My warrior was 25ish when the patch came out and I was so glad they made the mount changes. All making people walk does is, well, make people waste time walking....
I have been playing WoW on and off since launch. Restarted again last weekend because my primary gaming PC died, I need something with low system requirements to putter around in until I get it fixed. Just two general comments:
1, The community of WoW has always sucked balls. It may be a little worse now than it was in the first year, but honestly the public channels have always been a cesspool of stupidity, flaming, and narcacissm. WoW has always had the worst community of any MMO I've played by an order of magnitude, it has nothing to do with the game being "dumbed down" recently.
2. I bought my first epic mount for 1000 gold near launch. I also went through the long bitch of a quest chain to get my second one a 'lock, as well as helped several guildies get their pally epic mounts. I'm glad that I got to experience that, I'll mist those quest chains slightly. But honestly, for the most part, all I can say about the mount changes is "Thank god i won't ever have to go through that again." Really, did any one actually enjoy their alts being on foot until level 40? I sure as hell didn't.
I don't want to write this, and you don't want to read it. But now it's too late for both of us.
The main objection to reducing requirements for obtaining level, items, mounts etc seems to be I worked hard so you should have to too.
Anybody who has issues needs to step back and really look at why they are playing. If you had fun playjng the game to get your stuff how does it undo that fun if a new player can just click a button and get it "easy mode". What someone else has does not delete the experience you had from your brain. They are the losers since they only have the memory of clicking a button.
Having more stuff than someone else in a game makes you a better person in real life?? lol
I played long ago at the start when servers crashed and idiots killed the quest givers for days on end. Sure is easy mode now days... haha.
twinks are part of any gear based game. if you dont like losing because someone has got better gear than you I suggest not playing wow because thats entirely what wow is all about: gear. maybe try one of the less popular but actually decent mmo's for pvp.
Twinks are simply a fact of life in WoW. If one wants to be competitive, one does what is necessary(shrug). By this time most of us have one or more level 80 mains, that we could use to fund the development of alts. Daily quests are a gold mine. They are one of the better ideas that Blizzard has come up with. They not only kick the gold sellers where it hurts(the wallet), but they remove much of the incentive to purchase gold(and risk a perma ban). Mounts can be a sore point... Especially for those who went through the quest chain to unlock the paladin charger(one of my 80's is a pally). But I can see why they keep lowering the bar(it makes it easier for new players/alts to eventually catch up). As for the Dev's favorite nerf bat target, the Death Knight, don't even get me started... One of my 80's is an Unholy spec DK. I'm LONG past sick and tired of nerf, after nerf, patch after patch. Bait and switch come to mind in terms of that. Blizzard *had* to know about much of this from the beta for Wrath. Yet they let it go live anyway. Then they spent month after month, after month nerfing the hell out of DK. That constant stream of nerfs is one of the reasons I'm on vacation from WoW at the moment. Any way, good article.
I have to disagree with you about dailies. the price of items is way higher than before since money is easy to get.
Farming stuff is always gonna be boring. Playing the game ( probably by making some under-used aspect of the game, world pvp for example ). No dailies no money though, and I already do enough homeworks a day. Regarding gold sellers, if WoW opened a shop to undercut gold farmers whenever these would show, it would be a matter of days before they'd disappear.

