Damn, the old time.DAoC

I just looked about stats of player on camelorherald and watched the server"Merlin" i was playing and i was shocked that all the old school guilds are dead "Angry Elves, Colonial Marine, Nameless, QQ, Blades of Hibernia". I remember Finbar, the BG leader of Hibernia in RvR, leading us throught the fight with his RvR experience. I remember the time when Hibernia were pwning everthing. I played two years and stopped couple months after WoW killed that game with the "eazy MMO market". Damn it, I'm feeling bad right now

ToA sparked a mass exodus, and after that the game just slowly died, clusters just bought some more time.

I don't know man....  I remember Fryers putting the hurt on us!!   (such a great class)

  • FkinglinuxFkinglinux Member Posts: 156

Having played all three realms, they all had their ups and downs. Albs generally had the best classes, Hibs had the baseline stuns, and Mid had the flexible weapon specs and 2h rogue types. Although some classes on certain realms did get alot of hate, when Warlocks could 2 shot with chambered spells, and the only way to kill one was to attack with 2 players, first gets insta gibbed and 2nd kills him while hes reloading his chambers. Animists pre-nerf made taking keeps from hib all but impossible. And bonedancers, well, everyone just hated them :P

Albs had too many classes when you could get 2 classes in 1 with Mid.    Daoc was a ton of fun in the day.  Man I totally was apart of the Mass exudus with trials of alantis.   Grinding artificats was not something I was looking foward to.

DAoC is still alive and kicking. And for those using TOA as an excuse, you can now buy MLs and level artifacts oh so quickly. DAoC's RvR so much more involving and interesting than WoW's pvp it's sad that more people don't play...

They can adjust a game all day, but they can't help the issue between the keyboard and the chair.
Played: UO, DAoC, AC, WoW, EVE, TR, WAR, Aion, Rift, SWTOR, GW2, TSW, ESO, Elite:D

Yep yep. Subbed atm and having fun. The server merger is about done so basically should have 3k plus most of the day which is plenty of people to fight :)

I agree to a point, classic cluster is all but dead though(last I checked) and alot of people don't find >1 minute CC to be fun. Fact is, yes DAoC pvp is great, but its also very elitist, unless you zerg.

Ahhh...the good old days when being a part of a guild meant something more than just having a chatroom in a game.  Where players came together for a common cause, got fired up, and charged to their victory (or death).  I miss my Highlander Armsman with the halby and platemail, visiting the Lady of the Lake, and watching the Mages cast fireball at enemies.

Don't you have golf carts to ride on, and putters to swing?

Also... DIE ALBION SCUM! DIE.  Of the 3 realms I found Albion for some reason contained the most asshats.  Midgard was my choice of realm.  I found its people to be the most friendly and of like mind as my own.  I also remember being in a few guilds over the course of my time in that game and being in a guild actually meant something.  People were actually friends, did things together... you know... gave a damn.

The game itself also had a sort of "brotherhood" about it.  When your realm was under attack, you stopped what you were doing and went out and defended because you knew if enough keeps dropped Darkness Falls wouldn't be yours anymore, or if your relic was lost your overall damage output would take a hit.  Besides, you couldn't let pompous Albion bastards trounce around in your land now could you?  People did things for the sake of everybody and not just the self.  It was never an "e-sport" as most games are turning out to be now.

Granted that they are clustering the servers even further now but I just don't have a really good incentive to come play anymore.  Yes you can get ToA stuff a lot easier now but those items if you ask me removed the purity of the combat in that game.  It made it somewhat ridiculous especially when people ran around looking undead, or morphing into wolves.  I always preferred your traditional sword and board, spells and arrows.  I think I will just live on my good memories of all the things I got to do in that game and the good people I've met, whom incidentally I still talk to after all these years.  No other game since then has given me that.  Most of the people I've met after DAoC have not really given me a reason to keep in touch with them after I stop playing mostly because I could never make that connection.

No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-

Hey OP who were you on Merlin? I was an officer in Nameless and a long-time member of the guild previous to Nameless (think Warprincess ran it).

My name was Sljivarion or Centeotl, freaking loved that game!!  ToA definitely ruined it but apparently Kaphen still plays from Nameless and a few others here and there.  I really miss Nameless and QQ :(

My last two or three years of playing I stuck in Thid and Molvik. I miss that game like an old friend. Wasn't my first MMO but definitely my favorite. And you guys are right, that game gave people a reason to care about something bigger than themselves. Every time I logged in, no matter what I was doing, I waited for the call to arms. Rushing into NF on whatever 50 I had that was needed and win or lose I always had fun. All the way up until populations dwindled so that my favorite things, bg v bg v bg and keep taking/defense become all about 8v8. I always hated 8v8 because it was consistantly whoever landed AOE mez/stun first won and it eventually got boring.

It still cracks me up that after all the crying about TOA the classic servers are dead. After all the crybabies convinced Mythic to further divide the already dwindling population base, they are now completely gone. WOW is what people want in a game, as their sub numbers would suggest, and it is exactly what TOA was. Large scale time consuming raids with only one point, to get the best gear and abilities. Did it stink buying a new expansion to find out that my level 50 was essentially a level 1 that had to be re-leveled to the top in order to compete? Yea, but that's what games do. They expand end game content every so often and you either play the game or quit. The only part that really bothers me is Mythic consistantly caves to the vocal minority and it kills everything they touch. If the people that initally went to the classic servers had just spent the time from 1-50 on their new toons instead completing TOA goals, they would be just as powerful as everyone else and the population base would not have been decimated as quickly.
