There is one simple question I have regarding combat which is, quite frankly, a make it or break it for me...
Is there a basic attack? To clarify, remember City of Heroes. You had a "strike" attack - your very basic punch. But, it was not a regular click and auto repeat attack. It was an attack that used "mana" and you had to click it every time you wanted to use it.
Does CO have this, or do they have an auto-attack like any other MMO's basic attack (whether it be swing a sword, shoot a gun, etc.)?
Thanks.

That is your make or break?? It does not have a one-click basic punch...
FFXI: Gauhar - Odin
There's an Endurance Builder attack that you use inbetween your charged up attacks. I guess you could consider it an autoattack, but it's much faster than your standard autoattack since it's not based on a 3 second weapon speed or some other nonsense.
its has a so called energy builder , thats the first attack you get. you can click it when ever you want or set it to auto attack. it builds up you energy and all other attacks , heals and buffs will use the energy up . its makes only minor dmg and its up to you if you set it as auto attack or just click it when you in need of new energy.
hope that helps
It IS an auto attack, but it can be switched in the menu options to be a tap attack. That way you can happily tap tap tap your endurance back instead of auto attacking.. then again, it all depends on how much you love your mouse/keyboard/xbox360 controller buttons... you'd wear them out with all the tapping you'd need to do.
In addition to other things, but this is the last little item.
I hated that about CoH. It seemed if, at times, I had a basic attack, it would help add that extra little damage in between special skills.
the 2 things that kept me from loving CoX were how your attacks always drained you of endurance way to fast (no end builder vs co having the end builder system) and how late i tried the game out, anyone running alts didnt want to associate with me as a noob and the game was more class based with tank/heal/dps so you rolled a mastermind or ground very hard solo with the others. im thinking co will be alot more fun for me, option to group is there but i can have my own tank/dps setup and grab a heal power or 2 so i can keep the battle going and i simply just the idea of the power armor power set =D =D =D
cheers all.
The energy management in COH = "Use it til its gone, you will automatically recover some"
The energy management in CO = "Manage it carefully, knowing when to build up and when to use it"
The interactive aspect of me deciding when to switch to my energy builder power or whether to let it ride is addictive.
However, I think they have Craps and Blackjack in Casinos for a reason. Some people just want to roll the dice and let fate decide, while others like a little more control in their game. Me, I am a black jack player.
The way they handle power management is a positive thing to me.
The only way it could be better is if they take a lesson from (World of Warcraft). Yes, I said it. That evil word. One of the beauties of WOW to me, was that different classes play differently. You use up Mana for spell casters the way you do Endurance in COH. You build up Rage as a Warrior which you can expend (Similar but not exactly same to CO), you choose when to get combo points as a rogue and then your finishing blow is more critical.
I would love to see based on the power set, a few different ways to manage energy.
I would also love to see travel powers take a more active role in combat. Right now, some of them give you defensive buffs, but I suppose acrobatics during combat may actually just 'look cool' and not really do a lot, I could still see how taking it opens a new chain of powers that you could take based on acrobatics! (Etc).
My biggest complaint with CO besides the cash shop, is their isn't a single reason to take a melee end builder, unless you just feel it having a laser gun on your swordsman doesn't fit your character.

In CoX you can set any attack to be an autoattack (or any power, not just attacks) by CTRL-RCLICK on power icon - that puts a green circle around the power icon, so you know it's on auto.
