I'm a long time EQ/DAoC/WoW gamer andI'm officially trying Eve after several weeks of debate and forum reading. I really don't know anything about it other than what I picked up from reading the forum on occasion, but that is mostly why I am giving it a shot. It's complexity intrigues me and I'd love to learn it, solely for a pvp stand point. So I hope the community is welcoming because I'm very excited to play.

Well, good luck. You'll probably want to gun down the community with an AK-47 in about a week -- ten days tops.

My one bit of advice would be: TRY to have patience. The game requires massive amounts of it...

You won't get to the point where you really understand what is going on for several months. For a lot of people, its worth every minute.

I plan on it. Nothing on the market now even has me the slightest bit intrigued except Eve. I know it's been a long time since release but I don't think I was really ready for a mmo of this type back then. I just hope to experiece the same rush when I first started playing EQ way back when.

Well imo its the setting that I feel in love with when I tried Eve.

The gameplay on the other hand took a bit, I struggled through the tutorial, did nothing but mine and carebear at first and got bored until I left my Npc corp and started running Player Ops.

As time went on I dabbled in different aspects of eve, read a ton of guides and finally found my Niche (Exploration).

For me exploration gives me a purpose in the game, I get to probe out Wormholes and run group content with my corpmates.

it's fun for me. While I understand that alot of players find Eve boring ( I thought similar when I first played). If you enjoy the setting and find some good people to play with its alot of fun and a truely rewarding experience.

OP give it a try and if you don't like it atleast you can say you tried lol.

Read and learn, eve really isn't amazingly difficult but its a game where 3 years down the line you can run into something you haven't done and still need to google it.

The real appearance of depth and difficulty comes from not walking you through every aspect of game play. There are also great deal of do it this way or you're retarded mechanics. Keep that in mind when you want to put lazers on your rifter so you can save ammo or something else that no one is doing for an obvious reason but you haven't quite got the memo/ have any experience with what your trying to do.

I could give you a list of things I've seen people do in pvp from sitting still with a ship whose only defense is speed and agility to putting tons of additions to your ships capacitor even though nothing on your ship uses much cap but you will still manage to find something that shouldn't and hasn't been done yet because you aren't going to be bothered to think about more then one or two things that are going on with your fitting.

On the flip side the same can be said for doing something intelligent. Look at the alliance tourny and watch as the best team takes an advantage on the field by fitting a ship to do something that would be completely useless or at best not efficient in normal situations.

Don't be so quick to rule those things out. I've flown very "creative" fittings in the past, and some fits that were very strange on paper worked extremely well in game.

Examples would be the Autocannon Abaddon of Awesomeness, the Pulse Laser Dominix, or my Autocannon Vengeance of DOOM.

Did the tutorial this morning til the server got shut down and I like what I saw. It is a little overwhelming at first with a lot of things to know and do, but that is ok. Could I immediatly start pvping or will I have to pve some to build skills and such

In a frigate fit with  Warp scrambler and AB/Mwd can easily start pvping.

takes like a day or so, just pick your targets wisely (basically kill other tech I frigs).