The easier they make the game for people like you the more it annoys people like me. You're just as entitled to play as me, but surely you can not seriously and reasonable believe you have the right to the same gear as someone who puts in ten times the amount of hours you do? That just can not be justified.
It shouldn't just be the time that matters but skills also. Anyone can spend a lot of time. Good gear should take a lot of effort to get, if you are a better player it should go faster.
But making it easier to get them is really the wrong way. Less grinding but harder difficulty is the right way.
I have played WoW on and off for years, more on. Some changes here and there I imagine I was not fond of but I can not remember one of them anymore. I assume it did not bother me as much as I might have thought.
As for the recent changes:
I had always disliked the "Twink" idea because it was a pain in lower level BGs. The only place you could get away from it was whatever the level cap was at the time since you can finally catch up on gear. Now over the past year or two I have had the occasion to talk to quite a few Twinks and they claim it isn't because they like to beat up on lesser players. I guess we'll find out who believes in that or not since that is pretty much all they will face now is other twinks, if they can find enough to fill up their BGs.
Mounts = Great. I am an altaholic and dread the lower levels sometimes. Sure it sucks I paid thousands of gold for higher level characters, but am now glad that will never happen again.
Over all Blizzard has been doing quite well IMO. I keep trying other MMOs and have not yet got one to stick. None of the others have had as good of game play to me. I PvP alot and that is important. I have played most of them out there but have not found anything that out does it for what I like.
Asheron's Call, Planetside and WoW are the only MMOs that have gotten years of subscriptions out of me. City of Heroes get a few months out of me every now and again. Other than that I haven't spent more and a few months on any other MMO. One thing or another is not up to par.
I constantly look for my next Asheron's Call. I love the general game setup there especially the loot, which is the closest to Diablo loot an MMO has come. I like random drops, large landscape and things of interest in the middle of nowhere. I also like public dungeons that respawn fast enough for 10+ people to be in danger if they are not careful. I like long range fightiing and large aggro range. I love fighting lots of mobs at once, gives you a powerful feeling. I love fighting so many that you can be caught in a room and have to fight your way out or die. Ok am getting off topic here....
All in all WoW has been the best MMO for me for the past 4+ years.

Twinks are NOT a fact of life. They became apart of WoW because of bullied tweens & single dorks living in their parent's basement with anger issues just looking for a way to harass other players trying to play the game as intended. Using a twink is NOT playing the game as it was intended and this update PROVES it. I think it's hilarious and glad that twinks are becoming a thing of the past because they have no place in mmo's or any game for that matter.
And btw, better gear does not equal better skill. It only means you spent more time grinding for the gear or the gold for the gear. You want to show real skill, you try it without your "uber" gear that was was probably bought illegaly anyway from a gold seller with mommy & daddy's credit card.
MMO's will and have always evolved. There will always be new changes in things like the mounts becoming cheaper. Oh well, either get over it or leave the game if you want to make a real statement. Otherwise you just get added to ignore for all the QQ'ing about how much time you wasted grinding for a digital, non-physical product when you could of done something more constructive.

Hi! All "Twinks" with locked EXP are in their own battlegrounds where only other PVP Twinks are. This means there are almost no pvp twinks left in the normal battlegrounds where you gain experience now and I like this very much! It's finally possible to do some pvp between some quests and have a chance to survive a minute or kill an enemy.

