Hmmm.... if WOW was that bad why millions still playing it? For myself, I don't care anything about the history, most of the games out there cost me 10-15/month. I just choose the one that worth my money, that's it.

In theory wow is the "best", technicly is also the best, used to be even better before expansions...but now even beying the best i log on and after 30 min playing im burned...so that means for me its not the best...its the best in a theoric and thechnic point of view.
It is not the game's fault that you are burned after playing it too long and too much.

You can always try a burnout copy of the game of course and that's one of the reasons why those games gather empty servers after a 2 month launch.
As someone who's played MMOs since UO included many that aren't with us any more... WoW is the best. Always has been.
However, I can't stomach playing it in '09. But I'm not fool enough to think anything that has come along including the MMO I currently sub to matches WoW on all levels. The McDonalds and blue vs orange arguements are a little retarded, since we aren't comparing a $5 happy meal to a $100 steak dinner, we're comparing $15 vs $15 and everyone knows all MMOs are blue and WoW's blue is the deepest :P
But the graphics and early game are just something I can't get past today so I don't play it but for over a year just before and after TBC I loved my paly and rogue.

WoWs graphics are dated, the engine was weak when the game launched, but they hide it behind art "style". if you like how the style looks, then it doesn't matter that the engine can't push a decent polygon to save it's life. i can't stand WoWs art, haven't since i saw the beta, doesn't work for me. i prefer something more real like LOTRO, which i think has the most beautiful mmo world to explore. though i am loving Aions art, so far.
i loved EQ2 character models, on max settings, i'm pretty sure my warlock had more polygons then booty bay in WoW, though EQ2 world looks a little empty, in some places, and the fact the whole thing is zoned.
some WoW fanatics, are set on using sub numbers, as it's the only way they can claim superiority over others. see, WoW does nothing better, then sub numbers. everything in WoW, can be found better in another game, which is perfectly "fine". what WoW does well, is almost everything, thats something that almost no other mmo can say. it just doesn't do anything great, or hell, blizzard hasn't had a "new" idea, since..... starcraft??? maybe, pretty sure most of that was ripped from dune... anyways.

The Dune universe has many worlds, not just the desert one. It is a very fantasy sci-fi political oriented universe. It would probably be too difficult to get the theme right but man I would love to play in the universe.

I wasn't at all impressed with WoW when it first released. I came from EQ1 > FFXI > WoW and to be honest FFXI's graphics and EQs world and gameplay were vastly superior and occurred before WoW was thought of.

There are games that do some aspects better than WoW, but you are right, the high-fantasy genre does not have an equal or better in overall.
EVE is by far the best featured and probably only game that I would rate as a "real" MMO currently. However, it is different genre and does not have mass market appeal like WoW does, but it is by all means a better game.

It is actually only MMORPG that allows people to play in truly "massively" environment. And it is only MMORPG where you can really roleplay. It is the ultimate sandbox MMORPG experience where you can truly be anything from a lone trader to a leader of galaxy wide Empire.

WoW is by far the best MMO out there at the moment in my opinion. I've played it off and on since release. I've always gotten bored at some point, but I'd always come back, sometimes in less than a month. I've quit now in anticipation for Aion, but I'll be back to WoW I'm sure once Cataclysm is released if not sooner. I'm more excited for Cataclysm than any other game being released next year.
However, I do know that it's not everyone's cup of tea. WoW is the best out their financially, and in the eyes of the millions currently playing. It's not the best to those not playing from a game design stand point with quite a few reasons not to like it.

Since you put Dune in your post, I just wanted to say how cool it would be to have a well done Dune MMO.

Nope, for me EVE is the best ever since it came out. WOW is like... 2cnd worst I ever played.
