Fantasy is better and midevil fanasty is even better. Scifi I feel peop;e get enough of that in movies and FpS's and midevil fanasty is ground that really hasn't been fully explored.

Medieval Fantasy outmacth Sci Fi simply because it is based on ''facts'', a way to live in the past and the fantasy is a ''fact'' in our culture...Sci Fi is purely fiction, nobody know for real, it is based on imqagination and a possible future rather then on facts. Having strong clerics is a serious appeal to folks, as the Gods are active in the world, which is what many folks like no matter what they say, to see that high elf cleric summoning the help of a Goddess to raise the dead, not the same feeling with a tech using a few pills to make the guy awake back.

So, your saying Elven mages slaying Gnolls is more realsitic than Wookies killing Ewoks?
Medieval Fantasy for me, i love picking up a sword or staff, and bashing and casting my way through hoards of monsters, Sci fi...i dont really like, cause if you want sci fi just go watch star wars or space balls...gotta love space balls.
good point Xavon...when the world is mine your death shall be quick and painless.

An elven mage slaying gnolls is part of our ''culture'', medieval gospell, beliefs. A historian once say: ''It is pointless to actually prove if Joan was god inspired or not, what matter is if the peoples around her do believe she was or not''.
Wookies killing ewoks have to work on the imagination only, there is no fact supporting the situation.
None are more realists then the other, both use a lot of imagination, but the elven mage is based on facts from past gospell and beliefs. The Wookie and Ewoks(which I looove btw), have less starting appeal, it is unquestionnable. Of course in the case of the Wookies and Ewoks, I recognize stuff I know, so it is much better then a setting I would not know with new Sci Fi, this is also why elfs are more popular then a random races.

I know this isnt a choice, but i'd like to see a barbaric mmo. I dont know if there even is one yet. But it would be cool b/c its the dawn of time and theres a lot you could do with it and expand into later.

I wrote about 100 replies to this one post, but i canceled them because they were all too mean. To put it all in short elves are a myth wich is fiction.
Medieval/Fantasy style just gets so boring after a while. There's only a limited number of storylines you can do and technologies you can use.
On the other hand, sci fi (/ fantasy) is a much wider field, allowing the use of virtually anything you can imagine.
Plus there aren't nearly enough sci-fi MMORPGs about at the moment, particularly decent ones. I'm currently playing Neocron and I've played everything else I can find that's sci-fi but haven't found anything else better yet. I particularly enjoy rhe FPS combat style in Neocron as opposed to the target, click icons style that most MMORPGs seem to go for. In Neocron you actually have to have skill to follow the target if you want to snipe them - you can't jsut target them once then let the computer follow them for you.
There's a number of shortfalls in Neocron, the biggest of which is the storyline. The first major problem is that there's more than one server, and only a small dev team. This unfortunately means that while on Server A Factions A and B might be best of buddies, fighting side-by-side, on Server B, they may be the worst of enemies. This makes it extremely difficult to have a believable storyline in which the players can actually get involved.
KK have also made a mistake on the storyline. Recently the home of the Fallen Angels faction was overtaken by the City Administration and turned into a trader area. Unfortunately the developers in their infinite wisdom made the whole place a safe zone at the same time. This makes it virtually impossible for the Fallen Angels to forcibly take control of the area, which IMO is a bad thing. This area could be an excellent stage for an all out war with accompanying storyline, if only it wasn't a safe zone.
It's partly this that has brought me to realize that safe zones are a bad thing. If you want a PvP orientated MMORPG such as Neocron to really take off, there shouldn't be any safe zones. There should certainly be places, such as apartments / homes that players can go where they are relatively safe when they want to be (holding meetings, etc), but otherwise, it should be the job of the factions to police the areas that they control.
There's also an, IMO, essential missing item missing from Neocron that would vastly increase the ability of players to create there own storylines. This is an item that the players can write text to, such as a book or 'data disc' type object. I can understand that these objects may take up relatively large amounts of space in the database, but this is a good trade-off for a far better game. Under the current system, if players want to set up any kind of player run quest, they have to find and organise enough players to perform the quest with a player at each location.
Anyway, I'm rambling again, so I'm going to shut up now

Fallout 2 showed me how a good game based on sci-fi can be great, so sci-fi all the way. Also kinda tired of fantasy-mmorpg:s.
midevil fantasy is da bestest!
Don't know why but I just can't get into Sci-fi games

A good medieval game is great. Reminds me of a good DnD session.
You gotta love teaming up with that fighter, mage, cleric and thief. Then heading out to slay the dragon 'oer yonder.
"You guys are bishies, you can't touch my biscuits"
dragons? queer elves? stupid little goblins?......................fantasy is gay
