 8)..
Sorry, but those saying that LOTRO looks better than AoC clearly show nothing but their own PC specs being about 5 years old. LOTRO is technically inferior in the graphics department, and despite having a few blingy DX10 effects, it wasn't built from the ground up to support the advanced stuff that AoC flaunts constantly. The screenshot linked from LOTRO in the first page saying "this looks better than AoC ever did" is uglier than AoC was in beta before they opened up the full power of the graphics engine.

Yea, it looks bad on funcom because it looks bad on a funcom game. However, it had nothing to do with funcom as it was not their contest.
Now if it was their contest, and they did pick the winner....omfg would that be the funniest thing ever!
But this is not the case. Its still funny...but not quite as much as the OP's post indicated.

Funcom will use every opportunity to hype there game or games and say little or nothing when they screw up. They've done so time and again how ever the wrong screen shot ended up being put on wrong game does little to improve anyones opion of Funcom.

LOTR looks nice, but I seriously think AoC looks much better. the attention to detail is and realism is far beyond :P
