The Open Beta, Pre-select, and Head start program dates have been announced by NCsoft today. Open Beta will commence on September 6th, and run through to September 13th, with a level cap of 30.

The Pre-select program, which allows pre-order customers to select their character name and server in advance, will begin on September 18th, with the headstart program beginning two days later on the 20th.
With all the closed beta tests only running a short weekend, how excited are you all to get a full week of non-stop Aion before the game launches?

I wonder why noone of the Aion representatives on Twitter didn't announce it yet though.

Nice!! From what I understand theres a full character wipe after the week of open beta? Kinda sucks but at least the fans can get their fix (or burn out...) before launch day. :-)

AIght cool, but does that mean that anyone can actually try out Aion OB or not? Ive been trying to download Aion just to have the game ready when open beta comes but that have had no success because as the ncsoft launcher starts, it says error, not enough space on the drive...but..I have like 30GB remaining...is it because it was not the right version to download and only is for CB testers or what? I really want to try this game out to see if I would like to get it later this year...any help would be appreciated!

How does one get in on this? I have this game pre-ordered at GameStop and used my reg code from the pre-order for the closed betas... so how do I get in on THIS new promo deal?

Wish I could help you more but I've been confused about how the OB and headstart is going to work since closed beta ended. I would think that if you didnt pre-order you wont have access until launch day. But thats just a guess...

They haven't announced yet how keys will go out outside of preorders. I think with preorders alone they had 5-6 servers so I know they can't just make it a true open beta or they would need more servers than they would have at launch. I would imagine some give aways and maybe fileplanet subs. If they still have room they may make it truly open the last few days, but I doubt it.
If you have the pre-order you should be able to get in on all this. Kinda of cool that we can pick our toons names and server before they open them. It should give NCsoft an idea of which servers will be hit the hardest when game goes live and they can make it run smoooooth .

check your drive for fat32 or NTFS, this is the #1 reason for getting that error, if it is fat32 you need to do a drive update to NTFS and it should fix your problem.
goto my computer, right click and goto properties, on the general tab, look at file type.

This would be great if the general public can get in on it. I'm not sure if I'd order it but it would at least kill some time before I can get into Mortal Online which I have preordered.

Awesome news. Was hoping they would start the OB on the 4th (if not earlier) like the rumours stated, but I guess I can't have everything lol
@aion_xaen We are working on getting the client up today/tomorrow. Hopefully more news on that soon.
That is from twitter... so I am guessing that they are making a whole new download for the open beta since its going to be the 1.5 version.
Once they make the 1.5 version client available, those who do not have the client already will get a new download, yes, because they don't have it yet, but those who have the client installed should just be able to patch to 1.5 through the launcher

Have played: Asheron's Call, Champions Online, City of Heroes, City of Villains, Dark Age of Camelot, EVE Online, Guild Wars, Lineage, Lord of the Rings Online, RF Online, Rohan: Blood Feud, Shaiya, Ultima Online, Warhammer, WoW and SC, BW, D1, Diablo 1 expantion, D2, D2x, Warcraft 2, & 3 !
I am a bit confused with these dates and such. Is it correct to assume that
* Sept 6 to 13th: We can play but characters will be wiped after
* Sept 18th: We can create our characters and chose servers but NO playing involved at all
* Sept 20th: Headstart for those that preordered
* Sept 22nd: Official start
Hopefully i understood it all correctly... They throw so many dates at us!
I wish they would have used the payment system of china's version. That made it so cheap and easy for me. Also was nice to not have a limit to levels lower than the true cap.
ABOUT TIME THEY ANNOUNCED IT! I've been waiting for approx. a week and a half now bored out of my mind. Looks like we're getting close to the official release, makes me happy to also see the pre-selection and head start date officially posted to.

Meh I'm not really excited about it.... I am probably going to buy it out of sheer boredom and that I have been MMO-less for the past year. Still debating on it though.

Just to be clear: its NOT a normal open beta. Only pre order peeps + I guess a new release of some OB keys, will be able to play " Open beta "
I got my CE preordered but not gonna play till official release ^^
Ill be excited if they have to start up new servers to keep up with demand cause of its (hopeful) awesomeness.