Yes, as a matter of fact they HAVE been a fact of life in WoW for years. Simply because they may be doing something to appease the anti twink crowd *now* doesn't change the past. If Blizzard didn't want twinks in PvP they would have set things up so that everyone has the same basic gear(You do know that a part of the PvP in the game is set up that way?). Its basic human nature. If one can get an advantage(and one is willing to invest the time/effort required) then one will. WoW is a GEAR based hamster wheel race. Always has been, likely always will be.
You make several unwarrented assumptions in your above. Better gear doesn't equal skil(you are correct) but better gear gives you more leeway in terms of outcome. Otherwise you wouldn't object to twinks...
The other assumption is no doubt the product of projection... Some of us have families and lives outside of the game, and have long since given up on the hamster wheel chase for the Phatest of Phat L00t... Your last paragraph is richly ironic in terms of that which proceeds it.
The biggest problem with Warcraft is that it has become too little challenge for a lot of players . I cant see Blizzard reversing this trend towards easier gameplay and without such changes even The Cataclysm will fail successfully revamp the game . What i think would bring people back is advanced mode servers where Blizzard revert the game to something resembling the difficulty mode of 2-3 years ago . Untill they do theres one simple solution for unhappy wowplayers that want a game that offers them more of a challenge .Play AION instead .
If you really can stop gaining EXP then twinks can just go through one more step and continue to twink all they want. It doesn't really fix it, but hey, some people like twinking so much that it is their reason to play.. those people are jerks, of course, but that's fine (come on, there are few reasons to twink other than for a power trip).
This has probably already been brought up by other posters but I just read the article, guilty...
Objectivity is delivered with a lack of personality made for the mainstream but never used for the mainstream.
I am so glad Blizzard tweaked the mounts and allowed for easier access. So are a lot of my friends. We dreaded having to grind to get the mounts for our alts and now it is so much better. Seriously, this is one of the best things Blizzard has done. As for twinks. Meh...no biggy. I love BG's though and spend probably half my game time just running WG,Altrec and Warsong. I especially love Warsong for players 20-29. I actually am leveling a second Priest just to keep her at level so I can enjoy Warsong at it best between these levels. When I was leveling my one Priestess I wasn't going to even attempt Warsong because I thought it was going to be really hard to compete. Then by chance a friend told me to run with him through one and he would take his hunter. Now I am hooked. I love playing a priest and running with a hunter, because we kick major arse and it doesn't matter what level the other player is and if they are twinked or not. So eventually she hit 30 and I thought I would miss Warsong 20-29 to much so I rolled another priestess and plan on shutting off the exp for her when she hits 29 this time round since the option is in place to do that now.
BTW look at this score for honor. I got this on my level 23 priestess recently. Not bad for a non-twinked toon.
With all the money Blizzard is making, instead of actually adding new content on a regular basis they are encouraging players to reroll alts or playing battlegrounds. The latest changes are not necessarily bad but I would have hoped for more.
Unfortunately WOW has become a rather repetitive and tedious playground (in my view) instead of a thrilling everchanging adventure experience. Hopefully Cataclysm next year will fill the gap.

With the addition of the hard modes for the various instances, I suspect Blizzard has gone about as far in the challenging direction as they are going to. As for Aion, I've really no interest in PvP centric games. Its all too often an open invitation to ganking and griefing.
Dont get why people whine on the changes Blizzard does, its not only to help the new people and so on, people tend to forget that even if you have some lvl 80 chars you still prolly have alot of alts, not like these changes dosent help the "veterans" aswell if not even more.
I here alot of whine on how easy it is to get the gear from badges that are like ilvl 226+ and how this is making the game to easy for the new players, but im in a fairly big guild doing hardmodes etc and sometimes we have people rerolling other classes to help the guild and so on, and i can tell you that without the badge system that alot of people call wellfare epics etc I think alot of guilds would be in really bad shape when doing the harder stuff in raids.
Playing: CO, C&C and WoW. Played: Tabula Rasa, AoC, War, Aion. Regret Playing: Hellgate: London, EVE.

I think Blizzard has been pretty clear about this. If you want a challenge in the PvE game, do hard mode raid encounters. I am sure some of the Ulduar and ToC hard modes would prove challenging for you, whichever class role you choose to play.

Yes but one can only do hard mode for so long before being burnt on it.

If you put in the hours for weeks and weeks, why would you think you think that Joe Schmo doing his 1hr tonight and 3 hrs at weekend should have the same gear? you must be on planet moo moo or something.
I try not to bash articles on this site but this one just doesn't make sense.
Why is somone who has only been playing 4 months doing this article. It sounds like you have absolutely no idea what a "big" change is. I mean anyone who remembers battlegrounds pre arenas would know that this new exp and arena point system is jsut like the old system. Of course now your going to have XP ninjas and point ninjas. I just left WoW and the only big changes I saw didn't fix anything I disliked about the game when I left.
Don't get me wrong. I liked WoW for many years. however after countless dissapointments and the constent nerfing of content after I just spents months trying to complete it hard mode I was done.

Doesn't that apply to pretty much anything?
