I just pre-ordered the game from the fallenearth website.
Does that mean if I download the client now, I can play in closed beta?
Well, since closed beta finished a week ago probably not but it quite clearly says on the FE website than anyone pre-ordering gets access to the Open Beta which is currently running and still has a couple of days to go.
Since it's open beta now, you don't even need to pre-order anyway. All users of Fileplanet can get a key and download the client.
Never mind, just go to Fileplanet.com and if you're not a registered user already, sign up for a free user account (You don't need the upgraded subscriber account for this open beta)and then go to the Fallen Earth beta section and pick up an open beta key there. No need to download the game files again if you already got them from FE direct. They're all the same and the beta client will update to the full version on launch day too.
When you get the beta key from Fileplanet, you're told what to do but basically its just a matter of creating an account at Fallenearth.com, registering your beta key and then linking your account to the forums where you will get access to the beta forums too.
If you get the beta up and running now, you've got over a week to get your full game key entered ready for the early start. It maybe a bit slow today being a Sunday when most of the office staff, who handle the account stuff are on their day off. If they say the FE pre-order entitles you to open beta access, I'm sure it does. but going the Fileplanet route for now should get you going in the meantime.
D2D gets a horse and it is download. If I pre-order and get the ATV am I going to get a box? That arrives in time to get in 'early'? I really prefer the old school box so would like to get a box but potentially pre-order.
Old Skool Ultima Online Junky Bring back the OLD UO so I can play again

Well, if you click the "BUY" links on the FE site and proceed as if you're going to purchase it and read all the screens you come to a screen that asks for your email address to which they can send a download link and product key. So, Doesn't look like there will be any disks as all of the other retailers the game is offered through are download capable sites.
You can always download the the client and then burn that download to a disk or put it on a flash drive. *shrug*

You could even refer to it as your Collector's edition Mourning disc.
