Pc Config - Opinions requested

MonsieurXMonsieurX Member UncommonPosts: 46

Hello,

I'm thinking about buying a new PC and I would like your opinion on this rig :

Proc : Intel® Core™ 2 Duo E7500 or Pentium® E6300

Graphic card : Point Of View GeForce 9800 GT 1024 Mo or XFX GeForce GTS 250 ( 512 Mo )

Motherboard : MSI P45 Neo3-FR

Memory : G.Skill Kit Extreme2 2 x 1 Go PC8500 PK

Harddrive: Western Digital Caviar Black 500 Go

Box : Silverstone Temjin TJ09S

Power : Silverstone Strider ST60F - 600W ( 7200 rpm )

The total amount is around 640 € which is about 917 $  ( without the OS nor assembly )

I intend to use it mostly for gaming (mmorpg only ); currently I am playing City of Heroes/Villains and maybe Champion Online in a near futur.

Thanks for your feedback.

Edit :

My current rig : Intel Core 2 Duo 6300 (  1.79 Ghz ) , 1.5Go RAM ( not in dual channel and don't remember the cadency ), GeForce 6800 GT 256 Mo and a 300 Go harddrive ( 5200 rpm I think ).

I can play City Heroes finely but Champion Online ( beta ) not so much.

Get the E7500, and the GTS 250.

The memory itself isn't good for an mmo. You should be aiming for 4GB on an mmo machine.

like stated above get 4 gigs of ram... ram is cheap anyway.

If you want a good gaming rig drop the E7xxx series and go with an AMD 550 x2 or 720x3 with a 4850 card, it will be worth your while

I haven't owned a pc ith less than 4gb of ram since like 2000. Ram is really cheap and a vital componant to a computer running quick. If your on a budget i'd get an AMD 720 black, it overclocks really well and is cheap then team it up with a 4870.

    Hello,

    Thanks for the advices.

    I made a new rig :

    Case : Silverstone Temjin TJ09S

    PSU : Silverstone Strider ST60F - 600W

HDD :  Western Digital Caviar Black 500 Go - 32 Mo

    RAM : Corsair TWIN3X 2 x 2 Go DDR3 PC12800 CAS 9

    Graphic card : Sapphire Radeon™ HD 4850 512 Mo Vapor-X

    Proc : AMD Phenom™ II X2 550 Black Edition

    Motherborad : Gigabyte GA-MA770T-UD3P

It is a bit more expensive than my original config ( with Intel and Nvidia ) but this one use DDR3.

hehe you will get about a 1% - 5% gain from good DDR2 to DDR3 RAM on most CURRENT software/games.  It may behouve you to drop down to the DDR2 and plop in a $10 more 720 .. the 720 will give you about 15% - 20% perofrmance gain above the 550

    Isnt this fun? lol

here is a good 720 combo deal

    or ddr2

    Hello,

    Thanks Tibbz for the suggestion.

My rig version 3. I dropped the expensive case ( sad ), picked up a cheaper UPS and RAM.

    Case : Gigabyte Triton - argent 63,99 €

    UPS : Corsair VX - 550W 75,55 €

    DvD ( burner ) Optiarc AD-7200A - OEM, argent 21,99 €

    HDD : Western Digital Caviar Black 500 Go - 32 Mo 54,79 €

    Graphic card : Sapphire Radeon™ HD 4850 512 Mo Vapor-X 106,49 €

    Proc : AMD Phenom™ II X3 720 Black Edition  119,99 €

    RAM : G.Skill Kit Extreme2 2 x 2 Go PC8500 PI  61,99 €

    Motherboard : Gigabyte GA-MA780G-UD3H 84,99 €

Total : 590 € ( almost equal to the previous rig with the cheaper case and UPS ).

I kept the price in Euros to give you an idea of the difference in Dollars.

The online shop I choose may not be the cheapest but it is a trusted one with good feedbacks, I will also buy their assembly and OS install as well ( this bundle cost 90 € for assembly and OS install and 125 € for Vista with a free upgrade to Seven ).

The difference between DDR2 and DDR3 is only realized with triple channel memory.  Dual Channel like in all AMD boards, LGA 775 and LGA1156 boards won't show a performance increase from DDR3 memory.  The price on your memory and graphics card seem to be high.  Is that a result of VAT taxes?

that is a beautifully balanced rig

btw got my wife's comp up to 3.2 gigs on stock voltage and stock fan from that x3 720 with very small temp increases... i think you will be a happy camper

    Hello,

Cleffy, yes the price include the VAT and the shop I bought from isn't the cheapest but a trusted one ( www.materiel.net ).

Tibbz, I don't plan to overclock the CPU nor the RAM but I've read great stuff on this matter with this kind processor as well.

I am pretty satisfied with this rig but I've made a new one today for few more Euros ( + 15 ).

Western Digital Caviar Black 500 Go - 32 Mo

    Corsair VX - 550W

    Gigabyte Triton - argent

    Optiarc AD-7200A - OEM, argent

    Sapphire Radeon™ HD 4850 512 Mo Vapor-X

    AMD Phenom™ II X3 720 Black Edition

Gigabyte GA-MA770T-UD3P => No embbeded ATI HD video card ( the other have one )

    G.Skill Kit Extreme3 2 x 2 Go PC10600 NQ => DDR3 not much expensive than the DDR2 ( + 10 € ).

Now I just have to make up my mind and I thank you again for your advices.
